There is no crafting. You buy stuff from weapon/armor crafters. Bring x materials and y gold, and you get the thing.

When using expert or superior salvage kit, you can salvage runes or insignias off armor, or mods off weapons, which can then be re-applied to other items. Each time you salvage an item, there's a chance of destroying the original item in the process.

To expand a bit:

The primary source of items for players in Guild wars are NPCs who will create weapons and armour for the player for a fee, however, the player must provide the raw materials needed to create the item (wood, iron, steel,...)

These materials can either be purchased from specialized traders, or they must be salvaged from existing items. To salvage materials from an item, you will need a salvage kit, bought from a merchant, and then use it on an item. The item is destroyed by the process, and some materials remain.

In case of magical items, you can also salvage not only the materials, but also the magical properties of the item (armor runes, weapon hilts and so on). For this, you will need an expert salvage kit (which can also recover materials, if you want to).

A few additional pointers you may find useful:
-all armour must be made special for the wearer. Do not trade for existing armour (except for collector armor).
-collector items are a cheap source of gear
-materials are either common or rare, rare materials costing much more
-certain items will only yield certain materials (metal items yield iron and so on)

what they said...

and please... in the case someone says they are selling armor pieces... don't believe them.... they are just frustrated 40yo dudes...

every piece of armor is customized to the crafter... that means only you can get armor for you and noone else...
