How come Asura, Drawf and Norn armor uses human fashions?
I personally own Norn elemental armor, but my copy of GWEN hasnt arrive from play.com, so i've had to use guildwiki to check what the Asura, Drawf and Vanguard styles look like.
Note that im talking about elemental armor here, but you could say the same about all the profession armors.
Two things you cant deny -
1) Asura elemental armor has a striking resemblance and shape to the Pyromancer Tyrian armor
2) Drawf'n elemental armor has a striking resemblance to air elemental tyrian armor.
You could even say that Norn elemental armor has a similar look to common Tyrian elemental armor. Yes the patterns and colours are different, but the shapes are uncanny. I could understand this if these armors were created by humans, because you could argue those styles were cultural in some way.
But these armor sets are non-human.
The Asura (to my understanding) have lived underground and never made contact with humans until the Destroyers pushed them to the surface. So how could they know human fashions? The Drawfs and the Norn have obviously had contact with humans to one degree or another. But the Norn and Drawf cultures are very different to humans and you think their fashion would reflect that.
Norns worshiping the bear and Drawfs being heavy-labourer and miners.
So how come we have armor sets that are so uncanny to existing human armor sets? I havent personally seen the vanguard armor yet, because guildwiki doesnt have it shown yet, but im holding out hope for something different!!! Anet got it right with Factions Canthan armor, Vabbian armor and Primevil armor. Those were all very different armor sets, and that was still human fashions. So why take a back-step and use existing styles and not do something different again.
I think it would have just been nice to have armors that looked more Asuran, Drawf'n or Norn in fashion and style, and not just make them look thicker because its a snowy region! Dont get me wrong though... some of them look nice, but my jaw isnt hitting the ground at how amazing or different they look. I dont have an overwhelming feeling to save some gold up and buy them.
I spent the preview event getting to rank 7 to get Norn armor and it was a slight anti-climax, even though its not a bad set. The ranger and warriors and other professions seem to have got the nicer end of the deal!
Please Anet, try and put some effort into re-designing armors before you release campaigns and expansions! We dont even have elite versions this time around!
Even the extra gloves and masks dont really make up for it, because alot of those arent going to suit elemental or other profession armors. They will look daft and miss-matched. Those gloves dont even reach all the way up the arm and look dis-connected!
It all feels very rushed to me.... and a real anti-climax for something that is fundimentally the last ever expansion to the game!!! Maybe going out with a bang was a bit much to ask. More of a slight fizzle and pop.

A-Net's lazy with the reskins, most armours in GW:EN are just odds and ends of other armour sets put together with baubles on top.
... Though I'm going for Ebon Vanguard armour for me ele 'cuz the Vanguard rock.

Well I feel somewhat let down, because new armor was one of the main reason for be buying GWEN, along with new exploration (which is also limited and virtually non-existant).
But hey ive got a grand total of 5 new titles to very easilly max... joy!

ArenaNet definitely did a hack-slash reskin job for most of the new armors(some have original design to them) But lets look at the whole picture. EotN as a whole was itself a hack-slash job as well, It was put together between designing Campaign 4 and designing Guild Wars 2, so everybody should of expected some disappointments given the time spent on EotN. Besides that though, one thing I'm disappointed about though is the lack of nice looking armor for caster classes as well. They seemed to make thier major attempt to please the warrior characters, and choosing to forget that alot of people HAVE warriors, but play thier Elementalists, Necros, Monks etc more. Necromancer notably has all been very bad looking reskins that I've seen and Fish notices a lack of original Elementalist armor as well. ArenaNet is forgetting the fact that there is more than just Warriors out there that want to look nice!

Reskinning done right doesn't like like hideous trash. But that's what some of the armors look like.
Warrior Monument Armor is a lazy reskin or several armors meshed into one.
It has no unified aesthetic and looks like a jumble of mismatched parts. Hideous.
In fact 3/4 of the warrior armors look like crap. It's sad. Really, really sad.
The only one that looks cool, imo, is Warrior Dwarven.
Well, at least I spotted 2 armors for my Ranger that I like.

Personally i dont understand why the armor sets are so unoriginal. Anet was going in the right direction with designing armor for factions and nightfall.
Vabbian armor was a god-send and I own that, and it looks sooooo nice! So why take a huge step backwards and resort to using generic models?
I find it hard to believe that the art department didnt look at their proposed designs and think "hmmm their not going to like this" or "you know that is just the same armor we already have?".
They had the perfect opportunity of 3 new non-human races to play with, with different cultures to influence completely different fashions and we got rehashed jobs.
I mean why would an Asuran elementalist have pryomancer style armor?
They think humans are stupid, so why copy our fashion sense?
How come we didnt get some version of Vekks armor, but obviously suited to someone 5-6ft tall?
Its just unbelievable, especially with how much hype we had for this expansion and making us pay £17.99-£29.99 for it. It feels more like it should have cost half that price, considering we got about 1/4 the content of a full campaign.

You got no idea how much I was let down after spending an entire day killing char to be able to craft the Monumental female ranger armor, just to find out that they used the same mesh as the fow armor... Now, I have the fow armor and it was extreamly annoying to see almost the same skin but simply without the obsidian in it.
I belive that Anet has some of the most talented graphic artists, but they are really testing my belief by making armors that I could have made with Texmod and 30 minutes with Photoshop.

freekedout, you wont get a coherent, valid, logical sort of response.
I can come up with a GREAT excuse though.
Imo, the armorers probably took existing human armors, and templated armors around it, since they never had to make human armors before. :P

Its going to be a major anti-climax! I prey it looks nice and unlike anything that has come before!
If you think about it, we've already have our pryo/water, air and 1.5k tyrian rip offs!!!
The only set from prophercies left to rip off is the earth or water armor... *worried*!!!
I hope to dear god they dont just re-hash either the earth armor to just re-pattern it! Please have it be different from anything else and worth the wait!
Actually.... vanguard ele armor >>>

aNet should really offer us 40 NEW armour sets like they claimed they would. It's like reselling something old and claiming it's new. These reskins are weak.

If you want something to laugh at, go onto guildwiki.net. Open the elemental armor which shows them all on. The compare the prophercies elite and the GWEN armor and you will wet yourself at how identical they are.
Out of all the armors ingame, the elemental armor is more identical thenany other between the two! Its shocking and a piss take!

Hmmm...
Asuran armor would be kinda small were it put on a human. How much bigger are you than them?
And for the Norn, I think you could hide in their guantlets.
Dwarves would also be kinda small.

Why? My guess is that A.Net's art director was coming down off of a meth binge when allocating art resources.
At least, I would hope he has an excuse like that other than, 'no, I just failed spectacularly, you should fire me and replace me with someone competent'.

LoL. 100% agreed.
You'd think that at some point in the development cycle someone would have said...
"Uh no, this isn't going to work. They look hideous and the players won't like it."
