Is there a way to check areas you HAVEN'T been to?
I'm a bit confused by the Tyrian cartographer title.
My main toon is at 80% and yet I have every zone visited, and every mission and bonus done. How can I tell what I'm missing?

I believe that you might have visited everyzon and every mission, you might not have actually explorered fully in everyzone.
For example, if you zone into "The falls" and then just zone back, it doesn't count much towards your tyrian explorer title. You'd have to zone into "The falls" then explorer every little bits and pieces in that area. (A very beautiful area if you want to check it out) And only then will you get that area fully explorered.
It would be helpful if we had an option to see if an area is fully explored or not, instead of just wandering around in it randomly trying to find bits and pieces we haven't explorered yet.

Fog of war on the main map.
Each bit you uncover counts towards total exploration. Completely revealing a zone is usually around 0.5-1%

If that's true, then you can never have 100% since not all "fogged" areas are accessible.
I'm on the same boat as the OP, i have every single area visited *and* fully explored, [even Ice Dome.. *shivvers*] but my count is only 80.2%.
*slaps a.net around a bit with a large trout*
EDIT; do underground areans count? [uw/fow/sof/topk/catacombs] if they do count then i suppose it's the reason why only 80%.. but then again with those areas you can never know what you explored and what not :s

82.2% here. Still need to complete the shiverpeaks (part of N, lornar's pass and beyond), some jungle, a bit of S desert.
While filling in the area around droks, ettin's back, around war camp, I could see the counter go up for almost every small patch I revealed, from 78% after first login.
Underground areas do not count IMHO, since they don't apear on the map. And only accesible areas count, not the inaccesible parts of map.

Think Pre-Searing counts towards that title? If so, older characters will *never* get this title.

I'm not sure about pre-searing but I'm about to research it.
Also, don't forgot towns and outposts count as well.
..and lastly, I'm not sure about unmappable areas.

I’m at 95.2% and I agree with Antheus.
Just to add to what Antheus said though, it’s the fog of war on the map for all explorable areas.
Meaning areas where there are no zones, which is a lot of Tyria, doesn’t count towards the 100%.
And although it is possible that I did explore all of pre-searing with my main mapping character (it’s been so long I don’t remember), I don’t think it affects the 100%.
Hopefully this advice helps for those trying to increase their exploration percent, but most people tend to miss the areas around the bonuses for missions. Even some of the maps by MOOMANiBE have patches that haven’t been uncovered. Some of these cases happen because once a person gets the bonus, they feel they’ve finished.
Dunes of Despair is a good example of this. There is a big patch missing in MOOMANiBE’s map around the bonus area.
Luckily for me I know what patches I need to uncover to get the last 4.8% since I have them uncovered on another character, and yah, two patches are in a couple mission bonus areas. I just need some free time to play
Although it might be a bit tedious, the best way I know of to see what you’re missing is by comparing your map with online maps.

Just tested and no, pre-searing does not count towards it.
I explored a little bit of pre, no title.
I pop into post, and immediately get the title and start getting percentages.

91.5% atm
What im wondering is if the arena's also give you percentage. In that case im screwed cause i've never entered the ascalon and shiverpeak arena's. Now i'm unable to fight in there cause I'm lvl 20 of course.

You can enter the 'waiting area' as a L20, just talk to the gate guard at each arena. The actual arenas are used in Competition Arenas games, that's how I got them - might be funny to see your team mates' reaction as you jog around the outline of each arena though

Towns must be explored too. I notched up quite a percent fractions, just by completely revealing all the towns.
"Pre-searing" in Cantha does count towards total exploration. Not sure how this will be compensated (if at all) for Prophecies characters. When I bring them to Cantha, they start at 0. On a newly created character, just the first town gives you 1-2%.

Take a look at this thread. Somewhere in it are some caps of near complete maps. Save those to your HDD, take a screenshot of your own map (preferably in the same resolution) and use a image viewer (like Irfan View) to toggle between those two images. You'll see exactly what you're missing. Mostly it's probably some small stripes at the borders of explorable areas, where you didn't hug the wall properly.

That hugging the wall thing is gonna get incredibly annoying. When i'm at 98%+ and the only bits left are these tiny areas scattered around Lornars or Iron Mines and generally places you can't simply run to.

Pre-searing doesn't count, I'm pretty sure of that. I just created a new char there and it doesn't show any progression on the Cartography title yet. Haven't tried yet whether the progression starts at 0.1 as soon as I leave pre, though.
Edit:
Confirmed now: The progression bar starts at 0.1% as soon as you walk two steps in post-searing.
