I recorded everything, so I guess now I just have to wait 35 days and see. :P

How many times has your warrior opened now? That's fascinating if it's true. Good detective work, and thanks for sharing.
@ persephone: You may not be reading this thread anymore, I'm sorry if we all seemed hostile toward you. Please understand that as Cymmina said, we're in this thread to talk about it, compare notes, and maybe figure it all out. Knowing someone might be holding back some significant patterns, even if for our own benefit, well... you can see why it would frustrate some, right? No one would come to a thread called "Cracking the formula" if they didn't want to crack the formula.
Again, sorry if it all got so negative, but I hope you can understand the frustration.

The 31 days + 1 day per # of times you've already opened doesn't work at least for my necro, since she could open the chests once in January and never after that. My warrior and ranger have waited about 2 months after their last successful run, but assassin and dervish, who were the most recent through Elona, got another refill a few weeks ago.
If the theory about chests reseting for another month on each check is true, I gotta stop checking them now and then and instead just wait a month from this point on on all my toons.

I've only opened the chests once with my ranger when they first came out. (lazy) So I could check them again and see what happens as far as quality goes.
One other thing...
*puts on mod hat*
Anymore back and forth bickering (you know who you are) will not be tolerated, so drop it. This is a great topic and a great thread, it doesn't need to be derailed by people that can't get along.

I'm afraid that won't do any good Snipious - on your second go-round you will pretty much be guaranteed all golds. Purples don't usually show up until your 4th run. =)

Sorry if this sounds noobish but i have read all the comments and have no clue what chests you are talking about, all i know is there is some secret formula, and these chests are very valueable.
Also can anyone explain to me how to get to these "secret" chests.

Best thing I can suggest is that you record the time/date when each character opened the chests so in 32 days we can see if you can open them all again. =)

My Mesmer was made on April 27th 2005 (early start by one day) and therefore is a prophecies character.
She opened the chests more or less in order from the Mainland to the Realm of Torment, going back to get the two Newbie Island ones at the end.
This was approximately 3 months ago now, and the chests have not reset yet.
She is my most played character with approximately 750 hours out of 2200 hours total.
I hope that is some use to your data collection.

Two things:
1. When you say approximately 3 months ago, you mean she did not finish the game/get the chests for the first time before January 19th? How many times has she opened them? It would be very strange if you finished before Jan 19, and did not get the autoreset that seemed to be universal.
2. Have you ever let 30 days go by between testing a particular chest? Or do you check every day or every few days?
Thanks

Thanks camby. Yeah, try letting 31+ days pass without even checking. Don't touch them at all. Then on the 32nd day see if they have reset.

Now, do the chests seem to reset per character? Or per account?
I showed a friend the chests since he was new to Nightfall (using my ranger) and then tested one myself--still empty for me. This may be within my 30 days; I haven't been scientific about this.
But odd drops for people who can get chests with one character--but not others--make me think that the resets might include some "cap" for all your characters--that x number of drops or x amount of gold gained per account might be tracked somehow? And that you're "cut off" after you (and your account) reach some limit>
This seems to be a number more than 2 characters worth of chests...but not 3 characters?
Anyone who's had a reset and has three or more characters with most or all the chests want to test this?

Definitely per character. And there are quite a few players with 3+ characters who have opened all of the chests multiple times. :P

One thing I remembered from my last chest opening (it's almost a month ago now) is that the first chest I opened was Do Not Touch near the Zealous Benediction boss, the second Buried Treasure outside Kodash and the third one of the Treasure Chests. After that more or less accidental opening with my ele, I was able to open all the chests with all my other chars. So I was thinking that while the 30 or so day period in between openings might/quite possibly is true, to restart the counter maybe you need to open so that it gives you the sentence - Do not touch the buried treasure chest! Just a wild thought. I tested a few days ago (that was before 30 days were out) and they were still closed. I left two of my chars not touching anything (at least I hope so, memory isn't my strong point) and with one I'll try opening using that sentence sequence and with the other I'll go randomly. Although this might not prove anything, since a better way to test this would be to open all chests one more time now, first char going in the sentence sequence, then wait a month and try randomly. Sorry if this all sounds like a rant.
EDIT:
Just tried opening with my necro and the chests were still closed, guess 30 days haven't passed yet. Whoops! Guess I'll have to start writing these things down. Will try on 19th of June then.
