A few more newbie questions
Good morning,
I'd like to thank everyone who have offered answers and advice on my previous threads questions. I am now level 16, and made it to Lion's Arch last night. I have two questions:
1) I have not found any better armor options since Ascalon City. The three kinds I get offered are Elementalist, Iceforged and Flameforged. Does this mean that those are the best I can ever get based on my class (E/N)? If that is true, do I need all of the crafting components that I have been hoarding since I started the game? If I don't need them, I'll dump them for the gold.
2) I haven't yet bought a lockpick. Is a lockpick one-use like a key, or does it last forever? If I buy one, will I ever need to buy or use keys again?
3) Is there a board or place I can list some cheaper (low-level) items? All I ever see people selling are high-level expensive stuff. I have accumulated various weapon upgrade components and stuff that other "low level" characters or newer players like me could use and that I won't ever need.
Thanks,
James

Hey dude, stick at it ^^
1. No, if your an elementalist your maximum armour is 60AL. You can get access to this later in the game, once your reach Droknors Forge ^^ If you hold onto your materials is entirley up to you
2. Lockpicks are for use in Hard Mode once you have completed the game. HOWEVER you can use them in normal mode on any chest where they have a chance to break when used but you also have a chance to retain them, but I would save any lockpicks until later in the game where the drops will be worth more and therefore worth the gamble.
3. Its very hard to find low level weapons in the trade window or in auctions, however you might want to check out the link below for freebies that people are giving away. You might find something that suits you ^^

Hope this helps James ^^

Hi James
1. Look at the armour on this page: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Elementalist_armor
Decide which one you want and then look at where you can craft it and what materials you need - then you know which mats to hoard and which to dump for space/gold.
2. Don't buy a lockpick yet. They are needed to open Hard Mode chests, but in Normal Mode they are a waste. Keys at the levels you are at are far cheaper for opening chests. Get lockpicks later when you can access Hard Mode and want to open chests there. They don't last forever, and at your level of titles, will stand a high chance of breaking even in Normal Mode.
3. Unless you personally have a use for the low level weapons and upgrades you have found, just sell them the Merchant.
Good Luck and I hope this helps.

Thanks guys. I checked out the armor info on GWW, and sold off all of the stuff I didn't need. Spent some time doing quests this evening, made another level. I kept the stuff I'll need to make the Elementalist armor later in the game.
Thanks,
James

As far as the low lvl weapons, the best place to sell them in proph would be back in Ascalon City, or just merc them as suggested above.
I would suggest not waisting your money on lockpicks at all btw. Just not worth it imo, the market is so bad now you can buy max golds for less than the price of lockpicks, or regular keys for that matter, just not worth your cash early on. By the time you get to droks forge you want around 10k so yeah keep the materials you need for it, and merc the other junk.
on a side note, just hearing someone talking about thier first time going through proph makes me reminisce... *daydreams*... *walks into tree* XP

Very good times xD
I would not worry too much about lockpicks at the moment until you want to start chest running or something in Hard mode. If youre going to buy keys, buy the regular ones relative to the region youre in, its cheaper than lockpicks.

In Lion's Arch, the armor isn't better then in Ascalon City. Better armor comes in Beetletun (Kryta) and from the Maguuma Jungle on. The best armor is in Droknar's Forge. If you have got Factions as well. You can get a ship to Kaineng Center, where you can also get the strongest armor (60 AR for Elementalist)
Lockpicks are pretty expansive and primeraly used in Hard Mode. If you want to unlock chests buy keys corresponding to the region you want to unlock a chest. There might be a little confusion in the names of the keys the first time. Like Steel Chests (Northern Shiverpeaks) or Elonian Chests (Crystal Desert).
Try low-level area's in Tyria, like Ascalon City, where new players get in. Here I found some nice trades.

i had the same confusion with the armor when i started playing. no one mentioned that the difference is really about armor level early on, then later about looks.

Good advice all ^^^
Just wanted to say something about keys in general as relates to titles. If you have already asked about this and gotten the answer, I'm sorry for repeating it. If you are interested in the Treasure Hunter Title, then IMO I wouldn't even look at keys that cost less than 600 gold. You begin getting credit for the TH title at the 600g key areas. And tbh while those area chests don't usually drop great stuff, they *are* the cheapest way to level the TH title.
Good luck! and Gratz on your arrival at LA!!
