I think that the leaning curve in Kaineng City in general could be better.
For pete sake, it is an imperial city. NOT a warzone!
Why is there random gangs everywhere, ALWAYS attacking me for no freaken reason?
If your character is just casually walking by, it makes no sense fr them to get so monstrous towards your character.

Theres just a couple of things that you need to know about afflicted:
Afflicted ele: deals a crap load of damage so should be dealt with accordingly
Afflicted monk: as dangerous as a newborn puppy
Afflicted ranger: particularly nasty, carries throw dirt and broad head arrow (daze) It's worth it to slot extra condition removal when you play melee.
Afflicted ritualist: They got hard res (flesh of my flesh), can be a b!tch when you're not paying attention, kill them first when you get the chance.
Afflicted warrior: not overly dangerous
Afflicted assassin: not overly dangerous, shadow form can be a PITA though
Afflicted mesmer: meh
Earth hench can be help, since the melee isn't too much of a problem you can use wards to mitigate their damage while you kill the way more annoying rangers/casters. Aegis on a monky is also pretty hot.
The am fah should be cake, they're a big laugh.
Jade brotherhood suck, they have nicely outfitted balanced mobs, hexes don't work because the mesmers carry expel and the knights pressure pretty hard and take quite some time to kill. Their only weakness though is that they don't have enchant removal, so bonds or prots in general can help a great deal. And watch the eles that use dragon stomp to KD your entire team. You might wanna interrupt that when you get the chance or slot ward against elements/ward against harm.

One trick I always use when doing Mayhem in the Market is to complete the first section of the quest (in Waijun Bazaar) normally, then when the quest instructs me to speak to Master Togo in the Undercity I map travel back to the Marketplace and use the Bukdek Byway entrance to the Undercity. There's a half dozen or so small Am Fah mobs along the way instead of numerous mobs and a boss along the route in the Bazaar (Sun the Quivering, if I am not mistaken). Better still, the path in the Undercity from the Bukdek Byway entrance is direct and short. Only caveat is to be very careful around the afflicted Monk boss, as several mobs spawn at its location when you approach, so careful pulling is required for most groups to avoid a wipe.

I dont' think that any of the factions henchman necro's are MM's, which is unfortunate because the minions come in very handy as a front line assault/meatshield. I haven't read through all the posts, but if u can get a necro hero (as MM) the undercity areas are that much easier...I always bring a mesmer hench, too. gl btw: regardless of class, always bring a longbow for pulling and always have your armor maxed and runed up.

Cantha is tough
I took my Assassin through there and had the same experience you describe. I left him there for a while, got upset with it, and just ran through. You can sneak by quite a few of the mobs by sticking towards the middle of the board and watching instead of attacking.
If you decide to attack, bring an MM along as it is a lot of fun watching your horde move in . . . just be sure to pull or you will have an unbelievable aggro on your hands (which you could try to run through as well).

The reason you are having trouble is because Assassins are bad classes if you play them like everyone does. You FF a target and quickly eliminate it. You aren't supposed to dilly-dally and activate all of your expensive Warrior skills, you are supposed to skill-chain and own the targets. That is why Assassins are called "glass cannons", because they can hit high and hard, but they go down relatively easily...
Also, level up a lot. That is why you are dying so much. Do a quest in Factions called "The Drunken Master" which gives loads of XP and is quite easy. Basically, why you are dying is because you aren't buffed enough, your level is too low, and you don't have max armor (like most are saying), so accomplish those goals first and then come back and hopefully you'll be able to beat them...

I loathed Faction due to dark/annoying/gloomy/suck place like Undercity. I hate all slump areas! I loathed them w/ passion!
BUT
after reaching Mahtu Keep for the 1st time.. heaven! (Esp, Lux's areas..)
