The reason I'm having to spend the few hours I have per day grinding is because I DO wan't one of the armours. I want the Norn one for my Ranger but I don't want to spend what precious time I have in game fighting though all the areas killing everything over and over. The vast majority of the armours suck (I think pretty much everyone will say that) but for the one that doesn't I have to grind out for about 30 minutes a day (because I want to actually get through the game as well) and I don't think that is fair on the casual gamer one bit.

I remember looking in the concept art booklet and thinking, "Why didn't they leave the assassin Elite Imperial like that? While it's good as it is, I prefer it that way."
Now they've brought it back as the Asura armour. I am very happy.
The dwarven one? That's no rip-off...
However, yes, the assassin's hero's swords look incredible. :P I REALLY want them.

I'm still of the opinion that requiring 26k points to buy the armour is an attempt to stave off e-bay gold buyers and farming bots.
Can't be bothered to farm some cash, well just get out your credit card and wait for the delivery, elite armor is yours in no time.
Can't be bothered farming some points? Ah, well then, looks like you don't get the armour.
After completing the primary quest arc on my warrior, and doing a few of the side quests he's got about 18k points. I've not intentionally gone out farming hard to get the points on him, so there are plenty that you can get.
Also, dungeon crawling is pure win. Crawl the dungeon, get the reward, trade your book in for title points (2,500per I believe). Some might see dungeon crawling as 'grind' but for me it's a lot of fun (and lots of free dwarf points along the way).

Yeah dwarf will be the slowest to gain, but the easiest since your going to probably be dungeon spelunking anyway.
As mentioned before too, your probably going to get 14-18k for each faction just doing the storyline, I didn't really farm Asura, but I did kill alot along the way through areas, and explored a bit and made sure to go to each shrine and I ended up with about 15k.

Actaully dwarf points are the fastest/easiest to gain. Just go do the snowman dungeon and you get like... 300 kills in 10 minutes? I think its somewhere like that, but you can get like 10k points in 1 hour.

Should we start a new petition like this?
"Dear Anet, most of new armors sux, please give to us a way to craft heroes armor for our own characters.
best regards, GW players."

Agreed.
I frankly dislike almost all Warrior Armor and find Devona's to be the best design. It's not slutty, looks like actual armor and on the opposite end, not all clunky.
Same for Cynn's Armor. It's not slutty (which all Ele armor is) and looks downright classy.
I'm sure others would say the same about say...Eve's Armor? Aidan? Etc.
Thing is, it shouldn't be that difficult. The skins already exist. Someone already modeled them correctly and they fit the same body types...why can't we have them?
I'm sure the answer will be "because we want to keep henchies and heroes unique," but frankly why make their armor BETTER than ours? I'm fine with unique, but at least give us something better than them.
I'll GLADLY give Devona my 15k Glads or Templar for hers! Same with Cynn! :P

Heh I still need to get the final map piece for that.
Question, has anyone found the map pieces anywhere except Norn? I have like 10 extras in total for the other 3, but still no last piece. And not seen any since I started, not even heading to Charr lands through the norn lands.

Would prefer R1,2,3 for the stuff, as it's all obtainable through gameplay, possible exception to dwarf as not going to reach that point until end game, so more likely to have more points, so R2,3,4 or the current system could work there. Picked up 12k points going through dungeons etc just this weekend

Sounds like a whole lot of people spent money on a bin of used plastic and metal scraps that I leave on the curb every Wednesday.
Seriously, where is the art department?

The policy was used in reference to PvP. That the amount of "grinding" or "questing" for powerful armor/items will not give a person a competitive advantage in the realm of PvP. For PvE, the sky is the limit, the grind is optional and gives no mechanical advantage either, for that matter.

One of the reasons I bought GW:EN was for the new armor, but as a casual player, I dont even have the time to get it. Finishes the story in GW:EN is faster than getting rank 5 for armor. That makes NO sense to me at all.
|
Ok, so by your own admission it takes roughly 20 hours (2 days, 10 hours) to obtain the armor. Others have said it weighs in somewhere between 7-28. Where's the problem? Do you want it right out of the gate?
Even logging seven hours a week (which seems to be the low-to-average end for casual players) will get you the armor in anywhere from a week to a month. Is that too long?
Remember, this expansion is designed for characters who are already level twenty and (assumably) already have max armor. Having or not having this armor will not hamper you in the game. This is armor to WORK for.
As an assde, I remember how long it took me to get max armor in Prophecies and that HAD a mechanical advantage.
Quote:
And the argument "You don't have to get it" is such a juvinelle rebutal. I spent $40 on this game, new armor was advertised, days worth of grind for new armor wasn't. The way GW:EN is right now, if I could, I'd return it for my money back and buy bioshock, like I should have. It is lacking in real content.
|
Nothing is stopping you from getting your armor as advertised. You just can't have it right away. That would be Burger King.
Obsidian armor is obscenely expensive, but obtainable. It just takes time (or sadly, wealth.) This way takes time too, you just can't buy your way to your armor, you have to earn it.
If your concern is not having max armor, its obtainable obscenely fast in any the Chapters (though Prophecies is the slowest one) you're required to have in order to play the expansion.
Stay in there, you may not get it right away, but its easily enough to get in in a short amount of time.

This amybe fair enough but the fact I've gone through two areas already with just Heroes and Hench I wouldn't say it was that tough.

Well, I suppose their reply is proof that they have not actually played Eye of the North yet, seeing as it's difficulty is around that of the Wajjun Bazaar / Bukdek Byway area of Kaineng in Factions... I suppose when they said it was intended as a challenge to existing high level characters they were talking about the hours needed to grind for titles, not the actual difficulty (or should I say, easiness) of the game itself.

Honestly, I'm most pissed off about how easy this game was. When I read the hype reports from mags and the internet, I heard 3 acts, and it sounded cool. It sounded like we'd get a TON of new stuff to do. Instead, we get 3 very short segments that hardly explain anything we'd like to know and a fairly small game. The dungeons are also lacking as many simply use a single level from another dungeon(I'm looking at you Secret Lair of the Snowmen!) Also, I'm P.O'ed at the claim you "witness the birth of the silvari".. PFT a 2 second cameo of a tree TOTALLY counts. The armor sucks, but the weapons are cool, but bugged.

Meh, they're still my favourite area, by which I mean, my favourite area in Guild Wars, not just EotN They kind of remind me of Dxun in KotOR2.

No job at the moment, but I have to spend 11 hours at my college every day. I was still able to get my Norn armor much faster than 20 hours. After the preview event (a weekend I spent moving to a new apartment, I might add), I needed only 6,000 points more to hit 26,000 and was able to get that in a mere two hours clearing Varajar Fells... Two hours playing the game, collecting loot, trying out new skills and having fun. If you want to call it a grind, there's always Droknar's Forge armor.

All I have to say with these rep grinds is that they are not that bad. Get WoW, get to lvl 60+ start all those rep grinds, then come back here and say all these rep grinds are horrible.
Although the amour and such are kinda disappointing, although I have a feeling everybody is starting to get moved over to GW 2 already and more weapons/amour will be added slowly just to appease everybody till GW 2.

I have one thing to say and ill let the chips fall where they may.......
I work for a living, i study to make a better living, work is repetitious grind, but at least i get paid for it. The fact that i paid for a game from a already repetitious grind with money only to engage once again in repetitious grind to enjoy a product is just saddening. At least one type of grind i get paid for and make a living out of, the notion that my free time and leisure is spent engaging in another form of repetitious grind is something that i paid for makes it feel like im working all over again. Oh well, this game is going in the trash for now because i honestly have better things to do. By GW:EN, maybe ill finish you when i get a son to finish it for me when he's bored out of his mind.
