Ranger/x Solo Totem Axe farmer [video (more to come)]
*This is a rough draft of my final guide. I will be adding more videos when I find teh time. I'd love your feed back.
I have been farming Totems with my ranger for a little while now, so I decided to write a little guide on how I do it.
Reasons to farm Totems~
1. Doesn't require favor of teh gods
2. Totems sell for about as much as a shard (5-8k..or so)
3. Its better (more fun) than 55'ing
4. Multiple chances to win!!(see later)
I first must say that I adopted my build from remmeh's R/Me forest farmer ranger.
The ranger~
Here are the stats I use,
16 Marksmanship (this is high in order to more easily kill life pods)
8 Expertice
12 Wildernes Survival
The skill bar is as follows...
Savage Shot
Poison Arrow (*)
Kindle Arrows (*)
Needle Shot
Dual Shot
Whirling Defence
Storm Chaser (*)
Troll Ungent (*)
Skills marked with (*) are necessary, the other ones can be changed out for similar skills.
equiptment~
I use a poisonous long bow of marksmanship and a stinger (same thing but composite bow), and an elswith's recurve bow (for those annoying life pods)
Full druids armor and a Marksmanship mask
Sup marks and major expertice minor wildnerss survival
The Run~
Start out in Ventari's Refuge you will then run straight South then West into Reed Bog.
After that you will need to take teh northern path to teh falls.
Running to teh falls is very easy.
Once in teh Falls you will need to run through a tricky part in teh beginning.
For first timers it can be tricky. I will attempt to explain how I do it as best as possible.
The first enimies that you come across are 2 redwood sheppards. They are no problem. What you really have to worry about are teh Maguma Spiders taht fall from the sky. As soon as you see tehm spawn hit storm chaser and don't stop running. Follow storm chaser w/ whirling deffence then anoteh storm chaser. You should almost be in the clear when teh 2nd stormchaser wears off. Just keep running, soon the spiders will stop spawning. If you have trouble, you may need to stop to use troll ungent once. If you are having the worst time ever, bringing a condit remover might be helpful (antidote sig, mend ailment)
Here is the video of running to the falls. Tell me how it is.
http://files.filefront.com/Running_t.../fileinfo.html
This is a picture of first safe point in the falls.
Now all you have to worry about running through are trolls, wind riders, and jungle scales. Storm chaser and whirling defence will leave you un scathed.
The following pictures are to help you find your way to teh big loop with all of teh Root Behemoths
Here is a fork in teh road where you need to go left. And right after that there is a "hidden driveway" wher you need to take a left.
Here you need to take teh upper path to avoid unnecessary agro
This final img is where teh loop begins. It is easier to start left and end in teh water.
Once you arrive at a Root Behemouth they are very easy to kill...assuming you correctly used your long bow and haven't agro'd teh life pods or have already taken care of them. All taht you need to do is shoot it first with a poison arrow. Then wait about 12 seconds (wait for deflect arrow to end) and re-poison and tehn fire away. Easy as pie.
You should find arround 10 behemoths per run. Each one my drop an axe.
Problems/Nusiances~
Enimies-
Jungle Scales- I recomend killing them first if they are in teh way of a Root, they are very easy to dispatch with. Just keep up troll and spread poison and fire...Woohoo
Wind Riders- Ow...do not try to kill them unless tehy are in groups of 4 or 5...tehy will cry of frustration your troll ungent and you will be mad. Before attacking one put up kindle arrows then use poison arrow. Spam you skils (not ungent) untill you get cry'd 4/5 times so you know it is recharging for all of them...tehn use troll ungent. You will need to run after killig 1 or 2 most likely. Just go back and do it again.
Life pods- Grr...My least favorite. AVOID AGRO AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. There will always be 2 or 3 life pods guarding the behemoths. That is why you need a long bow. The life pods will not spawn if you stay far enough from teh Roots. I have teh hardest time killing groups of 2 and grps of 3 are almost impossible (provided they are all healers, some of tehm are smiters which are easier to kill) Anyways...if you agro them...which is inevitable...whip out teh elswith's bow or equivalent, and get as close to them as possible. Keep up kindle and just keep shooting. Use dual followed by savage shot for quick dmg. And, most important of all, pray. These guys are very anoying. GL
Most important~
Have Fun (lame...I know)
Here is a pic of teh full run from Ventari's

I just tried this, I needed a totem axe and always willing to try something new. 1 run took me approx 45 minutes and I gained 5 axes. Impressive build that deals with pretty much everything that the area will throw at you.
Nice work

Nice build, Sister Brianne.
I have soloed this with a few different Ranger builds. Yours is good for getting the job done rather quickly.
I have used:
R/W
Apply Poison
Cyclone Axe
Random Skill
Whirling Defense
Storm Chaser
Lightning Reflexes
Melandru's Resilience
and...
R/W
Apply Poison
Cyclone Axe
Feral Lunge
Run As One
Comfort Animal
Charm Animal
Escape
Troll Unguent
...among others.
The Life Pods really aren't an issue since they can be lured out one at a time. But avoiding them altogther saves time. Although they are generally harmless, I have found that if they spawn when I click on Cyclone Axe things can go downhill in a hurry.
Good job for using a quick build for this run.
P.S. You've been using too much leetspeak. Overall your writing is clear and understandable. Look at all the "teh this and teh taht" in your post. It's certainly not accidental and is the only flaw in the presentation.
Keep up the good work.

Ha...Thanks alot for the help. My useage of "teh" and so on started because I type too fast, but they have now become a very bad habit.
And in resopnse to your builds...
Yes my builds do get the job done quickly, however, I find myself skipping Roots because I can't get rid of the life pods in the way. Your builds look like they will easily finish off those pesky fools.

Just keeps getting better for me, taking out the life pods with no problems. Just done my best run yet with 7 axes and a gold 15>50 bow.

Can you post your stats? Or anyone that goes well with this. I already have 15 Marks, and wanna make sure that I get everything right before I attempt this.
Didn't read all of it, sorry. -_-;
Anyway, gonna try this out all week, trial and error and such. I'll post my results when I get 'em.

Yeah, I was too excited to.
Anyway, I have gotten about 5 axes in two days, pretty damned good. I'm sitting in the falls as we speak, wondering how the hell to get past the wind riders.
EVERYtime I try, I die. They either conjure, or just swarm me and I can't. Is there a path to avoid them, and I'm just missing something, or do you just need to go balls to the wall and run?
Great guide, too. There are always a few iffy parts in the run, like with the scales and what not, and pulling the life-pods can get annoying some times.
And, instead of using Whirling Defence, I prefer the elite skill Melundra's Resiliance. A great substitute for running.
Also, I would buy at least 2 keys. I get at least 4 chests a run, and I got a perfect enchanting axe handle.

With the wind riders if there are no root behemoths around that you'd miss if you'd run past them put up troll ungent and run like hell, only time any will truly try and follow you is the wind rider boss, using storm chaser should eventually get you clear. If you need to fight them, use kindle arrows, hit one with a nice poison arrow and blast away, spam any skills you can (poison arrow) to get rid of their interrupts quickly and stick troll ungent back on, one two are down run away and regen, rinse repeat.
As for Life pods I had a bit of a brain fart today and managed to get three behemoths worth of pods pop up on me. By standing there blasting away for a while it seems to make them use up all energy. (excuse the images, I'm crap at anything to do with piccies)

Nice. I had a behemoth spawn on top of another one. I use Urgent and M.R. to get through the Wind Riders. Just got through them last run.
I've got a total of 7 axes. About 30k or so. Got a new perty dye.

Thats exactly how i get past em and kill 'em. I like to target teh ele boss as i run through and if he tries to snare me, i give him a taste of my savage shot.

When you come upon a group of scales by a Root, they are prety easy to take care of. Even if there are 10 or so, you shouldn't have a problem. Troll + Your arrows = death to scales.
The M.R. replacement looks smart.

oh Eoe, great idea, sadly I didn't take it. The skill bar is the same as Sister Brianne posted. It just took a really long time to kill em all.

I would. It's a really good way of getting money. The only thing you need to do is work on timing.
Don't have Storm Chaser up just hwen you're running away from one or two enemies. I've had 10-15 enemies pop up, and lost about 7 before S.C. Was recharged. Good luck, though.
And, to do a video I beleive you can use Fraps. I don't know much about it, but from what I've heard it's pretty good.
Edit: http://www.fraps.com/ Fraps.
