Magma gloves where one example, but yes.
And probably that was also the 'more ways to customize your characters'.

If you want a game where 'uber items' make up for a lack of skill, may I suggest WoW?

What? Show me the GW:EN preview that says you will get armour from loot, that they will be more powerful, and that there is no level cap.

I wonder how those standalone armour works if it is equipable for all classes...
70+30 = 100 AL for elemental (less than that will be nerf to Ranger)
80+20 = 100 AL for physical (less than that will be nerf to Warrior)
80 AL for everything else?

It's most likely just rare skins you can get as a drop. If it is more powerful it will be PVE only, and even if it is more powerful, it'll get nerfed in like 3 days or so. Even pve only skills got nerfed so I know this stuff would. However I don't think that this armor is more powerful, it's just simply, lootable.

What, "Save Yourself" only gets you +80 armor now?
I haven't heard of PvE skills getting nerfed, unless they were even more powerful before...
Lets face it. The days of equality are over. People who grind now have a distince advantage over people who don't. What we don't know if this is just a crazy, Guild Wars is ending anyway, moment, or if this philosophy of grind over skill will carry over to GW2.

Oh snap, more speculation!
Thoughts on "powerful" armor: could just be a misleading phrase, meaning it could just be the same stats as non-aesthetic armors.
However, if it is implying that these new armors will be somewhat better, then there'll actually be incentive to buy them, and that would be cool.
...But if that's true, if these "new armors" are stronger, then people who eBay gold will now have an advantage over those who don't.
And if they were more powerful, I wonder if they'd make previous Ascended armor sets more powerful as well? The least I could imagine (if they did make stronger armors) would they'd update the previous armors after GW:EN's been out for awhile, just like they did with universal armor inscriptions.
Sad how 100% of my post is pure crappy speculation. I'm bored.

I think Intensity was one PVE skill that took a major nerf. It's one I'd never use. Some got severe nerfs so no one will use them, others got great buffs so they're pretty much loved in PVE.

The easiest way I see is that its just like current armour sets, but the same skin is available for an armour piece for each class. This also means that the standalone armour doesn't have any new coding which could cause new bugs.
This option would also allow tweaking the armour pieces to deal with graphical issues on one class (such as clipping issues with one armour set), without the possibility of causing new ones on other classes (such as causing new clipping issues).
Sure I can see other ways to do it, but since this method only requires the creation of the new armour skins. The other methods need new code while not giving any advantage I can see.

I guess that the stats will be adjusted to the character who buys it. If you buy it with an elly you get hands with 60 armor, if you buy it with a warrior you get it with 80 armor. It will probably be customized when you buy it.
-Just my best guess.

Perhaps the rare stand-alone pieces of armor are crafted by their respective races, and the title track associated with such races means they become more powerful.
I don't think the armor pieces will have any of the inherent effects altered, but perhaps they do something clever which is dictated by the title track...for instance, you could have gloves which increase attack rate by 10...33% based on your Norn title track.

as hyper said, probably get them for your class, so warriors get 80, rangers 70, casters 60 etc
And powerful new armour sets is probably just more 15K

Yep powerful new armor sets is probably just reffering to 15k.
The stand-alone pieces (the 4 glove types and the ninja mask mentioned) are ether a reward for completeing dungeons or the reward for gaining reputation with the races (going off what Ben Miller said in the demo)
*runs out before the omg grind talk hits the thread*

Yeah i like the increase of attack speed type thing, PvE only of course.
I think it would be nice if GW:En armors were like.....5k for headpiece, arms and boots,10K for leggings and 15k for the chest. I hiiiiiiiiighly doubt it but its something along the lines of materials for armor.

Here's a thought, what if it works like the hero armor upgrades where you get a type of drop that you take to a crafter to salvage into an armor? Just a thought. *shrugs*
