Handbook question: obtaining pages
Hi. I did search for this, and have looked at the relevant discussion pages on the official and wikia wikis, but it's still unclear to me. Hoping someone can enlighten me.
I've just completed EotN on my Ele (first time on this char). I'd totally forgotten about the handbooks until someone reminded me after I'd mentioned completing it. So, I went to the nearest town (EotN), and picked up a book from Gedrel, assuming I could get every single missing page filled in. This is the first handbook this char has ever had.
However he's only filled in three pages, and I am still missing all of the Northern Allies pages, all the Knowledgeable Asura pages, and two of the three Charr pages. The three that have been filled out are three that I did today ('Against The Charr' - which I re-took in order to cap a skill, Destruction's Depths and A Time For Heroes).
I went to the Asuran and Norn book people, but they don't want to fill my missing pages in either, despite me having completed the quests, and never having handed in a book before.
Is this correct? Have I just got to do them again, this time with the book on me? I don't really get why I can get pages for the quests I've completed today, but not for anything else.
Confused!

you'll need to do them again with the book in your inventory (same thing with the dungeon ones)
there's some already filled in when you first get the book.

You should still get credit for them. If you talk to a guy that gives you the books and say "look at my book" they should say "oh noes! You have 7 missing pages! Pay me 5k to get them!" And you pay and then go on your way.. im not sure how much gold per page, but they add up.
You do not need to have your handbook with you when you do a quest. You just need to HAVE one. IE: It can be in your storage. If you dont have one at all, then you need to redo the quests. Sorry.
Hope I helpped

Each page costs 100g to add if you missed it. The NPCs can be found in the main towns of each race. Like the Storyteller in Gunnar's hold for example.

Here's the timeline of events:
1. Re-took 'Against The Charr' sometime in the afternoon in order to cap an elite. This was the second time I had completed it on this char.
2. Came back online in the evening, completed 'Destruction's Depths' and 'A Time For Heroes' for the first time on this char.
3. Got my Droknar's Key etc.
4. Did some quests from Alkar ('Destructive Research' etc).
5. Realised I had no Handbook! Mapped to EotN, picked up the first Handbook this char has ever owned, as per my original post.
6. Everything I did in steps 1. and 2. of this list has been filled in by Gedrel, costing 100g each (300g total) - despite not having had the book (or any book) on me when I completed them. All other pages are missing and there is no option to buy them.
And this is the bit I don't get - which of these two is it:
If you need the book on you/in your storage/just to exist somewhere in order to get the pages - why give me those three? I had no book when I completed them.
If you don't need the book on you/in storage/just to exist somewhere - why not give me all the pages?

You DO actually need the book on you to have them written in your book if you don't want to pay. I regularly have multiple books and so I keep the ones I'm not currently using in my storage and they don't get updated. If you forgot your heroe's handbook, they will fill in the quests for a cost, but from what I understand they will only do this the first time you complete it, after that you'd have to restart the quest. The quests that are already filled out when you get the book are the primary quests that involve going between different NPCs because they are not repeatable.

Isn't there some sort of account limit on buying pages though?
I bought several pages for my warrior so I could turn in my books, and when I did all the missions on my paragon, I went back to try to do the same thing and it didn't let me.
I'm not 100% on this though, but it might be part of your problem.

Once you beat the entire storyline, any future books you request will always have pages 1, 2, 6, 10 and 14 filled out already, because they are not repeatable. If you have a book that you obtained before beating the game, you can go to the different storytellers and have certain pages (not sure which) out for a price. Otherwise, to fill out the remaining pages, you need to redo those quests with the book in your inventory. Hope this helps.

handbook
I have a plan, untested as of yet, but a great way to fill in the pages to receive the greatest amount of faction possible. I repeat, untested, not sure if it's legal. but if this works you can max out all the titles almost in one time, 2 times, one NM, one HM. the idea is to take not one handbook, but up to 16. I have already determined that it is possible to hold 16 at the same time. You only have to put the one you have in your inventory into your storage, then get a new one, repeat until you have 16, or more if you don't want to fill in the entire book. if you fill in 8 pages and turn in all 16 that is 32000 reputation points. if you fill in all 16 pages and turn in 4 to each reputation person, that's 80000 reputation, instant rank 8, (160000x4) experience points, and (4x16000) gold. and that's just NM. the only problem is having to take all the handbooks with you when you do the quests. which means you get less inventory space.
If anyone tries this system, please tell me, i'd be happy to here how it turns out. IGN is Advid Alucard

I'm 99% sure that doing a mission will only fill the first book in your inventory. Nice try though.

as some of you have already found out, yes the handbook only fills in the page to the first book, not all of them. it was a good try though
