Default Nightfall story alot like Lord of the Rings?

I was just wondering if anyone else noticed all the Lord of the Rings similarities that are in Nightfall. I'll try not to spoil the story for anyone who hasnt beaten the game yet, but, the desolation is very comparable to Mordor. Varesh and Saruman are similar characters (once good, corrupted by evil). Along with others...so, anyone else notice these or other larger ones that I missed?

SPOILER

I especially liked the part where I had to throw the preserved red iris flower into the volcano to destroy Abbadon.

LOTR pretty much created the formula for creating a plot.

I'm sure I could party with Saruman. Abaddon doesn't like dancing.

I dont see the harry potter, star wars, indiana jones references but I do agree about some of the rangers looking like legolas. Also, throw the iris flower in the volcano to destroy abaddon? i watched the end game movie and didnt see that part.

You need to pay more attention to the Margonite lore:

"One Magnoliophyta to bring them all
and in the darkness bind them."

It had to be destroyed, but it sure was tough to do. Especially with Gwen biting off your finger to get the iris! I never thought she'd be a boss!

/edit:
Rewrote my LOTR comment out as not to start a Flamewar.
In short:
No LOTR Resemblence in Nightfall. Elves, Orcs, wastelands, volcanos, dramatic storylines etc have been there before Nightfall and especially BEFORE LOTR! It wasn't invented by LOTR. Only new thing there is was Sindarin, but that is unfinished.
