First off, let me say that i'm a relative newbie to Guild Wars. Some readers here will probably tell me to continue through all the missions. However, I've been playing my one character for about 4 hours total and can't help but be frustrated at the progress i've made. My other character i've been playing for around 8 hours and I'm on the first mission: the great northern wall. I don't usually play for long periods so when i leave the game, i lose some progress and must restart. Looking through the wiki, there are 25 missions and i haven't made it past the first one, the Great Northern Wall.

I've only bought the Platinum Edition: Prophecies and EotN...however, seeing how slow prophecies is playing out, i'm tempted to go buy factions hearing how fast it is, but i'd really like to avoid shelling out an extra $30 for something i don't really need.

With all that in mind, i've heard that it is possible to skip most of the missions in prophecies. Can someone explain this for me? For all of you who are creating new characters, how do you go about leveling so that you're not replaying the game over and over again?

once you get out of pre searing you will level up faster, but enjoy the game, whats the hurry? I've been playing for 2.5 years and still haven't finished all the stuff to do.

You can pay those people who are advertising runs to Yak's Bend, and then the runs to Beacon's Perch, and then to Lion's Arch/Droknar's Forge. Then at Lion's Arch (LA) you can get to EotN and level via dwarven boxing. But if it is your first time, I'd advise against it.

I did say that I would advise against it. And some people just don't want to go through the story. I guess if that is what he really wants, he has that option.

If you don't care about the story, get to LA with a run (or just fight your way there). Fight with the high level henchies till you get lvl10 then go to EoTN. Since you get buffed, you can just play through EoTN normally. Much less boring than boxing over and over. Plus you'll also learn something about builds and how to play just by watching the builds that the opponents run (they have far better skillsets than the enemies you'll meet in prophecies). You should be able to get max level about half way through playing gwen. Course, you'd have no skills, and your heroes would probably be barely better than a hench.

Don't buy Factions yet. Finish Prophecy and EoTN first.

Generally, you don't need to be at level 20 (max level). If you keep playing the game, you will be able to reach level 20 by just doing the missions and quests. But if you really think it is necessary to be high level, try doing this.

1.) Do all the quests in pre-searing. You will make it to level 7-8 in a matter of 2-3 hours.

2.) Do all the quests in post ascalon and nearby outpost for additional skills. You should be able to make it to level 10.

3.) If you are still in Ascalon, ask someone to run you to Lion's Arch (LA). They probably charge you 2k (2k is hard to find if you are just starting in this game).

4.) When you reach LA, you will be informed that you can do the quest that will bring you to EoTN (this is only available when you are level 10 or higher). While at EoTN, you are buffed to level 20 so do not be afraid being to low while fighting level 20's).

5. After you have done the quest, you will be able to unlock 2 level 20 heroes (Ogden, a Monk and Vekk an Elementalist). At this point in time, you may go back to Prophecies and continue the game with this two heroes (they'll do fine until the Desert Mission).

6. If you really want to make it to level 20 (I assume that you are level 10 at this point in time). You may want to visit Gunnar's Hold (it's not in your map, so it will be good if you try to find a map as you guide). You don't really need t to fight your way here because your main objective is to make it to Gunnar's Hold. But fighting will not be a problem actually.

7. Once you make it to Gunnar's Hold, immediately find Killroy Stonekin and he will give you a quest (Punch the Clown) that will unlock the brawling match that you need (Killroy Stonekin's Punch-Out extravaganza!). During this match, if you get knocked-out, press skill number 8 continuously until your energy is filled-up. You will do fine if you can do that.

8. Once Punch-Out Extravaganza! becomes available, you can do it repeatedly until you reach level 20 (probably 4 to 5 runs, 10 minutes or less per run). Again, do not be afraid to do this because as long you get up when you get knocked down (by presseing skill #8 repeatedly), you will do fine.

So, i guess that's the quickest way to make it to level 20.

Ok, let's see if I can answer some questions:

1) You can't "Lose Progress" by logging off. You will get sent back to the last outpost you were at, but you don't actually lose any progress beyond any you've made on the individual map, but that happens every time you change to a different map anyway. In fact, because of this, you can often complete a quest, and simply map back to town to get your reward, unless there's another quest in the area. Save yourself some time.

2) Prophecies progresses quicker once you start the missions. Unlike most of the other campaigns, many missions drop you directly into the next mission. In fact, you can get through the first 4 missions without exploring much outside of the mission areas.

3) There are many skills you gain along the way in Prophecies, so skipping missions is not a good idea for a new player, nor is simply blindly completing the missions. Explore a little bit. Until you naturally get to Droknar's Forge (Yeah I probably spelled it wrong), there are several quests that give you skills to do.

4) Quests are the fastest way to level up. You get exp, and occasionally gold or item rewards, as well as occasionally skills (in prophecies).

5) Even when you get to level 20, you need to Ascend (This is a mission), and do the 2 +15 Attribute Point quests to max yourself out. These are later in the game.

However,
1) You can skip missions by either finding the next area yourself, or getting "Run". Getting run means you have someone else bring you to the next area (usually by paying them with in game cash). Common runs are from Asceleon to Yak's Bend (Where you get to after mission 4), and/or Lion's Arch (Central city of Prophecies, get there after Mission 7), Yak's Bend to Lion's Arch, Lion's Arch to Sanctum Cay (Mission 14), The desert tour (run to all the locations in the Crystal Desert, which is where missions 15-18 take place) and Beacon's Perch to Droknar's Forge (Place you go after mission 18, and where you can get Max Armor).

2) Getting run means you'll be the same level as you are now, but have higher level opponents to fight. If you are of a lower level, you will be at a significant disadvantage. If you skipped the skill quests, you will need to buy skills, which can get expensive quickly (and skill points will be a limiting factor early on). Items and armor also cost money, which if this is your first character, you will not have a lot of initially.

3) Once you get to Lion's Arch (Either naturally or being run there), and you get to level 10, you can enter the Eye of the North expansion (or if you buy another campaign, you can do a quest to get to those other campaigns, you don't need to be level 10, but one of them pits you against creatures that will either require you to get help or be over 15th), and in that, you can get Heroes (who will help you do missions and quests if you aren't getting player help) and max armor with little trouble, assuming you have the cash (for the armor at least).

Hopefully this helps you a bit.

Basically, I would advise against running with your first character, as you miss out on learning a bit about playing the game, using skills, and what skills work, let alone the money you'll earn, gear you'll pick up, and skills you'll unlock. You'll need to unlock skills for your Heroes you get later, and I think you'll find that the journey is enjoyable. Remember, you aren't racing against anything but yourself and your own expectations.

as your first character and starting in prophecies I advise you to just play the game. prophecies is the only campaign that gives skills as quest rewards, take full advantage of this. do all the quests in the ascalon area, get to outpost that the story line doesnt get you in, Yak's Bend and Grendich Courthouse comes to mind, check maps on guildwiki.org if you're not sure how to get there. do all the quests in those areas too. you will be lvl 10-12 very fast if you just do the quests and kill the monsters around the ascalon area. when you finish the first 4 missions(all in ascalon) you end up in yak's bend. a lot more quests are available there, do them and eventually you end up in the frozen gate. you can than do the missions in the northern shiverpeaks until you reach beacon's perch than do the quest leading to the gates of kryta. do the mission there and you're in Lion's Arch, or LA as everyone calls it. from there you can go to the Eye of the North outpost, as you're already above level 10. pick up the 2 early heroes than, I suggest continuing a bit in the Eye of the North campaign as you are considered a level 20 character even before you're actually level 20. pick up some more heroes and perhaps some PvE only skills from the different areas in Eye of the North. than when you and your top 3 heroes are level 20 go back to prophecies and continue the campaign.
if you really want to take a short cut at this stage, which I dont recommend as its your first character but it's your choice. there are 2 short cuts available at this point:

1. get a run from Lion's Arch Sanctum Cay which opens up the path to the Crystal Desert and Ascension.
2. go back to Beacon's Perch and get a run to Droknar's Forge which is located right after the Crystal Desert and is where most players buy their max armor.

again I recommend NEITHER of this short cuts but it's entirely up to you. keep in mind that there are many quests prior to Droknar's Forge that give you skills as quest rewards. also if you choose to take the run from Beacon's Perch to Droknar's Forge you won't be able to change your secondary profession as it requires being Ascended, the run from Lion's Arch to Sanctum Cay will work for that purpose so if you do choose to take a short cut after all than I advise you to take the Lion's Arch to Sanctum Cay run and get Ascended so you can change your secondary profession.
also, once you change your secondary profession it can be worth while to go back all the way to Ascalon City and complete quests that were unavailable to you as you now have a different secondary profession. these quests will all give you skills as quest rewards, which will save you a lot of money as buying skills can get very costly.

One of the ways to skip about 25% of the prophecies storyline is buy factions, create a factions charachter, and within 3 hours you'll be able to go to prophecies and skip the first 25% of the storyline. You should just take time and enjoy the game though.

DUDE DONT RUSH. play through it. get your moneyeys worth and learn the intrickasies of your character. learn the strenths and weakness vs various tings you will encounter. if you rush to 20 and buy a runner and power level,
you will be lv 20 in a day or 2 and have no clue what to do with it, and deny yourself the gaming expirience. Not only that but the "noob alert" will be flashin over your head if you try to enter a team and done have any skills that go past ascalon, and you will be forced ot hench the whole thing anyhow just to get all the skills. enjoy the game. you payed for it! besides tryia is deigned in such a way that the monsters you encounter will force you to re adjust yourbuild according to the map and thus teach you some kind of skill synergy, and understanding of how to counter skills with other skills. Then by the time you reach level 20 you will have earned it, and have a better idea on what you want to do with your character.

Rather than get fed up as thetime factor think of it this way,

As proficies all quests offer you characters ...free skills including the secondary you chose....

Speed of leveling ...this seems to get some guys when they here a quicker way toi level...these guys myself included use this method to get up quicker as we know ..the storyline...the quest/missions we will face..

A little tip that wont bypass the storyline and get you level up is by

Doing char at the gate over and over.(Pre Sear)..can be level 8 within an hour
do quest then..do not accept reward

just .map travel back to city...abandon quest and then..go get it again from him as its Xp your looking for..

I would reconmend doing the storyline as not only learns you on its gameplay but you will have fun along the way..

Get to lions arch by playing missions/quest.hop over to Eotn your buffed as a level 20 and have some fun there ...jump back when you think you want to and continue on with proficies storyline

Leveling speed is not important. In the beginning you are very slow. It took me a couple of months to reach lvl. 20. But nowadays, it can take me just a week. If you have more money later on, you can immediatly buy the best armour (in Ascalon) and skills you've unlocked and then do all the missions of Ascalon which can be done in 1 day. In the beginning, go exploring, have fun. Don't rush through all the content. Even if you want to level up fast, get a run to L.A. get lvl. 10, go to EotN, and go do some dwarven boxing in Gunnar's Hold. Better armour and health due to Journey in the North effect and a new skill set, ten you'll have lvl. 20 within 2 or 3 hours.

Very important fact to consider: Level doesn't mean much. Sure a Level 20 character is gonna whip the ass of any level 10 character, but at the later parts of the game everyone is level 20. The difference in power is due to the skills each player takes. A level 20 player with a crappy skill set is worthless compared to a level 15 player with a good skill set. Getting to level 20 won't magically let you beat the game.

Also, once you get to Lions Arch about 1/3rd into the game, you will be able to travel to EotN. There you are given a buff if you are <lvl 20, and you can get heroes which will make prophecies much more interesting.

POSSIBLE SPOILER!:

About 2/3rds through the game on the main quest you will finish a mission that gives you 50k xp. At that point everyone after is max level, so there isn't much reason to powerlevel earlier.

You'd be suprised how many people skip that mission by being run to the Droks.

Sorry to disappoint you but Prophecies has by FAR the slowest progress of all the campaigns... only the last 1/4th of the missions are in the max... the rest is a sort of overextended tutorial...

You should have bought Nightfall if you wanted to move to high levels fast.

YYYYICKES.

Guys. First welcome to Guild Wars!!! The name says it all, Guild. Join a guild. They have members that can help you along the way. You can have great fun and do more with a guild than you can not in a guild.

Example. I was a low lvl toon that never died. I asked a guild member to run me to eye of the north outpost- Boreal Station. While I was there I got the MAX ARMOR which is ugly but MAX. I never died and now have Legendary Survivor Title. Then just go outside and kill the SNOW WURMS for 100xp each. That is 1300xp in 10 minutes or so + drops that you can sell. They drop lockpicks that you can sell for 1250 gold as an example (or use them like I do) You do not have to worry about dying only killing them before they go under the ground. In normal mode that is kinda ease even going it alone.

Then get lvl 20, and go back to where you were with max armor and start killing stuff and finishing the missions.

So Join a guild, make some friends or start your own guild and most importantly...Have some fun.
