Gaile has just confirmed that the Cores have a very low drop rate and that Anet is looking into it.

sneak peak: 2 (played for a total of 6 hours)
Full game: 1 (played about 20 hours maybe more)
Sold them for a whopping 2K each, hopefully this will be fixed and i can start farming to get me some shexy gloves.

It looks like the drop rate was changed just prior to release. I've been bugging the items guy all weekend about this; had I known he was going to change it I would have adjusted the quest accordingly. # The number of Destroyer Cores needed for High Priest Alkar's quest "Destructive Research" has been reduced from 10 to 3.

Did Glints Challenge last night 4 times with all players team. 17 Cores and rank 45 for the daily scores before I called it a night. Got 6 in one run thru but only 2 on my first one. Maybe I'm just lucky.

wow ... what a bunch of crap, 75 e for those!? No thanks. They look horrible, the destroyer gaunlets look much better imo. 75 e??? I can't get over that... you would have to be stupid to waste 75 e on some pale looking hands, i'd rather stick with my fissure gloves.

I was buying and farming cores for the last few days. The last update did noticably increase the drop rate of cores since I was able to buy over 100 today alone! That made it possible for me to finally get these...

I agree with the previous poster on the chaos gloves. My monk is now in line to get those! =D
