Take some shutdown for him. I had a Mesmer friend of mine running, I believe, Migrane and a few interrupts, coupled with a ranger hero running a couple of interrupts.
Careful flagging and a wall of minions prevented lots of the damage as well.

found a MM and BHA ranger works wonders here!
Just fire off into boss and let the minions whack away - quivering blade plague touch warrior is also a nice idea here! extra daze / anything that can interupt is perfect for any caster boss! - BTW have fun ^^

I run a sabway variant and I run Moebius Blossom on myself when I vanquish. If I ever come against hard hitting bosses, I manually make my hero put Prot Spirit on me while I do the killing. Works pretty well.

That guy was a pain.
I think I was finally able to do it by bringing a bonder hero-back when I vanq'ed Cantha I was big on bonders (it's been so long!).
You could replace one of your paras with a BHA ranger-he can't cast anything if he's dazed
Also consider Protective Spirit.

Basically what they said. I used a ranger interrupter, bonder, and also used my tank (poor brave koss) to flag him in and let him eat the first couple spells then let the rest of us charge in while those spells were recharging.

I finally finished my Canthan Vanquisher, after taking numerous breaks and working on it for months
To answer your question, Shelter ftw.
Protective spirits are very handy in HM, especially shelter. Although it won't last long, it will give you enough time to daze the boss without your party being annihilated.

Tin Dao Kaineng is easily the hardest part of vanquishing Shing Jea island, and one of the hardest in all of Cantha. What I had to do (before GW:EN skills came out) was flag my whole party out of range of him, manually have a hero cast Protective Spirit on me, and hope that I absorbed most of the nasty spells before bringing my guys in.
Took a few tries to pull it off successfully, but once I finally did, he went down pretty easily. If you have access to GW:EN, though, Pain Inverter would fry this guy so fast.

some form of daze or something like pain inverter would work well. with your set-up you have good party healing (from what I'm assuming you are running on the heroes) and DPS output, but very little in damage reduction, I recall I was able to pull a few guys away from around him (don't recall how many), so maybe try that as well.

For that zone, you can go with the triple necro build, and micro the prot spirit on you to initially draw boss aggro.

Protective Spirit > Tin Dao.
He's one of my favourite bosses.
Personally I used a Shelter Ritualist when I did it way back, but it's all the same sort of thing...
