Character Edit Announced
Could be old news, but last time I checked on guru, people were still taking guesses and I just wanted to make sure. But I was watching this video and heard the narrator:
"Eye of the North gives the chance for players to change the looks and appearence of their existing characters." (At 1:16) From the looks of it, you get to see a preview of the armor as well for a few professions.
Here's the video
http://www.gamespot.com/video/938739...walk-through-1
Also, it mentions that you don't need to own Night Fall for the heroes in GW:EN.

Ahhh that's sweet.
It took me forever to figure out that heroes were Nightfall only, then I got nightfall, and I wanted heroes with my proph char and I had to go through hell lol
but that was so long ago!
That's really cool though.
Any news on any asura heroes?

Based on the information from the video, it seems like he was talking about the armour, not changing your actual character appearance.
We can still be hopeful, though!

Yea I wouldn't hold my breath about "customizing" our actual physcial appearance besides with armor. Check the Hair Stylist thread in this forum section for more details.

If we really would be able to change the appearance of our existing characters, it would've been pimped all over the GW:EN features lists as marketing. Keep that in mind.

Not necessarily. It could be one of the "surprises" they keep hinting at. Especially with something like that, I think it could be a possibility, even without it being "pimped" or leaked.

Well, either to keep it a surprise or to utilize it to promote GW:EN could both work well for aNet. It would make more sense to me to promote GW:EN with it; but perhaps they are less concerned about promotion and excited to surprise players with the option.
Either way, we can always be hopeful.

well given that the new WoW exp. will have an option to edit characters, and that this is one of the most wanted features by gw players, I think its almost certain that they will implement it

search is not working for me.
many times from long ago change threads Gaile has stated that for security the charactrs are locked to prevent exploits or malicious changes.
you cannot restore items/change an account/ spoof an account /restore a hacked account/ etc. according to what the programmrs told Gaile who passed it to us
that includes appearance which would make the grandaddy of gold sinls if they could

Where, exactly, in that mess of logical info does it hint at anything about appearance?
OMG! Last April Fools Day Anet haxxored my account!

Loviatar, simply because their systems have been designed in such a manner does not mean there is a work around unavailable.
It might (or is mostly likely to) be highly complex and not worth their time, but a work around somewhat similar to what I suspect they did with the April 1 fun might be possible.
For those who say April 1 was simple, keep in mind that it was a global application - specification for individual players makes the problem much more complex.
Of course as I've stated in every other thread, I've only conjecture as to how their systems operate, I don't know for certain.

indeed there is.
the best and only example is the ability to change an offensive name
however this is a static text *mask* which is desplayed to the players as the account has not been changed.
anything customized after the *change* still shows cusomized by the original unchanged offensive name which people cant see.
so the account is unaltered
they stated that appearance is many orders of magnitude harder and animated is magnitudes harder than that.
names are chaged few and far between and a ton of people would want this.
i just dont see them pulling people off GWEN/GW2 to handle this

Loviatar, you and I are actually on exactly the same page. I'm not talking about changing the database. That will not change. I don't seen Anet breaking their own system to change it.
As I said, I've no idea how hard it would be to introduce a "cover" texture for lack of a better term, in order to apply the changes that players want. I DO understand that it is MUCH more complicated than people seem to think it is, which is something I've been trying to get those who cry - "oh but we had the changes on April 1" to see.
My experience has been working with nice and simple databases, mostly which contain nothing more than text and numbers. I understand the difficulty and complications in the programming to add a "mask" to the data pulled from those tables, furthermore I understand the problems that may occur if a database-type "mask" would need to be added - which is effectively what they'd be looking at for appearance changes.
As a global change, the April 1st changes could be accomplished by a single file, maybe even a single line of code, but individual character changes would be much, much more than that.

Character Templates where a surprise before the game release.
The Realm of Anguish was a surprise after the game release.
So everything is possible.
