Quests vs. Missions
So I cracked open the manual..looked for it on guildwiki and I am still having a critical malfuntion: 2 possible ones actually.
1. I have one quest left...The Dukes Daughter
2. I have only been to old ascalon, the northern wall, pikes square, sardelac (sp) sanitarium (which is really where I belong these days), fort ranik and another place...kind of north of pikes square.
According to everything I found to read on missions I have not done a mission yet, when I look at posted lists I do not recognize any of the names...are these for higher level characters? (I have a lvl 10 n/mo) And am I out of quests because I just haven't explored enough?
Do I need to talk to npc's without the green ! to get missions?
I'm guessing it's an exploration issue on my part but now I'm curious.

After completing "The Great Northern Wall" mission you should have been teleported to "Fort Ranik", which should also show up on your world map.
After completing "Fort Ranik" mission you will teleported to "Frontier Gate", from there you will go NW to "Ruins of Surmia" and then to the next mission area.
Normally after completing a mission the game will teleport you to the next required town/mission area. All mission areas in Tyria will have a shield above the name. How do you know when you have reached a mission area without continually looking at the map? At the bottom of your "Party Formation" window you will see a "Enter Mission" button if you are the leader of the party.

When you enter a mission outpost your Party Dialog will include an "Enter Mission" button. Form a team and click the button and you are transferred to the start point of the mission. Only the team leader gets the button.
The primary quest(s) will lead you to the next mission and you get one in Ascalon that leads you to the Great Northern Wall which is the first mission. When you beat it you are taken to Ft Ranik, which is the 2nd mission. Keep following the string of missions or primary quests to advance the story along.

I think I know where I messed up...when I got the mission where I was to go to the northern wall I went...talked to the guy who gave me 500xp...then left for the night. Do I need to talk to him over again then find a group to complete it?
Thanks

No, you dont need to talk to the guy again.
You can make a team, be it other humans or henchies (the green guys named Alesia, Reyna, Stefan and Orion) for the mission. To do the mission you need to click on the "Enter mission" button in your party screen. You will now start the mission in a new area.
For more information about the difference between missions and quests. Quests are given by npc's. To do these you (usually) leave the outpost (for example Ascalon city or Sardelac sanitarium). You follow the instructions in your quest log screen (by default under the "L" button) and when finished you go to the one who gives you the reward for the quest. A mission takes place in an area where you cannot leave to an outpost. You have to follow the directions of the mission, and once you finish it you will be transported to another outpost (this is not always a new mission). If you and your party die during the mission the mission is failed and you will be back at the starting point and have to retry (hitting the "enter mission" button again).
I got the impression you are kinda new to the game so I explained it a bit more . If I got the wrong impression you can ignore the post, if not and you have more questions, just post 'em. There are legions of helpfulll people around on this forum. Good luck and have fun (cheesy, I know ).

I figured it out once I got home...after being up all night I had completely missed the 'enter mission' button and left for sleep...when I went back today I saw it right away...I had just been doing quests before.
I've only had the game 2 weeks...so yeah...I'm still a little clueless, but I am enjoying myself so that's all that matters
Thanks for all the help though.

Also be sure to look for shields on your M map. Shields are missions. If you have two swords through it, you have done the mission and bonus. If you have no swords, you need to do it.
Once you finish ranik, you will be taken to the Frontier Gate. Talk to the NPC there and and he will give you the quest that will lead you to the Ruins of Surmia mission.
Also, be sure to check back in Ascalon city often for new quests from Tydus, Arne and Simon the scribe. Arne has at least 3 quests and Tydus has 4 I think which become available after doing missions that leave no indication that you should go back and talk to them.
