Buy black dyes. It's basically the pre-equivalent of ectos. Roughly 20 black dyes is 100k.

Well thanks for responding everyone.
For some it would seem strange to stick around in Pre but if you go back as far as I do and realize that there have been way to many changes that imho dumbed the game down then pre is quite simply the best balanced and most beautiful area in the whole game to pay.
There are titles to get in pre and even a title that no one else can get except a toon in pre. Legendary Defender of Ascalon or LDoA.
That said it would seem like there is nothing to buy in pre that is worth 100K but infact there is.
I want to get a Sundering 18/20 sword with 12-16 damage and 18% dmg when health is above 50% and charrslaying 18%
There is a person trying to sell this now in pre for 35 Black dye. That is 210K.
So although it looks like you can only carry 100K you actually can carry 10,000 black dye or 62 Billion Gold.
Not that this could be a reality for most but it could be.

How are you going to get a 18% dmg when health is above 50% sword when 15% is max even for gold weps? :P

Might be some ancient mod on it, or it might just be "18% while health is under 50%" and the poster made a typo.
It's not like you need it, though - you're level 17, you said, and at that level should be killing anything pretty easily.

Yeah that is true. I did make a boo boo on the mod as you can get 14^50 on the sword without it being a hilt or a pummel. It was the damage thing that I was thinking of +18% while enchanted. (which works really well if you are with a monk since I am war/ranger)
Still my idea was to see how to farm the ales.
When I was on last night I timed my ale runs and found out that I can get about 34 ales in one hour depending on how I hit the blood sweat thing from the breaton's.
So in my test runs I found this.
It takes 2 minutes to get to the Breatons running from fort ranik up the hill past the first 2 bears. there is no "run" skill in pre so this is as fast as you can get to the breaton's.
The amount of time that it will take you to kill all of the stuff between the two bears is not worth the drops considering that they are worth between 1 and 5 gold each. Gold for time is waited. I could just run through the mobs but there again the running time it can take up to 2 minutes to get one ale. What I describe below take 30 seconds off of that time easy.
If you manage to start the times right off you have to wait 15 seconds for the *challenge* to start. I can kill it in about 2 seconds - as noted above at lvl 17 - and then get my ale.
The fastest I was able to start the challenge again was another 15 seconds or so. The longest took me an aganizing 42 second and I had to run to the bear and then back. The first bear followed me to the hunters.
So time wise
120 Seconds + (2 minutes just to run to the breaton's)
15 Seconds (wait time to start Challenge)
2 seconds (Kill 1st Bear at Breaton's)
42 seconds (to start challenge again)
15 Seconds (wait time to start Challenge)
13 seconds (Kill 2nd bear and run back)
Total is 207 seconds or 3 minutes 45 seconds or 17 runs an hour for 34 ales an hour.
So 8 hours for a stack is not out of the question. I normally play from 7-11 at night so take me a about a week to get 4 stacks.
The most efficient ale is the 2 man run I think. You can get 4 ales in the first 3.75 minutes or less so 10ish ales in 10 minutes. To do the 9 ale run takes 10 minutes but someone gets 6 and someone gets 3. Even at this rate it is only 54 ales in an hour or split 50/50 it is 27. You get more just killing the first 2 bears and mapping back.
Toss up I guess. Has anyone else tried this?

Elemental in pre
Hi everyone;
I just created a Monk in pre and I chose ele as my secondary profession. I have been running around looking for the flair skill but I can not find it. I see other elementalists using it but I can not get it.
Can anyone help me. Thanks

Flare is only available to Primary Elementalists in Pre-searing. You'll have to go post if your monk wants that skill.

You only get it as a primary Ele in Pre-Sear. You'll have to buy it from a skill trainer once you leave Pre-Sear if you want to use it.

Mesmers are great for solo hunting the Charr in the northlands in Pre, since all their spells are non-projectile, they can hide behind walls and Empathy/Shatter Delusions things to death. Along with my pet I started soloing the Northlands, including the bosses, at level 9 or 10 with my Mesmer.
I tried it with an ele, but with their main attack [Flare] being a projectile, it was full of deaths and slow going.
Rangers are good, because they're much more durable, even though they need line of sight to attack, but if you have the Prophecies collectors edition, you can get the Nevermore Flatbow, a max damage r9 flatbow, which will greatly increase your damage output once you get 9 Marksmanship.
Never tried with anything else.

Hi guys. The best primary imho is war cause of the high armor rating. Couple this with the ranger and you have a great team with your pet.
Death level a strider by the barrin estate to lvl 20. This will give it great damage dealing and will draw enemy attacks.
Also get the troll ungent as this will give you energy regen. that can be spammed. I currently have +8 energy regen and am lvl 17 92% to lvl 17
As for getting wealthy I can get 150 ales in 4 hours I did it last night. that is 15K a night or about 2 black dye. If you do that for 100 nights you can get the max drunken title and drink your way to drunken max title or sell all that ale for 1 Million Gold or 160 black dyes.

The "Frenzy Ranger" in pre is a great class to go for LDOA with... It is a W/R that utilizes the fast attacking speed of frenzy and read the wind to make arrows move very fast and for alot of damage. They also have pets to act as a meat shield. Since they can attack at range, there isn't much hazard when fighting.
EDIT: and the fastest way to gain money in pre is to farm event items (when the event is on) or merchant. When I used to play pre I bought a 11 + 9 vs Charr Shield for like 300g and sold it for 35k. Same thing after an event you can merch the event items. Buy all pumpkin pies for 100-150g ea and sell for 200-250.

Exactly. I just rerolled my perma pre ele into a perma pre mesmer, while my ele had trouble solo'ing Charr at level 8, I'm now soloing them no problem on my mesmer at level 5.
Well. Double shaman spawns are some trouble, but if you can lure them so they're not standing next to each other it's possible.

BRILLIANT!!!
Great stuff. I must say that I have 3 Perma pre toons atm and what i am hearing sounds right. I started a Monk/Ele and at lvl 10 I can not solo charr hunt. So I do that with my lvl 17 War/ranger when I am not death leveling.
I do love the smash and grab mentality that it takes to play the war but there is much more thought that has to be put into running my monk!
As I posted way up there I am working on getting ales in pre. To bring everyone up to date:
It is possible to get 25-34 ales per hour. The discrepancy results in the proximity of the first two bears to the hunters. If the bears are close to the hunters and I can draw them both there it only takes 5 seconds to get an ale after killing a single bear. If however if the bear runs away on my way to the hunters then it can take up to 30 more seconds to get from the hunters to kill that bear and run back to the hunters. This normally also results in the hunters starting their blood thing. That takes an additional 15+ seconds to get an ale.
I have been doing it on and off for about a week and I have 360 ales so far.
So I am averaging around 28 ales an hour or 2.8K/hour. I am hoping to have 2 stacks by 11. I should be close. I realistically will end up with around 470 of them.
I was playing my war last night killing charr bosses for almost 2 hours and I got a fire wand 9-15 damage. That was my best drop. Very sad. I could have made 5.6K doing ale runs.
Anyone else tried to do the ales runs at the hunters?
I will be on tonight around 8:30 - 11:00pm if anyone wants to run either the ales or the charr with me.
Yashi Hiro Moto or Im Not Your Mother are the toons

hmm im gona go out on a limb and say that u didnt try it that well with an ele lol...or u were failing with it. Eles main is Firestorm(trust me i kno i have a lvl 18 ele in pre) and flare is used to pick up the scraps or take out the 1-2 melee charr in the groups...and for deathleveling....all you need is Flare...the charr dont move projectile = direct hit
ele is by far the best prof in pre....good for destroying charr as well as farming event items quickly
at OP...if u wana do sum charr runs on ur monk or sumthin hit me up and if im not busy ill do a few Charr Flamethrower is the ign...takes me 2-3 mins to clear the temple upon arrival

I bet that you can do some MAJOR damage at lvl 18. Ele as the primary is a lot different then ele as the secondary that is for sure. I do not have flair on my monk/ele as only the primary ele can get it. I wanted some sort of healing when I made my toon. I chose monk with healing breeze at the casting time is faster than the ranger T.U.
I chose ele because it is an area effect and the mobs do not scatter in pre when using it as you said.

Considering I only got the ele to level 8, no I wasn't doing something wrong, I just wasn't willing to spend 700+ hours getting LDoA on a profession I didn't enjoy playing.
At the same level, I was already soloing charr on my mesmer, and extremely well at that. Empathy+Backfire+Shatter Delusions>Firestorm+Flare

Yep, mesmers are very fun to play in pre. Empathy and Backfire do some serious damage, and 4-5 min boss runs can be done easily.
