It seems to me that all the maps are down in Livingstons post. Is this just a personal problem or have they been removed?

You will need to explore most of the competitive missions, but it may be possible to skip Quarry if you hit nearly every other spot possible. I'm sure that since getting my 100% that I have cleared enough new spots to have .4-.5%, which is about how much you get from the Quarry. If you have the monastery overlook, which all current cartographers should have now, as it was just reopened this weekend, then you definitely don't have to have the Quarry.
Its up to you. Go through the trouble of getting into the Quarry or go through the trouble of finding absolutely every other spot you can possibly get on the map, or at least nearly every one.

Yeah, I'm a cheapskate. I have yet to see failure with the health solution when the difference between the players is around 150 hp or more, but maybe I've been lucky.
Anyway, what kind of tests did you do? Something with different ALs and health points? Any other factors?
|
I agree. It doesn't hurt to try taking off +HP items if you have someone who can go in with you. However, as I said my solution is the only one that I have seen work without fail.
I haven't done any formal tests so to speak, but since posting the offer on this thread, I have helped 6 different people get banished by Shiro. 3 of them had already taken my advice and got the armor. They were banished immediately and the only problem they had was figuring out exactly where they had to explore, and a couple of ones that forgot that they needed to change back into normal armor so they wouldn't get torched by the spirits.
The other 3 didn't have the armor to start with, but ended up having to get it to accomplish it in the end. I was using my fully speced warrior with 15K armor, no negative HP runes, and wielding +HP items to give myself a larger buffer between them. I can't remember the exact numbers as I wasn't doing formal tests (though I may do so in the future), but all 3 were more than 150 HP below me. One was a Warrior, one was a Ranger, and one was a Ritualist. The first two didn't surprise me as they are stronger classes (physically), but I couldn't make sense of the Ritualist, because I thought that Shiro would always banish a frail spell caster before a beefed up warrior. We tried everything we could think of to make them "weaker," even having them go in with no armor at all. It didn't matter. But as soon as they got the armor, they were banished immediately.
I will add a bit about trying a couple different things first, but really considering how much money is involved in some of the other titles, I don't really think people will have a problem with spending 500 (without helm)-625g to clear the area without having to muck around.
I may fully test this though if I can find the time.

The server was probably down for a bit. It happens to them all. Should be right now.

I'll see how I'm doing by the end of the week, but I'm 97.4% atm and I've done the edge walking on all but 2 maps. I know I'm missing a piece up on Raisu but it is only a small bit. FYI, I only got 0.6% from the Monastry Overlook. I'm sure I got 0.8% with my ritualist upon start up, but I walked it pretty thoroughly :S

I imagine that's because with your Ritualist you would have also uncovered a bit of the areas around the overlook, giving you a bit more %, where as with the character that went back and got it, you would have already uncovered a bit of the monestary areas from the outside. That could easily make the difference of .2%

Not all professions have Runes that cost 100g. The cheapest Monk Runes were at ~3.2k when I checked earlier today. Buy a few of those and you're broke if you're a new player. Since Grandmaster Cartographer is not a money title, we should try to avoid any extra costs if possible. This is more about principles than money.

If you're a new player you "shouldn't" be at Shiro trying to get banished. However, I wouldn't want to pay 12-15k either for it, but I imagine for monks the major runes would work just as well, and they are 100g.
It's fine if you don't want to do something on principle, more power to you, but my guide is based on what works, and I've yet to see a better, consistent method. Give me one and I'll be more than happy to put it up.

It doesn't take long to map Cantha... alright, let's say "the casual player" if that's better. About the Major Runes, they don't make much difference compared to the health solution so wouldn't recommend them without testing. I'm saying this as if someone would ask an advice from me how to get banished.

By all means I'm not saying your solution is bad and should be replaced. What I want to see is an altenative methods so the player has a choice.
"The health solution works most of the time, but not always... blah blah blah... how to do it... blah blah blah."
"The Livingston's solution is guaranteed to work, but you'll have to buy some stuff for it... blah blah blah... how to do it... blah blah blah."
And so on.

I honestly don't think Sanctum is that big of a deal. You can practically spend an hour there by avoiding shiro if you go in with one guildy or friend and get bashed countless times over. I don't think anyone should have to buy armor, just grab a buddy and go in. Sooner or later you'll get banished. Miss Puddles and I got banished around 10 times just the 2 of us. Her ranger and my monk although as a monk i got more of the banishment, she still managed to get her share enough for GMC.

I did say the following a few posts up:
"I will add a bit about trying a couple different things first"
I hadn't done so yet, as I didn't have time to do so, and because I wanted to see the result of our conversation first, in case a better way did come up, in which case I would have had to change it again.
As of now I have updated the guide and I believe all viable options have now been covered, including the new one from gabrial heart.
As always, let me know if there is anything else I can do to improve the guide, and thank you for your suggestions.

Thanks for the guide & maps (the ones on post 2 were especially handy for comparisons, since they weren't nasty sized files that ate my system resources).

Jade is about 0.5% - 0.6% so total for both is around 1%.
Don't forget the other challenge missions either.

Thanks to Livingston and this thread, I now have 100% and the GMC title for Cantha. Now to work on Tyria (my main char is Canthan). Is there a thread as good as this one for Tyria?
PS: How do you get the green name and title window for the pics?
