I got Masters on GoM, with my main char (sword W), at my first attempt, using heroes and henchies. And I didn't bring any the Lightbringer skills.
Just follow the guide on guildwiki. A curses Necro helps a lot here. And yes, Wild Blow is your friend :-)

Oddly enough... The guide on wiki did nothing for me..
Actually beat this by luring Shiro up the stairs to the doorway area, flagging healer/nuker heroes out of sword range, and having the wammo kite him like mad in Benny Hill style circles until victory was ours via sporadic nuking and vigorous wanding. Oh well...

This is a MAJOR reason why people like the OP can't find a group. Anyone who doesn't have the recommended "this, this, or this" build/profession is screwed by whichever idiot decided to edit the article that day.
Gate of Madness is the most difficult mission in NF, but all it takes to beat it is at least 2 members who can drop stances (Wild Blow, Wild Strike, Wild Throw). Can't find people who are competent enough not to screw up? Heroes and henchmen can do this just fine.

All I did to win the last battle was kill the lich first, than my henches and heros kited around Shiro and we went and captured all the shrines. No Wild Blow was brought, but dayam it probably would've helped.

Pretty simple mish with a good team.
Got there.
Pulled shiro back.
Killed (Wild Blow helps)
Went capping shrines, told monk to avoid enchants due to Lich.
Killed Lich
Lots of nukers helps on this mission btw.
I ALWAYS run this team build:
1 Tank (WB)
1 SV Nec (Or Fast Casting Me/N)
1 Heal monk
1 Prot monk
3 SF Nukers
1 SH Warder
Pretty simple, watch the aggro though.

Actually you do need a tank on this mission, unlike most other missions. You need a tank who can keep up a 75% block/evade and have wild blow, mostly Assassins with Flashing Blades or Rangers with their numerous stances fit well. With all the miss hexes from a necro/mesmer and 75% block from the tank, Shiro will be doing damage worth half a rat's rear end.
With the new update warriors reducing duration & recharge of warrior stances, though, warriors don't have the energy to keep up block stances up permanently and still Wild Blow Shiro, so they aren't really that useful.
If you don't use tanks, Shiro will start wailing on squishies, and although its possible to do it that way its just not worth it.
Place the tank at the entrance to the temple. It is the outer limit of Shiro's aggro range, so he won't attack any of the squishies. Even if Riposting Shadows teleports him to a squishie he will maybe attack once and then start heading back towards the tank.

Well, ive never once done it with any form of tank, and never had a problem with it.
others posting here seem to have left it out also.
there are many ways of beating this mission, and the most effective happen to not involve the usual tank, healer, nuker setup you find people running so often.

I have never used PUGs for this and always henched/heroed for masters. Done it on two characters so far i.e. Warrior and Ranger.
I always use a curse necro hero with spoil victor etc and wild blow on my character or on hero warrior (spam it manually).
And I always kill Shiro first, I pull him all the way out of the temple and fight him at the entrance. Once he is dead, I run around capping the shrines while ignoring the lich. This is the tricky part as the lich is such a pushover that you might accidentally kill him before you cap the shrines......hence losing masters.

look at all the people saying pugs=noob and henh/hero everything. sure it's more true than it is false, but with the expansion of campaigns and spreading out of players, many missions force players to hero/hench. co-op play near dead? i have to say that i'm getting less interaction with players than i did with the good ole days (prophecies only ftw). now if i need to do something pve i usually hench/hero or go wtih guildies and hero. forming a group is more of a hassle now, outposts are less populated......a one player game it has become, and oh the interest is gone.....

Indirectly, ur just saying that PuG sucks. And i definetly agree.
Took my dervish and warrior through there, didn't counter issues with getting team, guess was my lucky day huh.
Gratz enchanted for making through!

I do enjoy missions like these. What missions? The ones which don't require warriors. I'm sorry to the OP you're having trouble with it...but throughout Factions my ele (*shrugs* - dunno why) had quite a hard time finding a PuG...at least up until Unwaking Waters. Everybody needed "Tanks" and frankly it was just annoying. It seemed to be a different story in Elona - Eles seem to be more in demand generally now. I apologise if I seem a little cold-hearted but a lot of my characters got knocked back a lot when I first started out in Factions because people wanted warriors.
Recently I decided to make a warrior and I'm still not *that* keen on them. One thing I would say is...to all those people saying "you don't need wild blow"..."can't you think of something more original" etc... Why? When the lightbulb was invented people didn't think "But I must find my own way to make one". Sure, wild throw etc.. may work as well but there's no point in going out of your way to find another way of removing Shiro's stance when one way is perfectly good enough.
I didn't mean this to be a "zomg haa haa I hate warriors" post...I'm just tyring to make the point that there are very few missions warriors are "less required" in...Mesmers, Sins, Rits have a much harder time getting into groups generally. And remember, there are always hench. That seemed to be my only option when I got my Dervish there...I'd just get into groups with 4 wammos and another dervish shouting "need 2 monks"...I just thought "screw this" and went in with hench. With careful planning you can easily hench that mission.

being a warrior at unwaking waters used to suck! No way to attack the dragon...
Of cause one mesmer is enough to take care of the dragon and you can send the warriors into the befallen monsters but its not like the average player knows that.
But i still found a random group and completed the mission. The trick is: START a group.
Everyone wants to join a 7/8 group and many players are too lazy to start and organize a new group. If you start a group you have better chance to do the mission with your "unwanted" class.
Only once i encoutered a monk who joined my group (as No. 7) and told me to kick the assassin (already in the group) because he doesn't want to heal him (such a stupid $/%)"§ ). Well i kicked him and completed the mission with hench healer.
PS: Tanks are useless if the rest of the group runs into the enemy too. Never expect a random group to stay out of the tanks aggro circle even if you tell them to do so

I always thought tanks were useful for that mish. where you kill lich, get the shrines then leave the tank in the doorway and circle around so shiro sticks to the tank while the rest pound from long range.
I did it easily enough with nec, rit and derv but my ranger kept failing with like a fraction of shiros health left before wipe out. So I adopted that tactic with devona as my doorway tank and with Morghan with wild throw (or whichever it is that removes stances) and managed it pretty easy after that

Hihi, this guy/girl has the right idea: Want it done WELL, do it yourself. Like in tombs, I was testing a new build there which wasnt very standard(Ritu with bow :P) so getting invited wasnt too easy. Just formed my own group, explained that I was actually quite experienced at tomb runs and that I wanted to try something fresh and all went well.
As for gates of madness, you only have to make sure theres wild blow and some anti-melee hex and your set. Bring 2 monks and you got 4 spots to put whatever you like in there (Even a mesmer YAY)
You certainly dont need a tank to do shiro in, just learn to start running when a bad guy comes for you, lure him to a minion, a pet or another player for all I care :P. A good group owning shiro does that while dancing in circles around him.

don't know about you guys... but i essentially degened him to death using a BA ranger. the group i went in with had essentially zero idea about doing the mission except for some general hints. none of us even knew what impossible odds did until that little bastard start using it. after everyone except me hit 60 DP, i just told them to run in a circle as i shot him. worked like a charm.
