Default Is GWEN doomed to sell, sales wise?

Seriously, look at the games that are coming out in august:

Stuntman, Blue Dragon, Warhawk, Stranglehold(the john woo game), Metroid Prime 3, Bioshock(I know allot of people are waiting on that), and of all freaking crap... freaking NFL Madden 08

Couldnt Anet find a better month to release GWEN in? Seriously, it will hurt GWENs sale.

No it won't. Since GWEN is an expansion, all the loyal GW players will get GWEN and put the others on the back burner.

Folks at anet beg to differ.

I'm getting GW:EN and all those other games can wait. Why? Because playing bioshock now will be the same as playing it in 3 months time (actually maybe better in 3 months time since game devs loooove to release buggy games now)

Playing GWEN when it goes live is better than playing far into the future as the rare drops you get have greater value and only decrease as time rumbles on.

Guild Wars made $8.9mil last quarter alone (compare to CoH/CoV at $6.9mil, and that's with a monthly fee). Not bad for an off quarter with no new products...

EDIT: Thought I'd add my source so I don't get info-sniped:

Am I the only one who doesn't understand the thread title? Doomed to sell? Isn't that a good thing?

CoH/CoV isn't exactly THE number one MMORPG.

Yeah.... and?

I was showing they are doing well, not they are top dawgs. Hell, they're doing exceptionally well if you also consider this is Arenanet's first game. I'm sure if you compare it to the first Warcraft game (Blizzard's first "hit"), they're kicking ass!

Anet are doing VERY well considering that this is the company's first game. The first game they released was my favorite game ever.

No, I doubt many PvPers will buy it, but I doubt it's doomed to fail.

Not that it matters but I'm interested in how the constant "splitting the communtiy in two and ultimately pissing off one of the two halves at a time" business model works out, and i'm not talking about PVE/PVP here but the habit to constantly make changes that have a guarantee to shoo players away.
I'm interested in seeing how long that works out.

Nearly all of the titles you mentioned are not PC games... GW:EN is, that, coupled with the fact that none of the games you mentioned are even remotely in the same genre, only shows that releasing GW:EN in August is a good idea: there is no direct competition!

Besides: the release list of the months after August is infinitely more impressive and actually could endanger the sales figures for GW:EN if it were to be postponed. Not to mention the fact that many games to be released around that time actually would count as direct competition for GW:EN. (Hellgate: London, The Witcher, the NWN2 expansion, Gods & Heroes, Chronicles of Spellborn, etc.)

Single player games can wait.

Almost every single PvE lover will get it as soon as possible.

Lol, you act like GWEN's sales could actually have been good.

If nothing was being released this month, this game wouldn't sell.

Cool, love PVE but realized that Bioshock is atleast a hundred times better than this game will be and that goes double for Metroid.

This game is single player anyway, you do everything with heroes and talk to a couple people...

Many will buy this game and Anet has done a good job marketing it. Since they have announced GW:EN they gave us alot of articles on it as well as some really nice trailers not to mention the Return to Tyria Sweepstakes.
All good stuff and I can't wait for the release.

Only if you choose too. Personally I'll be playing gw:en the day of release with an all alliance team.

How does the genre come into this? We're just talking about sales figures for games, period.

Aight.

That's cool.

"Bioshock - spiritual successor to System Shock". AND made by the same company. I'm sold.

I feel like every outpost is a chatroom, like in Diablo.

I'm definitely buying it. I don't care what figures are thrown at me about who buys what, what game is supposedly better and what sells better. I'm buying this for me.

Genre of games mentioned will play an important role. If you don't like the genre of the games listed as competition to gw:en sales then your not going to purchase one of those over gw:en.
