Stupid question - is it possible for a character to get 100% exploration if they are level 20 and cannot access the Ascalon and Shiverpeak Arenas anymore?

Yes, the 100% is not a true 100%. Not having those arenas just means you have to be a bit more... persistent in defogging your world map.

Guys....
I don't mean to be rude, but I'm sure Luxa would rather be playing than helping every single person get their GMC title.
The fun of this title is finding the spots you missed! I did the whole 100% without any maps but my own, and I am very glad I did.
So, I vote for more persistence in regards to this title. Having Luxa run a comparison map for everyone isn't possible, and it somewhat defeats the purpose of the title....Cartographer? Find the spots yourself.
I'm not being an elitist, I'll be glad to look at someone elses map and say where I think they are missing stuff, but that last .5% can be a bitch..... and it's your bitch to earn.

Looks like i got help with my last 1.5% just in time
I would've thought by now that there would be enough information in this thread and the 1 in Community Works or anyone to find the last few pieces, just read the posts to find out what people missed and use your sodding eyes to compare the maps! I spent ages going over my map and the 100% zoomed in version to get to 98.5% Even then i'd missed really obvious things that were all clearly explained in some posts a-way back. Just look for them and give Luxa a break!

besides, i'm sure everyone can make their own difference map. i think GIMP (free, open-source image editor) might even have that option. but more power to LuxA for helping the community.
meanwhile... a quick question:
After completing THK, i went outside and hugged every inch of the area outside. But yet a difference map comparison shows that there is still yet more area that I can uncover (on the edges). Is there some trick to this?
If you don't know what i mean, this is the post I made with my difference map. Check around the THK and Dunes bonus areas.

I have seen maps where this corner is revealed, so there must be a way in there.

I duno if anyone responded to you about this but there is a trick to it... if you look you will see that the draw bridge is up.. however you can walk on air and throu the bridge.

I've haven't had the time to do comparisons, I'll get around to it soon.
And I should say, I don't really see "finding that last elusive speck of fog" as part of the earning the cartographer title. I think you should earn it by simply exploring the world, and not be punished for missing a tiny crack in the wall or by not hugging the cliffs closely enough.
But with that said, yes it would be best if everyone made the comparisons themselves, but if for some reason you can't do it (lacking the programs and such), I'm willing to help out. I use Photoshop by the way, and if anyone wants a quick tutorial (it's really easy), let me know and I'll put one up.

Luxa,
Could you please put up a quick tutorial. And maybe link the 100% map that you use as well. 97.8% and have had to resort to edging.
Thanks.

hmmm ... well, I'm at 91.7% and I think I have hit a snag. With this particular character I never visited the pvp arenas. They are now removed from most places and those that aren't have a level restriction. Is it possible that the removed arenas still count against the total area? And I assume there is no way to enter the Ascalon Arena post level 10. Does it also count against the total?

They count, but are not a requirement for reaching 100%. You just have to be extra careful on all of the PvE zones.

search doesnt always work.....and for those of us who dont have imageshack posting a good 100% zoom-in-able map here would be nice (no I am NOT allowed to download imageshak on my computer since my husband wont allow it--its HIS computer)...and the one on the first page is not completely 100% either.

Difference Map Tutorial
You'll need:
- Photoshop (any version will do)
- A 100% uncovered map:
1024x768 (thanks to Asrial)
1280x1024 (thanks to Leighwyn)
1) Take a screenshot of your zoomed-out map in Guild Wars. Be sure to press Shift+Printscreen to remove all icons.
2) Open up Photoshop and load in both the 100% map (link above) and your current map (found in your Guild Wars\Screens folder). (picture)
3) If your map is at a different resolution to either of the 100% maps, you'll need to resize it.To do this, go to Image -> Image Size..., make sure Constrain Proportions is checked, and type in 768 for the height. Click OK (picture). Go to Image -> Canvas Size..., click the centre square, make sure Relative is unchecked, and type in 1024 for the width. Now your map should line up perfectly with the 100% map. (picture)
(note: this step assumes you're using the 1024x768 map as reference)
4) We're done with your map. Press CTRL+A to select your entire image, CTRL+C to copy, move over to the window with the 100% map (you did have both maps open in Photoshop, right?) and press CTRL+V to paste. In the Layers box down at the bottom right, you should see two layers - the 100% map at the bottom and your map above that. (picture)
5) Now we'll compare the differences. In that same Layers box, you'll see a dropdown menu saying "Normal." Click on it, and select "Difference." Before doing this, make sure you have your layer with your map selected (by default it's called Layer 1). (picture)
6) You should now have a difference map, consisting of mostly blacks and little spots of colour. Dark areas denotes places which are the same in both maps (i.e. places you've uncovered), and bright areas shows the places which are different (i.e. places you haven't uncovered). (picture)
7) If you want to check on any area manually, just go to the dropdown menu again (in the Layers box) and select "Normal." In the same Layers box, you'll see an eye to the left of your layers. Clicking it will turn your layer invisible, and clicking it again will make your layer reappear. Just zoom in on the area you want to inspect, and click the eye over and over again in quick succession. This will toggle your map on and off and will allow you to see exactly where the difference is. (picture)
A note about the 100% map. There are a couple of uncovered areas I know of:
- Dunes of Despair bonus area
- A spot in Tangle Root, just west of Henge of Denravi
- North-west corner of Mineral Springs
If those areas show up as bright spots in your difference map, do a manual comparison described in step 7.
There ya go. If GIMP is anything like Photoshop, the steps won't be too different. The important things are: Resizing/cropping (if necessary), layering your map on the 100% map and setting the Blending Mode (as it's called in Photoshop) to Difference.
Let me know if you need help with anything (not GIMP though, I'm clueless about that!).
Edit: Added some pictures!
Edit2: Link to a 1280x1024 map (hope ya don't mind, Leighwyn )

Working on that danged Dunes bonus area. A primary Monk just is NOT a good option for it.
Are you saying that I'm missing the other two spots? Can you post a crop of my current map, of those two sections? I'll go uncover them and update the pic.

Ascalon and Maguuma parts are quite hard to see. On my LCD, it helps when I look from an angle, then the different parts come out more clear. First when I compared the maps, I thought I had Ascalon fully cleared, but after looking closer, I found about 1% worth fog spots.
