The Undercity - I dispise it.
Seriously, It's not the level design or the choice of NPC's down there, it's the quantity of NPC's down there, once you get near the core of it you can't take five steps without being mobbed by afflicted guards/ Am Fah or Kappa's.
And the worst part is, once your lvl 13 and you get to the market place one of the first main story quests is Mayhem in the Market which requires you to walk past hordes of them in the Underworld, I'm not sure what the developers were smoking while designing this part of the Underworld but my gosh!
Anyway enough with my rant - Is there any way I can get past the mobbs of NPC's and continue on with quests that require you to go down there?
Or are there any routes that you can take to avoid mobbs of the Afflicted / Kappa?
The help would be greatly appreciated!

id just explore above ground and level up some. i never had issues in the undercity. BUT i always was 18-20 when i really tore into the story line. so id go that route myself. or bring hero/guildies that can get the job done. with 7 lvl 20 henchmen and you, id think you could stay on the perimeter and jump in and out and stay upright.
just a thought.

Main land is designed with lvl 20 characters in mind.
Also - do you even have max armour?

Well my Warrior is now lvl 20, But I can't do any more quests without continuing with the main story to unlock 'em.
My armour is Medium (+40 armour I believe)
But even on my lvl 20 Assassin it's still a pain, even with 7 lvl 20 henchmen and lvl 70 armour with upgrades, I also don't have any heros due to me only having Factions and I've never got past Tannaka Temple, lol.

OP, don't play Assasin as a front liner get a warrior hench to do that for you. Identify which target to get rid off first is also important, enermy RTs and monks should be your first target.
Get a long bow as well any will do, so you can use it to pull the enemy to you rather than running in head first. Flag your team then pull. Also look up some pve builds, learn the areas, mobs etc.
Pretty much standard GW tactic really.

Assasins never go in first they go in like 3rd, kill one run away and then kill the second monster and run away ect. And you need to mak your armour and by the sounds of it improve your skill combination. I don't actually think it is your fault that you are doing badly though, factions moves at too a fast a pace for newbies to cope, newbies normally get to the marketplace at a low level due to the bad mission structure of factions, struggle with mainlad cantha and get sick of the game, if you had prophecies i would advise that you start factions but as soon as you get to the marketplace got to kaieng centre and go to tyria(prophecies) and 'skill' yourself up from there.
But yoyu don't have prophecies so i would advise that you do all the quests in shi jea, including the difficult attribute quest(a must!) and max your armour at kaieng centre (a must!) and cap a few elite skills (a must!).
I would normally not advise this but your problem seem to be with your skills and the way you approch mobs so use - www.pxxwiki.com - go to general pve builds(combination of skills) and go to great and see the builds they have there. (they also have a few guides though i din't think they are that great)

choice of henchies can be key to success, also: watch your aggro and lure enemies so you don't get mobbed by multiple groups
undercity isn't bad once you know how to
take vhang, sister thai, proffessor gai, talon, lo sha, and kai ying
quite basic and should go fine then

Pull, pull, pull. Long/Flat bows are your friends.
As a Warrior, your armor should be 80 long before you reach lvl20.

For some crazy reason I love the missions and quests around there. I run people through Nahpui quarter mission all the time. If you want, PM me in game and I will either come with you or at least lend you my heros - MM's are just marvy down there.

I use pvxwiki, I just need the cash for the Book of Tome to unlock a few elite skills I got from AB's
I also use pvxwiki alot
But you have a point - You get a lot of newbies at the market place and the structure of the sp quests is a big double-u tee eff.
I got EotN so.. a guild members basically saved me time and I now have two heros, Vekk and Oge (I believe his name is?) so they'll come in handy.
I've tried many tactics down there but nothing seems to be working as of late.. But I might try with different henchmen and now my Heros.
also I have no cash to get my warrior max armour.. gah.
cheers for the help anyway guys.. will report back with my trials/errors

Yeah, when I make new chars they are always level 20 with max armor when doing Mayem in the Market, plus I have a certain quest active which allows me to walk to the Undercity without a fight. Then in the Undercity I only fight 6 mobs to get to Vizunha.

why would you say "a certain quest" instead of actually naming the quest. help the guy out and tell him. are you trying to keep it a secret or something? having the quest "chasing zenmai" active will greatly reduce the number of mobs in the undercity. so if you have NF take that quest but don't complete it yet.

Its okay...just have to flag heroes properly, make sure you pull, and kill priority targets immediately (Ritualist -> Ele -> Monk). I've cleared that area on chars with starter armor without too much trouble, most recently my survivor Warrior (who was getting Elite Glads armor straight away from Grotto, so I didnt want to waste my money on 1k armor).

Meh. I did mayhem 3 times with survivor characters and always made it through without a single death (heros/henchies only, and not ONCE was I level 20 while down there).
If you use some common sense, pull, and bring a proper group with you, it's cake.
Best tactic I can give you is either:
1. Level up before going there. Which is easy.
2. Get Ogden or another monk hero and set them to be a bonder.
Have them put [life barrier][life bond][vital blessing][life attunement] on you, and then you can go play tank while your heroes are flagged back. After you absorb the initial damage spike, unflag the henchies and watch them go!
I usually have Ogden flagged out of the fight and also have him put [life barrier] on the two healers i brought along.
I was tanking with like, a level 14 assassin who didn't even have max armor. =P

Ooh that's an idea, I've done this quest before with my assassin.. Maybe because I did the "Search Brother thingy" quest.. but on my warrior I rejected lol.. Such a bad move.. gah.
Hmm well.. How good are necromancers down there? (lvl 20 with decent skills ofcourse) can they help alot? or do they just hinder the team?
I haven't tried doing any quest that requires me to go down there.. mainly because i'm having fun with EotN / Prophacies.

Well Actually, I find it quite possible to stay to the side and manage to not get the Afflicted guards into my aggro circle. And I've never really been attacked by the Kappas. :P

You can get your max armor for free from collectors who are mostly located right around Kaineng Center.

This is the best advice you'll get for your max armour for any of your chars in factions. All you have to do is keep the items the collectors want - they drop from the foes you will be killing - no cash required! Check out this page:

Also, you can bring your prophecies characters to Kaineng Center once you reach Lion's Arch, and assuming you've saved enough of the collector items while you were playing factions, you'll be able to get your max armor then. You can do the same with your NF characters, of course excluding paragons and dervishes.
