watch your radar and make sure none of them come within spell-casting range... if the spirit wood is not within range start attacking the spirit sheperds until he does

Are you sure? Someone told me that Drago's has got longer range but worse accuracy.

Then they were mis informed.
Flat Bows have the same range as Long Bows (longest)
Flat Bows have the same attack speed as Short Bows (fastest)
Flat Bows have the most ridiculously big arc ever so you miss moving targets much more often

Since i like running on my ranger i've got myself some useful items for it. These 2 i've found work really well for running ANYWHERE on a ranger.
Crippling Spatha of Defence
Start by ignoring everything about it except the +5 armour mod
Crimson Carapace Shield (the good ol' desert collectors strike again)
+45 health (in stance)
-2 damge (in stance)
If you were feeling really posh you could bring 2 weapons with +7 mods
Also if i was using Dodge/Storm Chaser (like i use to for running to Ice Imps) just switch between a +4 Exp and +4 WS mask, takes alot of effort so usually half way there i got bored of it.

i use the +55HP axe and the CCS +45HP/-2DMG in stance to get to the Forest...
i don't know about switching to a Superior tho... sure it'll make your running skills last a lil' longer but then your down -75HP... i think it's best to just stick with the original build where SC lasts 19 sec which is awesome imo

Which +55 axe would this be?
I'm presuming some sort of stupid Ascalon quest reward?
Plus after doing a few runs of it today (4 trips 3 screwed up in forest 1 compelted) i couldn't even be bothered to switch to them items... The rest of the run is incredibly easy, its just getting past that first skel group and sometimes the 2nd when they spawned badly (survived 1 deep freeze so far ). Amusing to go running off and start killing Skeleton Impalers after the forest too, aslong as you can press Escape and cancel your unguent before they interrupt it you win

I think he meant the escape key on the keyboard, not the skill.

Oh, some more legendary items from Henge of Denravi...
Yeah i meant the escape button on the keyboard. Unless i can figure out how to cheat like Ancient Skales
Thinking about another elite. Would it be possibly to use Melandrus Arrows maybe? Wouldn't make a lot of difference to the spiders but the extra damage because of AoR could be devasting but i suppose the lack of poison could make you suffer a bit. Kindle Arrows too...

you NEED NEED kindle (unless you have a fiery bow, but it's still recommended for the +dmg). otherwise, your attacks won't do diddly squat to the spirit woods, who will kill you if you don't kill them first.
edit: i actually killed a group of 3 skales (smoke pits) when they tried to wand me through a wall. but their attacks HURT and you can't do anything to armor stack against them (it's not physical, it's not elemental, dunno what type of dmg their wanding is). they hit me for 37 each time. but they go down fast when they don't have siphon+transfer.
edit2: it's actually easy to tank past a group of skeletals and ether breakers... with 551hp, i lose around 250hp just tanking through it for the 10sec duration of deepfreeze.

Overall...Great build. Great to see that my ranger wasn't a waste of 15k armor. Then theres the sweetness of proving my brother (and any other ranger h8rs) wrong with his famous line "RANGERS CAN'T SOLO U IDIOT"...ROTFL. Anyways i have also found IDS solo ranger build, solo grawl farming build w/ranger, solo UW trapping with ranger, and soloing minitours/trolls with a trapping build using oath shot on recharge. Great video, loved watching it

Well, after a few tries I finally got it. At first, the problem was just getting there--especially where the Shadow and Skeleton mobs are next to eachother. Your "running to the forest" video set me straight and now I have no trouble.
The second problem was after running past the bridge--sometimes they wouldn't break aggro until after two spiders had already popped out and I didn't know what to do then.
Like most other solo experiences: practice makes perfect.
Thanks for the build and the video! This is the most reliable xp and loot income I have come across. Now when I'm in a solo mood, there's excitement again!
edit: Oh yeah, I only use Drago's Sundering Flatbow. I was using the -2 longbow or Elswyth's Poisoning Longbow but inexplicably they don't have the same range as the flatbow. Although all data suggests otherwise, the flatbow does in fact have a much better range than the longbow. You can test this yourself simply by switching to a longbow when you've already fired a fire shots with Drago's at the first Shepherds. It's possible that the slightly uneven terrain and different arcs are factoring in.
I'm too squeamish to try the shortbow technique on the Spiders. I bring two out too often.

This used to happen to me a few times, I would just keep running till i reached the wall(near where your run would normall end), check for spider 1st, before clearing the 2 spirit woods, and just continue the run, expect this time I would work backwards, for the end point and clear my way back to the bridge.
PS If you run far enough left from the bridge(well i think its left), and reach the wall, you should be safe from the 3 shepherds and woods that patrol that area

If you happen to lure 2 spider out at the same time, just run away. Now if they aren't right next to each other, you can easy lure 1 away. Just equip yuor drago's bow(longbow or flatbow), and get within firing range of it, and posion it. Let it use healing spring and apply posion, and then slow back up away, firing at it a few time so it don't run back to its spawning place, When you think you have pulled it far enough, just switch over to your shortbow, and KILL IT!!! Might take you a few trys to pull it away though
