Ok I've been doing this mission for a day and a half now and just cant seem to get a group that can make it
Its got to that point now where I've turned the game off and refuse to turn it back on, sad I know.
How long did it take other people to do this mission?

try an sv or ss necro (i always go w/ sv), and outfit your heroes w/ wild blow to end shiro's annoying stances.
also, do the bonus. doing the bonus makes shiro easier.
fwiw, i have always failed that mission as part of a pug (unless i bring all of my own heroes). i've had much more success on this and every other mission w/ a full hero & hench party, or as a member in guild/friend group.
check out the other threads on the gate of madness for more detailed info.

Hmmm alot of those suggest to use an SV necro hero...Needless to say that didn't work for me just now.
I will never appreciate completing a mission quiet as much as I will do when I complete this one.

Shiro and the lich both have a spot outside that "dome" where they simple won't go..
if you place a tnk just in the entrance of the dome you should be able to keep all atacks on 1 ally, hope this helps a bit

Rather than worrying how to kill Shiro, figure out how to survive - that is the only problem.
Aegis, ward against melee, ward against foes, prot spirit, shield of absorbtion, guardian, blind and slowdown skills. These will keep you alive.
Then bring stuff that kills. Life stealing hexes work well, anything anti-melee works well. AoE doesn't do much in the final fight, so MS is basically a waste, so is SF or similar.

I got lucky on this mission. I tried it with henchs/heros first. I do this with most mission. If I beat it, wonderful, If not, I have a better understanding of what to expect the second time in a PUG.
I join up with a totally random PUG. No one seemed to want to do it, so the few people that were LFG joined up. I think we had like 4 dervish, 2 eles (one being me), and, by a fricking miracle, 2 monks.
We tried going into the dome to kill them and the owned us pretty bad so we retreated to the entrance. The Lich wouldn't stay there and kept wandering all the way back to the middle of the domed in area. Shiro stayed outside with us so we just kept at him and after what seemed a lifetime, we got him. Then we proceded inside to take down the Lich
We did not activate any of the shrines to help us at all, so no masters, but we didn't care. It was a great PUG and a lot of fun!

I've never tried that approach, but I read it works great. There was a thread foating around about a 2 man team to take down Shiro (I think it was 2 man, with 1 of those being an assassin. I'm guessing the other was a monk).

Bring a necro hero with Spoil Victor, Reckless Haste, and cover em up with Parasitic Bond. Also, bring a melee hero (preferrably a warrior or dervish as 'sins will have a hard time if they're in Shiro's face) that has Wild Blow, and remember to manually spam those. Basically all Warrior shutdown works, but remember that conditions such as Weakness and Blind are shed by Shiro very fast. Also, when getting the bonus remember to kill the Lich first, then cap the shrines without harming Shiro. Unless he uses Impossible Odds (which is only activated when he is at low health) he will not be doing much damage as you take out the Margonite shrine defenders. Note that snares such as those from the Water Magic line, wards and crippling. Hope that helps; I've done this twice before, on my Necro I used hero/hench but on my Derv we used these tactics in a PuG and we beat Shiro with 2 leavers (one of which was a monk) :P

I beat the mission with masters reward using hero/hench.
Use:
N/X hero with SV, Insidious Parasite and Life Siphon as a cover hex.
Mo/X hero with Aegis, Prot Spirit and Shield of Absorbtion.
W/X hero with Wild Blow.
Two healer, dervish and fire ele henchies.
Disable everything but SV, Insidious and Life Siphon on Necro and everything but Wild Blow on the Warrior before encountering Shiro. Flag the Warrior at the front gate to get Shiro to attack him and all other hero/hench flagged further back. Get the Necro to cast SV and Insidious whenever it recharges. The Monk hero should use Prot Spirit and Shield on the Warrior and cast Aegis whenever it recharges.

I was determined to take my Tyrian ranger through Nightfall with PUGs, and got stuck on this mission for five days running. Finally got in a good group, took masters the first time out, and we went on to take masters at Abaddon in one shot.
With my new Nightfall monk, got with a good group, and took masters on both missions in one shot.

To add, don't spend time looking for human monks. By the time you actually find 2 human monks you could probably have completed the mission.
Yes, there are some monks in there not in groups but in my view they are usually always afk and are only there because they're probably having a break from soloing Exuro Flatus who is just out of the door. Hench also don't leave the group half way through. Also, as much of a complete noob as Mhenlo was in Factions...do you ever see him saying "sorry, gtg have dinner now guys. bb in 10 minutes" just as you enter the mission? No. Hero/Hench monks ftw.

Most of the times I've done Gate Of Madness I've had always trusty Mhenlo and Khim as monks and they haven't failed me once.

Yeah my ranger had some magic mojo when I did this mission. At the time there was me and one other person in the mission district ad1. No one else had really made it to the end game missions yet so I went with hero/henches. Somehow shiro got killed really fast and I didnt have spoil victor or wild blow or anything like that really. Did it my first try and got masters really easily. Whats weird is ever since then with my other chars this mission is wildly more difficult with shiro just flat out pwning all my bots. As long as u got wild blow for shiro it seems to be ok, but I'm still wondering how my ranger cruised thru so easily. Maybe it was just the newness of it all and me just spamming distracting savage with barbed/poison arrow and catching key skills.
