Are you worried about being able to customize your characters appearance completely, straight down to their hair, face and skin tone?

Changing their face is extreme though, have to keep that in mind. Something that extreme should be very hard to acquire, and very expensive at that.

We have an extreme make-over system already - you can change *anything* you like, but have to re-do every quest/mission/title etc. The whole point is to make change easier, not keep it a total PITA.
Personally, I'd prefer this not to be an "in-game" feature, with costs and hoops to jump through. I'd rather just have a character editor, to change my avatar, without any hassle. I've yet to hear a good argument against that.

I say If you want to be able to change your character the individual should have to go to the Anet facilities. Then go through all the existing Codes,Files, and all that other good stuff and then they can change their char. But I will say if they do add this feature I would be for the "Wig" system making new hair styles for existing chars like the holiday hats.

look its very simple what we will probs be doing
GW:EN is set 6 years after Prophecies, yes
So when we take our characters into GW:EN i am guessing their will be a customization option to show that they have aged!!!
you can't go 6 years wid out aging and NF removed that factor as your characters seemed to travel through time
we will probs get a brand new set of faces and hairstyles that look older and more mature compared to the Proph, Fac, NF ones to show hat our hero is a seasoned veteran

I think the only reason that they wouldn't allow any character customization is because that ANet believes that you shouldn't be allowed to change him
...
That isn't really a good argument, but it is their game, after all. However, the reason I asked the question in post #221 is because it sounded like Lady Lozza was worried about people changing their appearance altogether, straight down to their face. I highly, highly doubt that'll happen. I'm not even holding my breath for a hair stylist. I have full faith that ANet will not allow a "plastic surgeon" into your game, because holy shit that's extreme.

There we go again. Why do we have to gimp ourselves in order to change our hair?

Hey heres a concept no ones thought of. I mean everyone seems to be spooked out about people changing their styles every other day. Why not set a timed limit then?
Simple as, You can only get your haircut once a month. So that way, every 30 days you can get a haircut. Not ridiculously too long or short of a wait.

Who the frak cares what I do with my character its my character. If there is a hair stylist and I want to pay 1k for the change thats my business not your business or anyone else's. Its like saying to a guild. "Now that you have selected a cape you are stuck with your choice unless you pay an outrageous fee of 10k and you can't change it for an entire GvG match season." A cape just like hair is an outward adornment nothing more nothing less.
and thank goodness a cape is only 2k to change.
Also if people do select the same hair I have I want to be able to get something else ASAP.

Well... we already have the overall opinion.
Most of people agree with hari style changes.
Many people agree with hair color changes.
Some people agree with very limited face changes.
Few agree with limited full design changes.
A very little few agree with unlimited full total customization.
And not many people talked about skin tone changes.
For me, I'll just go to hair style changes limited by gold only, color changes limited by gold and dyes, and once face change per charecter (without access to faces of other campaigns) in their entire life, after their ascension or after ending the campaign they were born.
That would suffice for old Tyrian to get the new faces and everyone being happy.
I'll go to get one Hairdresser in each Event Town (Kamadan, Shing Jea and Lion's Arch) that only has availabls Hair styles of their regions, so tohave an Elonian with Canthan Hair, you'll have to get it to Cantha.

No hairstylists and no barbershops atleast for now please. I am hoping in GW2 we can have a better character customizations when you initially make your character for the first time.

I'm all for customization of your own characters, but then if ArenaNet gave free reign to have any skin, it wouldn't be Guild Wars anymore. It would be a bunch of freakish and tacky characters that have little or nothing to do with the fantasy theme. I don't want Homer Simpson, Batman, Wolverine or even the Burger King skin in Guild Wars. Bottom line is that customization puts load on ArenaNet's servers. If we have 4 million characters that are all visually unique, that would take a lot of coding for ArenaNet to process.
I do think customization is possible, but it has to have limits. The key is to have enough pieces such as hairstyles to keep gamers content. I would hope that GW2 allows for both permanent and temporary visual customizations.
Permanent would be things like your height, weight and frame (as in Warrior, Mesmer body styles), eye color, brow shape, nose, ears, chin and and head shape. Even select your preference of natural posture. These are details are what gamers are ultimately looking for.
The temporary stuff that should be customizable is your mood, your dances. things like armor and clothes should still be based on primary professions, just for the sake of other players can identify who you are and what skills you might be using. I think hairstyling can work but it has have limits because realistically your hair can only take so much before you start damaging it.
I think ArenaNet can set a time limit before you can alter the color, choose a style that requires longer hair than your current style. Perhaps you need to play 21 hours (roughly a week of gaming 3 hrs per day x 7 days = 21 hrs) before you can dye it a different color and 84 hours (roughly a month of gaming 21 hrs per week x 4 weeks = 84 hrs) to grow a beard or longer hair style.
Of course this would cost you money and you'd be limited to the styles in different locations.
One thing I fear is people mixing the gender-specific styles for a humorous effect, such as bunch of bearded female Monks or a male Warrior with giant purple beehive hairdo your grandma wears.
I have nothing against mixing styles for mysterious effect or the themes that goes along with fantasy themes of Guild Wars.

Hair is OK; it can naturally be changed... Faces, I don't think so. It's good to keep something of a character the same; its not like you wake up in the morning and put on a new face after all!
Re-Roll if your not happy with the face.
