tips for vanquishing lornars, dreadnought?
Hi,
Ive just finished vanquishing cantha and elona and now I'm trying to vanquish tyria. For those 2 areas, the mobs that contain multiple healers are just too much to handle. I play as a warrior myself and ive tried a couple of builds with heroes+henchies but none seem to work.
Ive tried bringing bha ranger hero, MM hero, and a prot monk hero with 2 monk henchies+cynn and eve. I also tried running 2 SFs+prot hero with the same henchies setup but i failed both times. I usually run an axe warrior with eviscerate+executioners and had no problems vanquishing with it in both elona and cantha.
So because it takes so long to get up to those 2 areas with 8-man party, I was wondering if anyone vanquished these areas with heroes+henchies and if so what builds did you use?

I took Lina, Alesia, Claude, Orion, myself as Glass arrows Ranger with interupts, Olias as a MM, Norgu as Domination mesmer and Master as SS. I went from snake dance all the way to Beacons clearing all 3 areas as i went. Take care keeping Dp of the heros henchies to begin with, once u killed a few bosses and ur into moral Boosts it gets even easier. Took a full evening to clear all 3 areas but it was worth it.

A former guildie I spoke recently cleared Lornar's and Dreadnought top down with heroes and hench, for the challenge.
We as guild team started from Deldrimor, working up.
It's not that hard when you remember a couple of things:
- Monks can't heal when knocked down, so watch aggro.
- large mobs just call for AoE (prefer SS, since HM makes them attack faster)
- The main spell that makes the mobs in Dreadnought hard to kill is Mark of Protection. Interrupting or removing is key to success.
- Since you are melee, consider /N and take Chilblains (also takes care of the Spellbreaker griffons)

I cleared those two areas last week to get my Legendary Vanquisher title. Did it all with heroes/hench. Here's the team that I used to clear those two areas:
me: fire ele (esp. SF, Liquid Flame, with Prot Spirit on my bar to protect myself when the AI couldn't)
MoW: SS, with enchant removal and Barbs
Olias: MM, with Golem instead of Jagged Bones, and no Death Nova (for me, he wasted too much time with those other two skills for little gain)
Norgu: dom mes, with Backfire, Empathy, interrupts and hex removal
Mhenlo
Lina
Little Thom
Cynn
If you don't also need Snake Dance, I'd suggest starting from Deldrimor War Camp. The little bit of Grenth's Footprint to get through to get to the middle of Snakes is very easy - much easier than the whole southern half of Snakes. The northern half of Snakes shouldn't be too hard.
Watch out for the group of Griffons (Spellbreaker) just inside Dreadnought's. They were almost my downfall, since I was heavy on casters but very light on melee. Since you are a warrior, you hopefully will be able to deal with them better than I did.
For the groups of Stone Summit with 2 or 3 Dolyak Masters, you can try stringing out their mobs with cat-and-mouse tactics and take out the stragglers one by one, but often that didn't work for me. Here is what did work.
Do not target the Dolyaks at the beginning of the fight. If you do, the others will heal/protect it very effectively, while the rest of their mob takes out your team. Instead, target one or more others in their mob - the carvers, the gnashers, or whomever - so that the Dolyaks think they are your target and use their healing/prot skills on them. After a short while, call target on one of the Dolyaks. I found that they are slow to switch their healing target to themselves. If you're lucky, you can take one down very quickly. If it happens to get off Mark of Protection on itself, strip it quickly and take it down. If you can't strip it, change targets and count to 10. Hopefully you can take down that other target in that time. After 10 seconds, switch back to the Dolyak and repeat. The Dolyak should fall this time. Then repeat with the next Dolyak, then the next. Then the rest of the mob falls easily.
I found that using that tactic, you may need to deal with Mark of Protection on the first Dolyak, but almost never will the second or third have it cast on them. The second and third usually fall quickly. Having an army on minions helps, because they attack anything - and it seems that if someone else is taking damage, the Dolyak will try to heal it at least as much as itself, making it easier to dispatch.
Lornar's is easy by comparison. The only issue should be the mob around the boss in the center. It also has 2 or 3 Dolyaks, but this tactic worked like a charm with them as well. Since it does take so long to get there, and you definitely don't want to have to fight through Dreadnought's again just to get to Lornar's, remember that there is a shrine in Dreadnought's if you need any blessings before heading off to Lornar's.
Hope this helps.

Ty for the tips Fionn. I'm going to try to vanquish these zones sometime soon. I found that your tactic works really well in the Northern Shiverpeaks with the Dolyak Riders.

Just did both Pass and Drift and really don't understand what's the big deal about these areas.
I went War Camp->Snake Dance->Drift->Pass and never ran in any kind of serious problem, I used my standard vanquishing build which consists of me as hammer warrior, 1 MM hero with Death Nova, 2 SF/MS elem. heros, 2 hench monks, Cyn and Eve.
Didn't need no enchantment removal, interrupt or anything like that just a little bit of careful aggroing and every group fell very quickly, in fact iI went trought the Drift a lot faster the I tought I would.

Smoke Trapper w/ Flame Trap

Did me fine... just pre-trap lure properly and it goes smoothly. The Warriors are only hard if you let them get to your backline with ability to see, the ability to walk properly is just a bonus. Rangers just need to be blinded. Dolyaks are absolutely useless if you daze them and call the target so the hench wand it. Grawl Crones are annoying as hell thanks to Plague Signet. If a mob is too big... scatter a few extra Smoke, Barbed and Tripwires around, but stack the dust traps.

did these areas quite easily...playing as BHA ranger...
MoW as jagged bones MM
Olias as SS nec wit hex removal
Tahlkora as hybrid healing light monk with hex removal
hench:- Alesia
Orion
Lina
Little Thom
very simple area, minions were awesome body blockers and casters just raped enemies while Thom provided more body blocks!
Best tip really as ure a war is get a longbow; simple as that makes the areas that much simpler if you can pull the enemies effectively!

One of the best interrupts out there is Warmongers Weapon, even when a secondary rit casts it on you (as a war), you can almost shut down one of the healers.
Only problem I've had it with heroes is that they have a habit of casting it on the wrong people (Alesia really doesn't need it ) so you might need to micro it.
Works great with aoe attacks as its time based instead of number-of-attacks based. Ranger with barrage or War with cyclone in a mob is real nice.
