help - Vanquishing the Desolation
hello
im currently H/H vanquishing elona, 4 areas left,
3 of them in the desolation, while the 5 sandstorm craig/messa groups are annoying, the thing i find most problematic are the undead groups over land, when in the wurm, no challange at all, but over land, very harsh,
im a E/Me SF nuker, and as my heros i take a Avatar of baltazar Derv, a Smite/holy damage monk, and a Haze spreader ranger, i usualy take the 2 hench monks, a illusion and a motivation hench,
any advice or builds that might help me ?

I used Sab's three necro build and it was easy enough except for some areas which were a bit of a pain.
If you can get a friend or guildie to help you out it make s a huge difference.

sabway will make things really alot easier, but now its kinda the cookie cutter. The only thing I can consider (maybe) is popping frozen soil on ur ranger, to prevent the undead from rezzing. If you do that, then you dont have to worry bout the annoying cavaliers w/ sig of return, or the acolites renew.

I always take the same heroes/henchs with me when i do stuff H/H.
You have strange choice of H/H, can you tell me why you choose for those heroes?
I always take my Master of Whispers as Rithealer.
And olias as my ever loyal MM.
Dunkoro as my prot monk, so i can prot myself when i lure mobs.
I am a necro myself, mainly as Spitefull Spirit.
When doing HM i always take Fire and Earth mages where possible.
And a warrior just for Charge.
The last henchmen varies alot.. if i know i will face alot of casters i take some interupting henchy. or another warrior for charge.

Agree with the Frozen soil, but I went E/R so I could control when/where it gets placed more easily. Also, If you use Sab's Necros, Give your healer Lively Was Naomei to rez through Frozen Soil, if needed.
Other than that, try using the terrain to your advantage. I was able to pull many groups around corners so that they would hang up on the corner fighting minions while I could fire away at will.

I used 3 Ray of Judgement smiters and I blew my way through those undead.
You can even go smiter aswel for more boom.
Before aggroing, lock all heros on the monk, or in case there are no monks, a para(they can also res) and forcecast their roj, the mob will blow up.
Just kill any leftovers.

I varied the SS necro a bit in the sabway build for the desolation. I ran this
SS
Insiduous Parasite
Signet of lost souls
Mantra of inscription
Signet of disruption
Signet of humility
signet of disruption
power drain
I split the points between Curses, SR and inspiration and the interupts were great while still getting all the benifits from SS and IP. You do lose a couple nice spells but I found that other then bosses barbs doesn't help THAT much and I didn't see much of a difference without well of darkness. The big loss was deathpact signet but i found I didnt need rezzing all that much. Yes i realize it is a bit overkill on the inteupts but ith all the rezzing in the desolation it makes life a bit easier
The key to the desolation is to do all the areas non-accessable to worms as soon as you can. You tend to build up a lot of DP in worms that you just don't notice until you are out of them. Also like stated above use corners to trap them behind minions.

Consider using [Frozen Soil] to stop the undead groups from ressurecting themselves (especially those pesky Cavaliers).
If you have access to EotN then also consider using Ursan Blessing, alot of people frown on it but if your having problems then it sure should help out.

You don't need a SS or MM or a rit healer, or even fire/earth nukers. SABWAY is a very BAD choice for facing the undead! I go LOL evertime I see people using it in regions containing undead.
It might sound strange, but the undead are best handled by smiting monks, so take 3 smiter monks with you (all your hero slots). The other 4 slots should be 2 henchie monks, and 2 hencie warriors.
Watch the undead fall ... it is quite funny actually. They will fall so fast you won't even need a frozen soil.
The elite to use on your smiting monks is SHIELD OF JUDGMENT. All other skills should be smite hex, reversal od damage, smite condition etc. 16 smite/12 divine. Enjoy!
When facing the earth elementals just spread heroes or cast and cast SOJ on yourself before aggroing. It is really that simple.

Don't forget smiting staves/wands for yourself and your heroes while in Junundu. Holy damage FTW.

QFT. I finally am getting to vanquishing Elona. I used three smiting monks at Poisoned Outcrops and Ruptured Heart. Had both vanquished with very little complication (only party wipe was due to over-aggro). Otherwise, both went without a hitch.
I ran Signet of Judgement smiters, as I was looking for the knockdowns to help as extra interrupts.
