The drop rates for any item are pretty horrid, so you don't have much to worry about. I've seen 2 golds playing from begining to end, and one was a Armor:14 Shield.

I got 1 whole gold so far. XD
Some Zealous 15>50 Greater Sage Sword.
I was told it's not so good because of it's high requirement though.

Alot of PvP rewards etc. are now dropping in GW:EN.

Like sephis swords etc.

Dunno if I understood rite but somehow I got feeling from some topic @ guru that even crystallines would drop in frostmaws?

It really does amaze me that people still think a low req rocks.
Do they know nothing about how weapon requirements and damage actually work?

what redfeather was reffering to was that a low req would sell for more, is more valuable on the ingame market. and thus better

Ive found only one *rare* gold drop in the time ive been playing GW:EN, which ive completed as well as raising all titles to at least lvl 5.

R10 Sephis sword, very nice skin.

I believe the drop rate of skins like Runic or even Crystaline(if they do drop) is extremely low.

Don't expect any runic sword to sell for under a 100K any time soon.......

Um, why is that supposed to be a bad thing again?

I mean, it's rather natural that weapons would be generally available from weponsmiths, not random monsters that would never be seen wielding them.

Get us a Crystalline crafter, then let's see how many people like the skin and how many are just in it for the prestiege.

I know that, and was just commenting on how stupid the premise actually is when you understand how weapons in GW actually work.

I would love to see this.
In my eyes, it's the prime example of junk being expensive purely through rarity.
Horrible, clunky model.

I have gotten an elemental sword so far, and sold it to finish off my ritualist's Elite Kurzick armour set. The only really high-end gold so far for me.

I am glad to hear that PvP rewards are finally dropping in PvP, considering they are not PvP items and their access should not be limited to PvP players.

Tell that to a warrior secondary with a Req.13 sword.

While I certainly get where you're coming from, and generally people max out their weapon attribute to get the most damage from it.... there are sometimes builds which require less than maximum weapon attribute.
If you are using one of those builds then a lower req weapon is essential (my General Morgahn really needs a Req.9 Spear... but the Req.10 gold one he has is SO pretty!) ... Otherwise though, it is usually completely worthless.

The general exceptions are the Req.13 weapons... which are kinda niche...

And to the OP:

Excluding chests I've had roughly 5-8 golds drop for me. Most were trash, worst was the req 10 brute sword with no inscription.

Wait what? There's only 2 builds out there that use less than 13 spec. Thumpers, and cripshot/BA rangers. Everything else uses 13 spec at least.

Any build that requires using a weapon from the secondary class will be running less than 13.... and I'm sure the assassin skill Way of the Warrior will bring about quite a bit more of that.
Just because you can't think of any more doesn't mean there aren't more out there.

yeah, dungeon reward chests are really where the money is. Screw the locked chests that are about.

Tagging alone with ne wplayers as they do the heart of the shiverpeaks quest is where I made most of my money. I got a q10 ele sword, q9 runic blade, onyx gemstones, diamons... etc etc etc from that end chest. It's really the best dungeon yet.

Speculation:

When GW started out there were a number of items that were exceedingly hard to get ahold of, and a lot of exploitable farming areas. A lot of people made a lot of money, and a lot of those people still have that money.

Two releases later you have more areas now that drop those rare items that were worth a lot, so the people with the money who already had overpowered characters could mow through the new chapters and farm the heck out of the new high-level areas as well.

Ultimately they drove the prices down on a lot of items and left only a few uber-rare items at the tippy top. Of course, only they could afford those items.

The problem, then, is that newer players cannot make money anymore. If you play the game as its meant to be played and not like a cheetohs-slurping dweeb, you'll make around 65k-100k just from playing, depending on your luck. But, look at the higher end sales items now. Green drops from Tyria are worth next to nothing when at one time they frequently went for 100k or more. Ectos are a third of what they were a year ago, and black dye is worth nothing.

When it comes right down to it, there are only a few ways newer players can get hold of the uber-rare items:

1. Farm like a lifeless dullard for hours at a time
2. Buy money in violation of the TOS
3. Hope ANET changes their drop rates.

#3 appears to have been the solution.
