Finnaly made it thanks to the efforts of Tommarrow who dedicated his time to chack my map, as he did with others.
Tommarrow thank you very much indeed as I could not have done it without your help.
On a similar note, I would like to suggest to the moderators that there should be a moderated forum section in recognition for people who through their efforts help other players.
Just a thought, as appreciations for work like Dougal Kronik (tyria cartography) Tommarrow and I am sure many others who have helped the people here without recieving any rewards, when posted in the appropiate thread (like this thank you I am submitting) get lost within the thread itself and in time loose its value.
WOHOOO!!!

Just a quick shout to say thanks to Livingston. Your advice on common missed spots helped me find the last bit that I needed!
So what to do after you have all three GMCs? Skill hunting maybe?
To all those who are busy with this title, goodluck Keep your cool (not loosing it like me and getting killed because of it) and just go for it!

I just got my Elonian Grandmaster Cartographer title last night! I went through and wall hugged every single area and got it partway into my last one, Lahtenda Bog, which I had originally skipped cause I got bored of mapping Istan. This is the first time I ever went for Cartographer title. I did it all by myself too Thanks for all the wall hugging tips! I'm off for the Tyrian one next. Got 81% on that already.

Vahoo!!
Thanks again to Tommarrow. You got me from 98.2% to 99.5%. After that I just took numberous screen shots to grab the one with the clouds as close as possible to the map in the OP. Well, having completed that, I think i'm going to be taking a break from GW for the next little while.
Cheers,
Countess

With regards to the 3 maps on the 1st page (1440x900,1024x768 and 1280x1024).
A few questions.
i) Have they been updated since the thread was created? ie, has the author explored further? or did they do the minimum to get 100% then stop?
ii) Were they created by an Elonian or a foreign character?
iii) are they just the same map with changed resolution? or 3 different maps?
cheers

Good questions:
I) They have been updated since the thread was created, but not for a very long time. I believe they either did the minimum or just a little bit more.
II) I believe they were created by a foreign character.
III) I am pretty sure that they are all the same map at different resolutions.
I believe the maps came from Silent Vex, though it is possible they are from one of the other guys who got their title early on.
Since the maps are not mine and it has been months since I put them up I am only going by what I remember.
I was in no rush to get the title myself as I like to enjoy the game in its fullest and solo whatever I can, before using Hench/Heroes. So it was a long time before I actually got the title myself.
I am currently working on a "perfect" map though, and I plan on updating all of them once this is complete.

Made it on my main character
I finally got Elonian GMC on my main character. I've done it before on my dervish, who is very much a close 2nd favorite, since I wanted to go through Nightfall with a native character first.
As for the above questions about the maps: It does appear to be by a foreign character because the starter areas don't light up on my ranger. While the map isn't perfect, it does seem to be well edged. Most of the missed spots I've noticed are interior ones.

A friend told me that, there was a perception on this thread that watching the end game cut scene in Elona increases your percentage in Elonian Cartographer... Is this perception still true on this thread?
I have searched near the end and the beginning and have not found it. So, is there anyone familiar with the thread who can confirm if this claim is still being made or not? Because I have evidence to the contrary, but I don't want to bother you all if it has already been settled.

I've never heard of anybody claiming that, and it doesn't really make sense.

The one thing I do know is once you have finished the game you have access to a very small area in Chantry of Secrets that could give you 0.1%.
I heard of the end cut scene thing but I have not seen any proof of this. As far as I know the only place the cut scene helps with your GMC is in Cantha.

Ok, well, here's the proof in case anyone brings it up in the future...
This is a screen shot at the Throne of Secrets, showing the explored perecentage at 58.5%, this was my mesmer's first time ever doin this:
This is a screenshot at the Chantry (to prove she DID finish the game), and you'll have to take my word that I did watch the cutscene... No change, 58.5%:

The entrance location to Domain of Anguish (in Chantry of Secrets) earned me another 0.1%, so it IS possible, depending on the other 0.05% you have uncovered before. I can surely confirm that. Stuck at 99.4%, but I won't get help, trying to enjoy it and find it fully. Adds more excitement to when I get 100%

More than likely you only get 0.3% from it. Thus the people who have .07% or more of their next .1% will see the switch to the next % point, where as other people won't.

Thanks :D
I just wanted to say thanks for the guide and most especially for the commonly missed spots map. I had got to 99.8% on my own but was stuck on the last .2%. It was hiding in 2 of the areas on the missed spot map and it saved me many hours re-mapping the whole thing just going round those areas first.
Also MASSIVE thanks to Rose of Thanatos who I met in-game, for pointing me in the direction of this thread and generally being very nice
