Has Polymock been nerfed?
I don't know what crack the guy who made Polymock was on. But yeah, it's pretty much impossible. I can't beat Fonk, even with a Ruby Djinn piece that I bought. AFAIK he has 2 purple pieces and 1 gold, so how the hell does Anet expect people to beat him with 1 purple and 2 grays?
Can you use 3 golds against the midgets while doing the quests?
If not, how do you beat them? Because I can't.

If it was made harder wouldn't that mean it was buffed, technically speaking? Anyway, I found it hard enough to begin with that I ignored it. I feel bad that you bought a good polymock piece thinking it was going to help you just to find that it's harder or something.
If anything, they should make it easier.

I tend to relegate the term "buff" to something that helps the player, while "nerf" is something that makes it harder on the player.
If it's possible, I'm going to buy 2 more gold pieces, and roast those arrogant midgets into oblivion and back again... Is it?

I had a LOT of trouble with Polymock--so much so that I nearly forgot about it.
Determined to beat it out of a sense of completion, I finally sat down and combed the forums/wikis until I figured out how to get the rythm down.
Addmittedly, the Polymock pages on Wiki have some terrible advice--in those cases I tried to use suggestions from the talk pages
There was a small thread here on Guru that helped me tremendously, specifically a post by Washi on this thread:

Hope that helps. I did finally beat the entire chain of quests with the above pattern, without buying any extra polymock pieces.

If the OP is using Ruby Djinn Polymock (gold) + 2 white pieces and still failing, it means that skill is an issue. So following Washi's advice is logical.
If you got the money, buy two other gold pieces, but I bet they might be somewhat difficult to find. Check out guru auctions if they got any.
My basic strategy was to buy the ruby piece and win the first few easy polymock games. Those rewarded the purple pieces which where then combined with the ruby piece to take out harder opponents. I beated the final polymock opponent still with 1 gold+2 purple pieces, so I know it can be done, just requires some skill.
Also, make sure you play the opponents in order of strength.
Go go... roast the midgets to oblivion, lol

Polymock isn't terribly hard. Just follow the pattern listed above, and you'll get through it.
To me, Polymock is just horribly boring. So I played it just far enough to get a summon, then I quit. =P

If you do buy another piece, I used a Wind Rider off my guildies. They are awesome.

Learn to play, a little practice goes a long way. I had a very tough time on one of the earlier guys, took a break from it for a couple days and when I gave it another go it was easy when you use the right skills at the right time. Use the wiki as a reference for what pieces to use.

I find Polymock no fun at all... but I wanted the asura summoning skills. So, after taking ages to beat the first opponent, and getting thrashed a few times by my second opponent... I bought a Ruby Djinn piece. With only basic knowledge of Polymock (I suck, truly), I was able to defeat all the Polymock quest opponents in just one attempt each. This was yesterday.
Starting with Ruby Djinn, you should be able to wipe out their first piece with at least (!) half your Djinn's health remaining. Just spam Searing Flames and Glowing Gaze as often as possible... I hardly bothered to dodge, interrupt or block. Your lead after using the Djinn should make it easy to beat every opponent.
Use the purple pieces as you get them. As soon as I had them, I used Ruby Djinn, Earth Ele, Kappa and stuck with those all the way to Hoff.

I don't get why people think this is so hard. I never had a problem with it on 3 characters. BTW I have a gold Fanged Iboga if you want to buy it.

Polymock is somewhat tricky and takes time to get used to. This is my brief guide to Polymock with links to several other guides.

I bought a Stone Rain piece, and now I just trampled everyone. I feel cheap, (well I spent about 50k on Polymock pieces....) but... at least I smashed some midgets.
I doubt I'm going to accept the reward for Defeat Master Hoff, because I don't like the look of tournament rules...

There is the important part, kicking in the faces of those smug Asurans. Thanks to all those who posted guides, perhaps I can then get some nice retribution going on the midgets...

Does anyone know if Lacerate trick still works? I have not tried it myself, but heard that it worked for some people.

It doesn't. Your skillbar is completely wiped when you zone into the map.

Lacerate trick?
Anyways I gave up after fighting the third guy, having his health down to the most minimal silver, having about 1000 or so on my character, then for some kind of lag, I was unable to cast as the Asura just finished me off.
I burnt off all my gold for legendary skill cap, so not really gonna be buying gold pieces any time soon.

I still have my 100% win ratio in polymock. It's really easy. You just have to figure out their patterns. If you can't beat them, then it shows computer AI > your intelligence...which is depressing.

http://www.research.ibm.com/deepblue/ Depressing, huh?
To be fair, Chess =/= Polymock, and GW AI =/= Deep Blue. Winning at Polymock just requires simple pattern recognition like you said.
