Why would you change your entire characters appearance? Honestly? That's creating a new character and still using the benefits of the old one.
Not cool.
If you want to do that, you need to delete and recreate. If you want to change your current characters hair and other minor things (and I do mean minor things), then by all means, go for it.

This is true, it was more so the angle I was looking at it from, with "give an inch, take a mile". I just a have a bad feeling about it, thats all, thats why I said IMO.

Oh for a hairstylist and ingame tanning salon! *dreams*
When I make all my chars I spend lots of time going through the character creation screen before I finally settle on a "look". With most of my chars I'm still very very happy with their appearance and at present I don't wish to change anything about them. However; when I first made my ele, I saw her as young, foolish and flighty. She is now 10 months old, has conquered 3 continents amongst other things and has "grown up" considerably imo (yup I roleplay her so sue me ) and for me, she needs a new hairstyle to suit her adult stature.
Now that's just my thinking and my opinion, but I think that a hairstylist npc would be a fantastic addition to the game. I'm female and it's a "girl" thing; heck I can't even keep the same hairstyle/colour for 3 months, I'd love the same freedom to change about my char. I don't want to change her face or her name, just her hair (style and colour). Ok maybe not just her hair, I'd love to be able to change her skin tone. When I made her, as I considered her Kurzick born, with pale, luminous skin she was perfect, but you can't expect a girl to go running around Elona and not get a tan! But then that's something for a whole new thread.
Something else I would love to see, and I'll quote lucifer_uk here:

To be able to give my wee ele some fine ink and piercings like mine would seriously rock. Hell she has biker chick attitude, she wears as close as I can get to a biker chick combo; the ink would just seal the deal. Ok maybe just throw me in some of those awesome mesmer 15k Rogue boots for her aswell and you'll have a very happy ele
I know from this thread that there are some that consider this to be superfluous to the game, but there are a hell of a lot of us who would really love this addition for the additional depth it would bring on many levels. And so long as there isn't the ability to alter your chars appearance ingame, I shall continue to add my voice to the voices of others that would like to see this addition too.
You don't want it, don't use it. But those of us that do want it will continue to ask for it.

I wouldn't mind having a hair stylist, but I really don't care if they add one or not to be honest.

One thing I'd love to see, more than a hair changer, would be a way to change your characters name. A lot of my characters names were made a loooong time ago and I'd love to be able to change them to include the name that people call me now

It is true, Shadow, that we don't have to use it. But let me explain why I feel that it is unecessary and is something which I never want to see ingame.
UNIQUE CHARACTERS.
People complain all the time on these forums, how there are too many clones running around. A lot of people use very similar faces and hair styles, skin tones, and even height because they believe it is hot/smexy/pretty/beautiful. Players complain that Anet hasn't given them enough "pretty/hot" choices. We all want our characters to look beautiful and certain hair and face combinations are very popular choices. However further to this players have been beginning to discover that some armour looks better on certain hair/face/skin tone characters. By adding the ability to play merrycob with characters' appearance, there will be an increase in clones.
Wearing 15k sunspear - hair/face/skin combo.
Wearing 15k aero - hair/face/skin combo.
It doesn't matter how much of a gold sink you make it, people will still do it. You will also have the added complication of "poor" players complaining they can't "fix" their character because it costs too much. And if they are truly using it to fix a "mistake" made during hasty character creation - then yes, in someways it would be unfair.
I'm selfish. I don't want people walking around looking lilke my characters simply because their look has become the flavour of the month. I recreated my characters to look fairly unique, and I'd like it to stay that way. Certainly it means that certain armours don't look so great on my characters - the only reason that I've not bought Vabbian for my ele - but that doesn't bother me. I have a choice of other armour which does look very good on her.
I'm selfish, I want to be unique, and I'm not afraid to admit it. This is the reason I support a hair stylist and NOT a plastic surgeon or tanning salon. Hair stylist has the ability to ADD variety to the game, the other two will only detract from it.
My selfish attitude is not beside the point. It is the point. This is about something I want and something I don't want - not won't use - don't want to see ever.
The only other system I would support would be the option of changing appearance ONCE - at a designated time (say lvl100 equiv. ~1.4k xp). However this system would take away from the idea of the hair stylist which I believe most would like to operate much like the common hair salon in RL.

I'd be all in favor of hair stylists - if only because it's a bit weird for my 27-month old character to still be wearing the exact same hairdo he did back in Prophecies' pre-order weekend (and there are better hair styles available nowadays).
Anyway, if you listen closely to the recently published narrated video for GW:EN then you can hear him talk about changing your character's appearance in other ways than mere armor. Perhaps that could indicate the implementation of a hair-stylist-ish feature? Ah well - we'll find out come release day (or maybe even in the pre-order weekend event).

You know it makes sense... I'm sure my ranger has a piercing hidden out of view somewhere...
Seriously, if they don't add any more customization options for GW they will have to definitely do some for GW2. It adds more dimensions to the RP aspect of our characters.

Can't Gaile get us any real information about this?
I wouldn't particulary mind if they aren't going to add it in, but I'd at least like to know if we're not ever going to get it. I have a few characters I really dislike now because of certain hair styles. I'll probably just delete them, but I'm holding onto the hope that GW:EN might just add in some sort of hair stylist.

Now that raises a good question, has anyone from Anet ever addressed this in any of the many topics that have been brought up about Hairstylists? I have never seen them do so, but I'm not very good at keeping track of such things. Perhaps they're not mentioning it becuase they want us all to be pleasently surprised on the 31st .

Comparing GW to WoW...not such a smart move. I personally don't think they will add one.GW1 is like a big test now to see what is good and what is not to create GW2 with less problems and make it really good. I think they are going to save this topic for GW2 because why waste time with this by implamenting it in GW1 when its going to decrease in players(more or less) when GW2 is coming out. I agree with Wintersnowblind, Gaile is supposed to be the community relations person ...right? So why can't Galie just say there will or won't be a hair stylist rather then having people get all hyped up about something and then be disapointed?
That is my opinion.
