Default Playing PvP'ish mini games to unlock PvE skills!

This isnt really a complaint, but just an observation! I love the principle of putting mini-games into GWEN, but why do they all have to be PvP'ish?

(i.e fighting someone else one-on-one)

I ask because it seems odd to have to do PvP style combat to earn PvE only skills! I'm not personally that bothered about having every PvE only skill in GWEN, but it would be nice!

But I personally find polymock frustrating, Drawf boxing boring after the first run and the Norn Tournament impossible (mostly Bison).

The main reason being that im a PvE'er by heart and I dont like either close combat or one-on-one. Im dont mind saying its because I suck at it!

I've never set foot into the PvP side of GWs because it doesnt interest me! I just find it a slight contradiction that we were given PvE only skills which arent influenced by PvP, but we have to unlock them by doing one-on-one combat!

I'm not suggesting they remove polymock, boxing or tournaments. I realise alot of people like them and thats great! But it would have been nice to have some mini-games that interested the PvE'ers more, or have alternative ways to earn some of these skills.

I currently only have one Asuran skill, very few Norn and quite alot of Vanguard and Drawf! The ones I lack are due to Polymock and the Tournaments (I think)!

I've completed the game, and all dungeons and quests so it makes sense thats where they must be! Like I say, its not a complaint because its nothing major.

But alot of people are complaining about how the PvE only skills are connected to skills (which is there right to do so). But they dont seem to appreciate that alot of players ingame dont even have all the PvE only skills. Mainly because they cant get them all and/or dont enjoy the mini-games!

A good example of alternative tasks would be the Norn quests where you have to drink beer, and then run around an obstical course and then heard pigs.

That I found fun!

If they added quests similar to that for the Asurans, Drawfs and vangaurd and added the PvE only skills are rewards. It would solve that tiny issue!

But its just a thought!

I'm mainly PVE, too. But I see no problem with any of those games. Well, I understand Polymock does require a lot more thought than most of the game since it is one on one, dwarf boxing is more... Well, you'd need to be good at games like Soul Calibur to get through that one easily. Norn tournament? Well it's not exactly the most difficult thing.

I love the challenges presented to me and I love finding ways to beat them. One-on-one fighting is usually the greatest way to show skill, too.

I just wish Polymock was longer. I mean, we get LOADS of available pieces, yet it's done after the quests and tournaments only give 10-50 Asura points.

I can understand you'd want more variety, and I don't blame you. But to say that those challenges should be more restricted isn't really fair on those that do enjoy it.

Those aren't really PvP at all.... Like did you consider the doppleganger PvP? They aren't even PvP in style. PvP in this game is TEAM based, not solo. If anything you find more solo stuff in PvE with farming.

Asuran skills:
Seven skills are given as quest rewards from Tarnished Haven.
Four "summon <insert name here>" skills are from Polymock.
One if given by Blorff in Vloxx Falls.

Norn skills:
Four skills are in relation quests centering around the Truthseeker.
Three skills are given when Bison has been defeated mano y mano.
One skill for defeating the Glacial Griffon mano y mano.
One skill for beating down the bear mano y mano and joining the Bear Club.
One skill for getting drunk and doing the Alemoot thing by yourself.
One skill for killing the worm as part of the prenup.

One skill for smacking around three bosses at the lake.

So the Asurans have four skill quests requiring you to fight by yourself using Polymock pieces, while the Norn require you to fight by yourself three times and manage to run around some barrells and slop the hogs once without assistance.

None of the skills are life threatening if you don't have them.

Cheers,
TB

There is a "hidden" town in the Asuran lands! You get led there by the polymock quests!

I think you missed the town because you haven't tried polymock yet! There are 6 quests there that give Asuran pve skills!

I suggest you go out of Rata Sum and head to the south east! Then you might find the "hidden" town! I found the quests to be fun!

Good luck!

i don't see how you have trouble with the norn tournament but not with the dwarven quest...

and they will never be PvP'ish as long as the foes are led by AI...

i really don't know what to say except that i disagree with you and that there are many more stuff to do if you don't do well or if you get boring of the minigames...

about the skills... what's the point of getting all the skills if you will not use them? you don't even get a title for getting them all like the Skill Hunter...

but good luck to whatever you decide to do.

Its either pvp or its not, in this case its not. PVP is player versus player, get why it sint now? That would be like saying GvG is PvEish because you have to take out another mob.

and for the love of god, stop making more and more topics everyday to post your "thoughts". make a blog or something.

This gives me an idea.

During the Norn tournaments, you unlock Xandra and Khamu when you beat them. Why not give the skills of your beaten opponents to you character! That'd be pretty cool.

I tried Polymock.

I managed to beat the the second guy after dozens of tries.

Polymock no longer exists for me.

They might as well add "I win!" skill into it, but I couldn't be bothered to play that. It's just poor implementation, and from my perspective utterly pointless.

The UI and the game design wasn't made for that, and it just feels like a clumsy gimmick.

I have to agree they're controlled by AI just like any other PvE foe and they additionally dont give you gg's for playing wiki builds.

Ive come full circle on this now that more than just my war has moved through GW:EN.

The Norn tournament was simple for my war, Magni was a pushover. Then I brought in my Rit...ouch..

Then my mesmer...double ouch...

Then my ranger....WTF...

Now I eventually was able to beat him with all 4 chars, but I had to use some crazy builds that would never work in the PvE or PvP areas of this game. Tying skills to something that is so very clearly balanced for one profesion(and yes I know the skills rewareded are too) is just plain frustrating.

As for the Polymock, its a different story since no matter what type of char you have its the exact same. It does take some time and effort but its far from difficult and you can cheat very easily simply buy purchasing a high lvl peice from other players. Myself I never registered the last 3 peices I won when my first char played, then used them to make my next 3 a cake walk

I seriously don't see why everyone says that magni is so hard, at least as an elementalist. I can't speak for other classes, but there is one ele line that is almost made for the arena, and that is earth. If it was possible to fight magni without fighting the other battles, it would be possible to beat him with a two-skill bar: obsidian flame, and "You Move Like a Dwarf!" For everything else, you have magnetic surge, shockwave, stoneflesh aura, etc. It's really not bad, you just have to look at the different ele lines and see what would work to a: kill one other enemy quickly and b: not die. As for the other minigames, dwarven boxing is just kind of easy, especially if you can mash buttons quickly, and polymock just requires you to figure out the a.i. and 'sploit it. And, as others have said, it's not really pvp, it's solo questing.
