Excellent storyline, fun quests, great dungeons, pretty loot, Jora's and Livia's boobs...
...yup, I'm happy. GW:EN is worth it at twice the price.
I've put in about 20 hours over the last four days, and while I finished the "campaign", I still have 14 dungeons, 30-40 quests, and a lot of exploring to do.
Good stuff.

Nah, I'd say it was definitely worth the money.
Let's think....monthly subscription? No
Extra play until Guild Wars 2 comes out? Yes
There's so much to thank Anet for in terms of their focus towards gamers having fun and not having to pay a subscription for it.
I would say, if you enjoy the game, then it's worth the money. If you hate the game, obviously it's not worth the money.

The whole Anet model comes across to me as quite a good value, I've been playing GW for two years, and will probably play for a good while still.
Compared to the traditional stand alone game or monthly fee online games, it still works out to be a good buy.

I was going to write a reply, but I read this one and think it fits the bill perfectly.
The game has been great value to me over 2 years, and for those worried about the odd dollar or quid - it's only numbers.

"Was GWEN too expensive for what we got?"
No!!!!!!!
Imho I find GWEN TOO cheap in regards of what I get....LOL
1/- I just dropped yesterday (in Asura Land ) my FIRST perfect GOLD req9 insc. Elemental Sword.I never intended to farm one
2/- Already said hundred of times.....Since GW release in 2005 I only bought 1 (one) game Obli....that I uninstalled very quickly.
3/- What I love in GW, my first online game, is that you need to deserve IT....Do you follow me?
4/-The more positive you are, the more you increase your chances to reach your goals.
5/- GW is an awesome game.
6/- Congrats Anet....GJ
7/- Keep on truckin & have fun.....its only a GAME

So all in all, yeah gwen is worth the price.

St. Anger was good compared to most of the music released in 2003, but it was still a bad album. (this coming from a huge metallica fan).
We're not talking about whether or not this is 'relatively' expensive. Most FPSs are overpriced IMO, but an RPG such has this has limitless possibilities, and for some reason they didn't tap into that potential.

I'm on the fence.
On one hand - comparable to their stand-alone campaigns, it's very expensive for the amount of content. It's only $10 less than an entire campaign but has 1/5th the content.
On the other hand - comparable to other games out there and how much I'll probably play it, it's a deal.

EoTN is actually a significant amount of content, it's just that the vast majority of it is optional. For the most part, the 18 dungeons are not trivial areas (at least, not any more trivial than missions in previous campaigns), so if you haven't completed all of them then you really have no grounds for claiming lack of content. It would be similar to claiming lack of content in Prophecies after getting run to Thunderhead Keep and beating the game from there.
There are also three minigames that are simply more fun and addictive than nearly anything else GW has to offer.
I do not claim that EoTN has content equal to the three full campaigns, but I think it has a level of content appropriate to an expansion. Perhaps the price could have been lowered slightly, but I consider it worth the asking price as-is.
Re: Additional content, I don't think there's going to be a DoA-like add-on to EoTN, since there is already an elite dungeon that takes several hours to complete. While it's supposedly not as hard or as long as DoA, it does serve the same role, so I can't see Anet adding something on top of that.

Hope they gonna add a new realm of god or new explorable area to 'balance' the expensive price for the expansion. Has anyone notice the volcano island on your top left tyrian map?

Easily worth the cost of admission. I'm still in the slack-jawed what-do-I-do-now phase... haven't even started in on the Asuran side of things.
Slow ride. Take it easy.
Most excellent.

To answer the OP question, no.
I knew before purchasing Eotn it was an expansion, not a complete game and as such did not expect the amount of content as a standard game.
I've been happy with the amount of content / price paid, even though it's is short in comparison.

Actually, I have to disagree with that analogy. Saint Anger wasn't good compared to ANYTHING
On topic,
Think about this. Buying Nightfall gives you a campaign and 2 character slots. Subtract the character slots from the equation and nightfall costs 30 bucks. With that point of view, eye of the north costed MORE money, and provided LESS content.
However, it still owns. I am more than satisfied. A few more dungeons wouldn't have hurt though, or some NICE armor (non-reskin)... or even better, a realm for Lyssa or Melandru (In realm of Dwayna, 55 monks solo YOU!)

Games like these are VERY good value for how much entertainment you get out of them. Even if you only play 2 hours a day for just one month and then then never play it ever again, that is 66 cents per hour -- extremely cheap entertainment. I don't really see how people can spend hours and hours and hours playing a game, and consider that $40 is "too expensive" -- even if you work minimum wage, your time is still far more valuable than the cost of the game.

while i agree, here's the thing. there's a lot of content, true, but for what? we didnt get anything REALLY new (except for the dungeons), i mean the best sword in the game is STILL the 15^50 20/20 hp +30, they just gave the same items different skin rewards wich honestly does not justify doin any of the new dungeons.
dont get me wrong the dungeons are awesome, but there wont be much replay value, since i already have the important items, even if anet wouldve gave us stats like these i wouldve been grateful : sword: 15-22 , 15^50 20/20 hp +40 that's all...
what im trying to say is, items had no progression in this expansion, anet shouldve taken that into consideration.

Sorry I should have said, i boguht mine from play.com for £17.99 as I do everything. But IMO i felt that was still a bit expensive. But Anet were selling it full RRP and saying you had to buy it from them to get the mission pack, so some will have used their online store.

The absolute last thing this game needs is "leet gear". Why would anyone want a WoW style gear-grind to get the best stuff? No, having all gear created equal is ideal. Don't fix what isn't broken.

At first I would have said no. But after seeing the reskins & finding out that many of the dungeons are cut&paste sections, I'm thinking it was a little too much. And that's weird cuz I rave about Anet and the quality of GW to everyone.

The dungeons are their own justification. I paid for dungeons so I could play them. Or, in other words, the entire point of buying GW was to play it - I don't need further justification than that. That content that you're carelessly brushing aside as having "no justification"? Yeah, that's the content you paid money for.
Your mentality is widespread among the GW playerbase, and I've always considered it to be puzzling and misguided. I would say that most people buy games to play them - not to take on a second job so they can get l33t itamz. Sure, I like having cool gear in any game I'm playing, but that's a secondary consideration for me after I've had real fun. I enjoy the (generally) well-designed areas in EoTN, and I love the work they put into the environments. That's why I paid to play it - with or without improved items.
Different strokes and all that, I guess.

GW has never had serious item progression. For the most part, things have just been getting easier and easier to get (see: inscriptions). Frankly, I think that anyone playing this game for items is playing the wrong game; you should consider playing WoW or, better yet, Diablo 2.
