Yeah. It's a little bit buggy though. Like in Flame Cathedral, I used it and it produced yellow pings of where secrets were located which is fine. It worked great on level 1 where it was only ghost dwarves that help you. However, things get a little annoying with level 2.
When I reach level 2, I use it off the bat and find out there's a secret just at the entrace to a tunnel on the left. I see the little blue telltale flame of the spot, and I use LOD again. It says I found a treasure. YAY! My very first treasure...... so I open my inventory........ huh? where is it? What did I get? I look around the spot where the marker light was. Nothing. I search the immediate area.... nothing. Well that was a letdown...
So I keep going and I find maybe 6-8 more hidden treasures, each of them produce a chest rising up out of the ground. So at this point I'm dead certain that first hidden treasure was bugged. Also, sometimes when it pings the locations, the little blue flame marker doesn't show up. When I use LOD on top of the spot I was sure I saw it, the chest rises up, but only halfway out of the ground. So I figure, the hidden treasure are a little bit bugged in that for some of them, the little blue markers are there, but they are hidden under the ground textures so you can't see them. I suspect that first treasure that I couldn't find was either buried in the ground, or when it spawned it actually wound up in the celing where I couldn't see it. In hindsight, I shoulda hit ; space to see if it was actually there.
What I think ANET needs to do to fix this is either:
A) make the hidden object keep pinging a couple more times on the mini map before LOD wears off (spamming LOD does not make the hidden object ping the map again, so you gotta wait for the effect to wear off which takes I think a minute?) so if the blue flame ends up hidden under the ground, you can locate it better rather than wait for the effect to wear off, and then use LOD again to re-ping it. or...
B) make the light blue flame taller, like a little column of flame so even if it is buried in the ground texture, something should be sticking out.
What did I get out of hidden chest hunting? All contained 150-250 gold per chest. Bleh...

Yeah, those are the most common reveals. I've only gotten one rare material so far, a lot of small gold drops, and a lot of dwarves.

Out of 5 Treasures opened, I've gotten an Onyx Gemstone, a Diamond, and the other three were around 160-170 gold.

The quest to the light of deldrimor is still bugged. I took the quest in the preview but I have not completed it. After the sept 4 update I did not get teh skill (of course , because I have not completed the quest). Now Alkar is not taking my cores, and when I abandoned the quest he is not giving it again. Grrrrr. Is anet aware of that it is still bugged?

Alkar wont give you the quest in the outpost, you need to go in battledepth...

How do you get to the battledepths - through normal quest and mission progression?

through entrance to battledepths either from the ice cliff chasms, or exit from central control chamber.
i find it quite annoying in oola's lab, when the flames spawn in the water flooded area (with flame traps), as the flames are overlayed by water texture, making them invisible. still able to find tho ;]
anyways the drop rate of the hidden chests is BAD, well it's cool to get that ~1k for clearing all hidden chests in dungeon, but still i'd rather have onyx.
My Sweet Revenga is right, there should be some more pings for LoD, spamming doesn't help much....
did anyone notice, that sometimes when used, LoD pings items that are far away from the actual dungeon map? i mean in the gray field. I know sometimes mob or locked chests spawn in unaccessible areas, but that's quite weird if the hidden/dwarf spawn there. What is more, these pings doesn't appear anymore, like they spawned and respawned. Weird enough for me....

It would be interesting if we took a talley of what was found in various dungeons and on what floors. Find out if deeper dungeons give better chest rewards, or if different dungeons give better. Like is frostmaw level 5 better then spelucnher level 2 for chest rewards.
Though if they are always equal, best is probably speluncher on the second floor there was usually between 3-6 chests *some times double or tripple ping* though best I got from there was spiritwood plank, but you can still find a fair number there.
And I THINK if you move far enough from a ping then go back and ping you will some times reset it, I've gone off from a ping and come back and got one, wasn't the spot It was before but I got it.
