Can my Tryian born characters go to the Cantha Island where the Canthan chracters started? If so how?

Yes, there is a quest in the docks adjacent (exit marketplace) i do believe.

You can go to the Island, you just cannot do the quests on the Island. You can however do the 2 Missions on the Island for your Protector of Cantha title.

Talk to the guy in the Kaineng Docks (out of Marketplace, the place where you arrive when you take the quest that takes you to mainland in Seitung Harbour). Despite what he says just tell him that you want to go to the island and he will take you there.

but can u explore that small starting area? i can't seem to get in there, monastery grounds or whatever it's called. there seems to be a good chunk there, i guess around 0.5%...

You could explore it on the Dragon Festival event but not anymore. Sadly. But even for a Tyrian character, you don't need to explore it to get Grandmaster title.

yah if you look at the map you can actually get something like 103% of cantha so i guess the programmers wanted to be kind of lenient lol.
