New-race heroes can't use their own race's skills?
I'm probably late to the party, but I can't find any threads on this. I was assuming that there would be some innate difference between regular heroes and the new races. At the very least, I would have expected, for example, Vekk to have a max Asuran track and be able to use Asuran skills with him. Is there a way to do this that I'm completely missing? Thanks.

Where'd you assume that?

because in every RPG i've ever played, different races differ in some way other than just their appearance

Well if that was the case, if Vekk could use Asuran skills, there would be pretty much little incentive to bring Zhedd or any other hero ele for that matter.
Although, I guess I can't say much about that since I don't know any of the Asuran skills besides the summoning ones.

If you playd a bit of guild wars before, you would know that there would not have been any advantages into bringing the x hero rather than the y one (we talking about "x" and "y" having same class). So well the answer is always nope

there should be a difference, not necessarily a clear advantage. For example, maybe Vekk could have more energy than a human, with a penalty to his defense.

this is a great reason that i shouldn't have assumed that there would be a difference!

Races in WoW sure aren't all the same.
Even if they were, it just doesn't make sense for Anet to 'introduce' us to new heroes of new races, and have them exactly the same. Again, there doesn't have to be a clearcut advantage (because, remember, humans are a race themselves)...just something different.

It sounds totally bad ass to me, and gives a pretty cool message: We're all created equal yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay.
But again, if there were "certain perks" that heroes had because of their race, then there would be like little to no incentive to use the other heroes.

1. GW ≠ WoW
2. GW ≠ MMORPG, It's a CORPG
3. Zhed is a centaur yet has no racial benefits.
The races will play a bigger part in GW2. For now this is just an introduction to the various ones.

I have to admit having the new races heroes gaining some advantages at least in their teritory would seem both logical and interesting.

That's not true, because the other heroes are a race - humans. Again, like I said before..humans could have everything balanced, Asurans have higher energy at a defensive cost...maybe norns have higher health at an energy cost...hell, maybe even have a few skills that are only available to human heroes, and other race-specific skills for the other races.
There are plenty of interesting/fun things that could have been done without making it such that people would only want to use the new races. I mean, is GW2 going to work this way as well?

you sir have read my mind. i just want a huge bear mauling stuff for me. and even if u want to give her a sense of self worth for it, make it so she gets like +1 health or +1 energy regen when shes a huge bear. o, and i also think that her weapons should go away and she should kill things with cool bear claws . idk, that may just be me

I hope so. Balance > Imbalance (or perks). It's fine the way it is.

Going back to the OP, Asuran skills are PvE skills. Heroes have never been allowed to equip PvE skills on their bars. Its been that way since PvE skills were introduced with the Sunspear Rebirth and Lightbringer Sigs.
