Yeah because of the mod they are a bit useless outside of Charr territory.
Why don't they just add normal weapons and let them cost 5k?
(And add an additional weapon smith as the menu will be really cluttered otherwise...)

The vs. Charr is not an inscription, and it can't be over-ridden.

I think its like how you cant overwrite the fire dmg mod on a fiery dragon sword. Looks like I wont be choosing the vanguard to go with lol.

Man you people just can't see the possibilities. Buy some of those weapons, and go back to nolani or grendich and start farming for charr carvings. Halloween and wintersday are coming up ^^

oh ffs, when will the whining END!?!
There are a billion gazzillion weapons skins in GW, the Ebon Vanguard skins are no Crystalline or Tormented skin, they're decent but fairly plain, right? So here's a mindlessly crazy idea: How about you have... (wait for it...)
MULTIPLE WEAPONS with MULTIPLE USES, for MULTIPLE SITUATIONS?
Or is that too logical? Although popular, your 15^50, 20/20, +30 isn't gonna deal with EVERY situation...
In case you haven't noticed, there is quite a big reason Ebon Vanguard weapons have the Charrslaying mod on them: Not everyone playing EotN has the original Prophecies, which was the only place Charrslaying weapons were available up until now. So what if it's a permanent mod? Are you telling me the Ebon Vanguard weapon is the ONLY one you could ever ever ever want to use? No... So how about you use this for Charrslaying, and other weapons suited to other areas...
Now I do partially agree the caster situation, but once again, it's not the only weapon/skin in the game, and hardly a sought after one at that...
So all in all, another whine for EotN, which I happen to love, but SOOO many people whine about like Anet ripped them off... Whatever... Not going there...

OR: they can just make the Charr mod overwriteable so that if people want to use those skins in a situation outside of Charr territory they can. You know, kinda like Norn, Asuran and Dwarven weapons are. Unless you feel that
1) Consistency is bad. More variety in weapon skins for more personalization is bad.
2) ArenaNet are incapable of making any sort of errors or oversights. Every design choice they make is immune to even the most minute of criticisms.
If either 1 or 2 or perhaps both apply to you, feel free to ignore this post or flame me.

I like the look of some of the Vanguard weapons, I currently have their scythe that only goes into use in Charr areas.

Consistency is not bad, and variety is good, and by consistency I assume you are referring that Ebon Vanguard weapons be fully moddable, as are the Asuran, Dwarven and Norn. Well, at the end of the day, these are Ebon Vanguard skins, Ebon Vanguard HATE the CHARR, they are titled Charrslaying weapons and therefore, if you were to replace this mod, it would remove the Charrslaying aspect of the title, leaving you with just an <insert basic weapon name>. This permanent Charrslaying mod is CONSISTENT with the storyline, and I don't think there's much sense in crafting a Charrslaying Axe to kill plants with.
Here's the biggy... All this moaning about the permanent Charrslaying mod, but have any of you SEEN and WANT the skins? There is 1 picture of an Ebon Vanguard weapon on both wiki's (sword) and it's pretty average... Is this whining really worth it? Do you really, really want that skin? Or just another excuse for a whine without even looking into it first?
*awaits cries of "it's the principal"*
Anyways, I can almost guarantee that if these were fully moddable, we would see threads like this:
OMFG! Ebon Vanguard are SELLOUTS! They hate the Charr so much, yet you can override the Charrslaying mod with a Pruning mod! WTF?
Morale: You can NEVER please everyone... =oP

I never implied that, and yes I know Anet make mistakes. The big difference is, I don't bleed them for perfection and whine about such minor things like alot of ungrateful sods on these forums do. Not even going into that... Not a fanboi, I can just see all the good they do over the errors here and there that usually get fixed anyways...

At the end of the day, we have one skin that is more or less undesirable to use in most of the areas of the game. And in a game like GW where grinding in PVE is centered around character customization this is a big deal. Reference: Re-skin end game armor threads.

I gurantee you there will be at least a small portion of the playerbase that opts to(or wants to) use this skin. I'm sure they would like it if these weapons weren't sub-optimal against about 95% of the enemies in the game. As for not being able to please everyone, that is a given, but as long as you're going to displease someone, what's wrong with giving players more options in the proccess.

Having these weapons become moddable is hardly a cry for perfection from them. In my opinion, it's an oversight by the designers that hopefully, once brought to their attention will be attended to. Secondly, people on this forum (most of them) have paid their money for this product. Because of the nature of the CD-keys and accounts they can not return it and get their money back. Therefore, they have a right to voice their discontent with a product they purchased(within reason of course). If you are pleased with the game, then that is fine, enjoy it but don't harp on others because they don't feel the same satisfaction for the current state of the game as you do. Afterall, a game of this type is prone to changes and player opinions do have an affect.
EDIT: Quote tags and such.

LOL @ this post...
How does it hurt YOU that some people want to be able to mod their weapons?
I have weapons for multiple uses... but I am never going to spend 5k for a weapon that gives me a tiny damage boost against charr and is USELESS in every other scenario......
Nobody is trying to take your precious charr mod away, just be able to customize the weapons they paid money for like you can every other weapon offered by crafters.
Now, in my opinion, definitely keep the anti-charr weapons... just give options for regular weapons too!

i totally agree with razorblade monkey.
if u dont want the charrmod, just dont buy the vanguard weapon. why do u demand other weapons from the vanguard? i think there is a beauty in not being able to have every weaponskin with every stats. its about little differences in little aspects. just accept the fact that the vanguard weapons are kinda special and accept that u cant buy every skin with your desired mods.
you guys remind me of little kids, who excactly want what they can´t get. i´d bet most of the people whining here wouldn´t even buy the vanguard weapons if those would be unmodded. they are just whining because they don´t have the possibility to buy it the way they WOULD want it. ridiculous.

But, but....we all know every weapon in the game should be 15^50, 20/20, +30...and every shield should be -5(20), +30. QQ
...ok, I'll stop now >.>
I don't really mind the mods. I just wonder why the Dwarf/Norn/Asura don't have some kind of unremovable inherant mods, as well? Oh well.
My Glacial Blade of Charrslaying > Vanguard Charrslaying Sword. Muahaha.

And I bet you wouldn't be saying something like this if the charrslayer weapons had a really good looking skin. Which, btw, tastes are subjective so for all you know, the charrslayer weapon skin could be my favorite skin in the game but I can't use it because of the inability to mod it.
I have no idea why you want to bring up little kids or what not, but letme make this point again, in a game like guild wars where the only real reward is customization of your character to make them different from the rest of the pack, you take every option you can get and make them viable.
Stop whining about people whining and let us have another usable skin.

yes, you are right, its about customization. but this doesn´t mean everything in the game must work for the customization. i wouldn´t mind if the vanguard weapon would be unmodded. but i can´t see the reason why everything in the game should be 100% customizeable. fiery/icy dragon swords and those bladed axes have fixed mods. every green has fixed mods. noone cares. why shouldn´t there be fixed crafterweapons with unique skins as well?
if those vanguard weapons would use skins i really really like...well, i´d go kill charrs with those then just for the fun of it. and use other weapons for other stuff of course, knowing that i can allways go for sum charrfun if i need to see my pretty weapon in action.
