I think it would be so much easier for everyone if the chests were automatically refilled on the 1st of every month. It saves people from having to check if they're refilled with different characters at random days.

i was unaware that the chests were reset more than once, i thought it only happened the one time soon after they were released.

I have made a habbit of running my chests on the 15th of every month. I have done this since Jan 15th and every time I find my chests have reset.

I THINK that the chests reset 1 month from the last time your char opened ANY chest. From previous posts in this thread this seems to include TRYING to open a chest and fining it not refilled.

For example: If you open all but 1 chest on the 15, then open the other on the 16th, all chests would refill on the 16th of the next month. If, on the 20th you try a chest and find it is empty, none of your chests would reset till the 20th of the next month.

Can anyone disprove or further test this theory?

I have no idea what the rule is. My monk only got 1 reset and has been unable to open them since January. I try one or two every couple of weeks. My ele has only been able open them once, however she didn't open them at all until after the January reset.

It sucks when you read about people opening them +3 times on multiple chars when I've only been able to open them 3 times total.

ANet, care to clear things up at all?

I was able to open three of the chests I tried, on my Dervish, haven't had a chance for the others.

It's free money and the golds are nice for outfitting Hero's or getting mods to buff other weapons I have. Even if a 15^50 mod is less than 5k, that's 5k less I have to spend on modding a weapon I may only use on occasion.

I hope you are wrong about that------since all of my characters have not finished nf they open new chests as they get to them....but I will wait it out with my mes who finished nf......and see if they reset in 3 weeks time (she tried last week).

My main character opened all of them on the same day, twice. I distinctly remember the second time. I did it on the day they were first reset, together with 2 guildies. We caught all 12 of them in one sitting. We thought it might've been a bug because they were reset after a rather big update, and we wanted to grab our riches before it was corrected. (Sue me.

)

Almost three months later, one of my guildies already opened them for a fourth time (not sure about the other guy) while I'm still waiting for a 3rd. (The fourth time landed him 12 purples and a lot less cash, so bleh why do I even care...)

Forget any theory that makes sense, please. Because it doesn't.

This is worth looking into. The reason being everything reset this month for me EXCEPT one chest in desolation. And I distinctly remember trying it early a week ago with a buddy for the heck of it. Knowing full well it would not have anything, but did it anyway. In any case that particular chest did not open this month. SO this sounds like a completely plausible condition.

If this turns out to be true, this is the ULTIMATE anti farm bot code in the game. Every time the bot tries it resets the clock another 30 days till its useable again... interesting...

Never did realize the chests got refilled except the time they announced it, but obviously they have. I'll try to do all for one char in one day and then wait 31 days unless someone else posts differently here. I'll take another char and do test once a week for testing purposes and see what happens there. Thanks for this post OP as I would have missed hitting the chests again all together.

I've posted this earlier in the thread, but I'll post it again.

Your theory holds for me, at least til the 3rd opening.

First opening, is on the way through the game. Then, for example, if I finish NF/open the Pain chest on the 12th of a month, I will wait not until the 12th of the following month, but the 19th. (Easier to keep track by using one date only, incidentally also the date of the first reset). Also, it means that I always wait 30 days or more between even trying to reopen the chests.

I did this in anticipation of one day being able to go through all 10 chars at around the same time every month, getting them all in sync with one another.

6 chars have opened 3 times. Every time I do it in roughly the same number of days, and in the same order of characters. 3 times and no more.

I still think it's account-based-random-arbitrary. You'd think we'd be able to come up with the rules, if there are any, together, based on everyone's experiences. But we cannot. I simply have not been able to open a 4th time with any character, and clearly there are people on the board who have.

My chars vary from continent of origin, amount of xp, number of deaths, age, and only one with any maxed titles. They all share the same rules. 3 times. "Not 4, and not 2, unless immediately followed by 3..." :P

My ranger opened the chests for the 4th time late last month and got 9 purples and 1 gem.

My rit has opened the chests for the 4th time but only up to the vabbi chests at the same time and got a mix of mainly golds and some purples. Then I was asked by friends to help finish the game and went to collect the chests in the latter regions for the first time only to find my drops were again all purple. My warning here is if you want good drops from the chests in the later regions then don`t farm the earlier chests. Goes with what Gaile said a while ago.

BTW if the chests mean that much then it may be worth starting new chars and completing the game in a few days. Then do a quick chest run, wait a month do another chest run then do it all again. Personally can`t be bothered and won`t be running the chests for a 5th time.

Big question is why are there no chests in the other campaigns????

I only have 4 characters in all the way through Elona, so my trick is to do 1 character a week. Seems to work fine... Thats 25k + lots of goodies a week. seeing as I tend to not waste gold on things, (I play for them instead) It always seems like I have plenty for anything I want to craft or questing supplies.

Anyways... I did some asking around and the 32 day trigger seems to hold true. It is from the last time you TRIED to open the chest. Not just the last time you got something... I was wondering why people I play with all the time were saying it NEVER reset... And I was like HUH? what are you taking about? I went with the guy I went with the 2nd time today and took him through some chests and I got stuff and he didnt for many of them, but when we hit some of the less sought after chests, like down in Istan, those opened for him. the only thing he said was that well he does not try those hardly at all cause they are not good chests... so that seems to me to confirm the theory... He said he tries the other chests (desolation and torment) every few days trying to see if its reset, and thats the problem. Try to hold off hitting those freebe chests for a good while and then do it again after 32 days... (never trying once in between) commit to it on at least 1 character....

If after that period the chests reset, I think we can call this one confirmed...

Oh and to More Outage... Once upon a time Prophecies was nothing but free chests, that could be hit as many times as you could get there (first that is{it only opens 1 time at all in the party}... Then the keys came out, then factions (using the same system). After the factions Chest running got really crazy (Parties for testing for gold chests then hitting it repeatingly) with Farm bots Anet tried something new that was suppose to be JUST for the wintersday event last year... but it became so popular and proved to be so Anti farm exploit free; that they adopted it for new people to help them build some capital in the game. Since the majority of NEW players atm are in Nightfall, thats where it hit... And with the current overpriced market, this also ENCOURAGES people to play for the gold rather then go out and buy it from illegal merchants. Which may well get your account banned in the process of trying the illegal option.

To be honest I kinda expect all chest to be similar to this in GW2, and possibly in the GW:EN expansion... It was just so popular and if this proves to be true will REALLY quell the Farming bots that resell their items and gold on the illegitimate black-market for real money. That's what its all about. Quelling both the ability and the unjustified perceived need for such services to exist.

because last i heard of them being reset was the 1st reset. I am unaware if they did reset recently.

Ive been able to open them 3 times. I strongly believe that it is a big hassle for some small money, gems, and crappy golds and a waste of time trying to sell them. But its soooo fun to see wat u get! lol

So far i have been able to open all chests with both my ranger and my warrior 3 times, my other 2 characters are quite new so they only went 2 times so far.
I am gonna wait a week with my warrior and try again to test the 1 month reset myself.

I just started out a new Nightfall character and i'll soon have access to some of the first chests and I don't know if i should wait to get access to all chests before opening the first ones.Should I open them all the same day ?
