Did you read my post? There are trees under the ice where the creature is. If the whole area was sea, slowly drying up, then freezing over, trees would not be there. That water was put there, probably intentionally, either by magic or some kind of torrential downpour lasting days/weeks/months. That area was not covered in water leading up to the point where the creature got frozen in place. It all must have happened within a short time span, or perhaps all at once.

Maybe it's Glint's Mum...

Maybe that's why she guards her eggs so ferociously...because she only wants her offspring to have the parenting she missed out on.

You all assume the creature isn't there by it's own volition, consider that it may choose to hibernate for quite some time in it's own protective icing. Consider also it could then be the source of the cold, and its' choosing to awaken defrosts the environment it was keeping cool before.

That may be true, too. Either way, it rules out a standard pre-historic creature caught up in unusual weather patterns. It is purposely there, and purposely frozen in place, be it by its own cause, or something else. Also, it is likely a very powerful and potentially evil creature, that still has abilities despite it not being able to move - i.e. Curse of the Nornbear. I think we can consider all of these facts, or at least pretty close to it.

Good point, though, hadn't considered that.

I think it's too big to exist in small bodies of water or move that far inland to hibernate. It's possible it's an ocean creature and was scooped out of the ocean, water and all, and placed there because it's freezing and secluded so that it could be flash frozen with magic and never thaw out.

I have a feeling it's a failed creation that the gods could not bring themselves to destroy, as the newer gods seem apprehensive in destroying life. There are a lot of Grenth statues around. I'm wondering if this great feat was done by Grenth himself.

Here's what I just posted on the OTHER Drakkar lake Topic.

I mean I know it didn't snow a whole lot but they were metaphorical winters. Come on, open your English text from time to time.

The sun the moon and the stars will be devoured and an endless night will fall (ie. Nightfall) then the earth will tremble with a ferocity the tears the ground open and Loki and his fire breathing son Fenrir will emerge.

Yadda Yadda Yadda. I dont want to wreck any of the storyline for you in case I happen to be right on the money here.

ANYWAY I believe that the Drakkar would be in essence a representation of Jörmungandr, the giant serpent that rises from the sea to do battle with Odin's son Thor, resulting in the death of the aforementioned serpent and the legendary god of thunder and battle.

He's not the big boss, but he may do away with someone important to the storyline.

Swish.

Also possible except for one thing - when you get a better look at it, like its appendages, it does not appear to be any kind of sea creature. It looks like one from the map's "satellite image," but the limbs are too pointy and segmented. Plus, its skin texture is rough and scaly/bumpy, while sea creatures have smooth skin.

It's like a giant prehistoric sea turtle though.
Except it has huge mandibles!

We already have a thread open about this here:

Since thread merge is epic fail, I'm just going to close this now.
