Arangja, your exact problem has started happening to me. I used to just run in there with all 18 ( i think) spiders (this is the hh wammo build). now i die while hh is recharging. same is happening to my friends
all i can think of is maybe the spiders have an increased attack? some AP or something
heh.. running there is harder aswell >.< maybe its just me..

i got 7 shards in the last run i had yesterday, but ill explain exactly how i do it if that will help, I kill all 3 dryders at the front of the cave, i agro the front spot where one dryder was and let the 3 come out then seperate, i chase after them and kill 3 of them while and then run away from the other 6 that spawned, i let them build up a bit, then when i see a good chance when they are nice and spread out, i hug the left wall and start killing from there,i press c and space and sprint after i kill a spider to get to the next spider quick, so i can start hitting the next spider as soon as possible to kill him, doing this method and using hh every time it recharges, usually fixes the front, but also like racthoh said earlier, legionaire armor does make a big difference and help a lot, if you already havent crafted any yet, i really do suggest you try, but in the mean time if your trying to get use to the wammo build, try flurry
**EDIT**
the trick to me, is to start the killing without agroing them all, usually when i head for the whole bunch after build up, bout 3 - 5 are still in the background wandering around, also this is where offense becomes defense, the more spiders you put down, the more easier it will become during the front of the cave, so try and kill as many as you can without agroing the whole bunch and when the whole bunch come in, try and kill them as fast as you can

The reason you guys are probably dying now is because of the change to knight's boots. The global damage reduction is gone, making you take 2 more damage per attack.
The time you really need to survive is 15 seconds, the down time of healing hands. Assuming there are 15 spiders attacking once every 2 seconds, that's 15 more damage you are taking per second. So in 15 seconds, you have taken 225 more damage than before the change to knight's boots.
But if this is really becoming a problem, just pull smaller groups instead of taking on all spiders at once.

dont forget about degen, so in that 15 seconds with -4 degen u take an additional 120 dmg. (4 x 2 x 15)

The Spiders have started to be very generous and drop 5 shards, two unid shadow blades which i salvaged two 10/10 furious sowrd hilts from. As well as before i never used Knight boots because i had put a sup absorb on my glads boots.

im just curious if anyone uses the original W/X build or if everyone is using there W/Mo build now. Im thinking of doing this today and im not sure which build to do and how to setup skills since it seems there are so many variants. What does everyone think works best for them?

The fastest build is the W/Mo build with HH/LV and frenzy. The fact that you never have to use healing signet makes it faster than the other builds. However, this is also the most difficult build to use. The lack of healing signet makes the fight to the spiders tricky if skales are not positioned to your liking.
The easiest build, IMO, is the W/Me build that uses physical resistance and watch yourself for defense. The fight to the spiders is easy with healing signet, and if you accidentally aggro a skale, you don't have to worry about doylak signet slowing you down. The fight against the spiders is also easy, as the amount of armor you have makes all attacks 0, 1, or 2 damage for the most part.
The original W/X build seems outdated in my opinion, and is overshadowed by the newer, more effective builds.

I'd suggest the W/Me for a first time out. The Dragon Slash combo is still pretty fast, and its a little more durable against the big group of spiders.

i use my own variation of the build.
you can pretty much use your own build as long as you have enough defense, self healing, and attacks. just try the different builds out and use what you like the best or tweak them accordingly to suit your own playstyle.

It just makes playing a bit more challenging that's all. I tried FRAPs, but 1-3 FPS was just a little too hard for me...

For the W/mo build, I use flurry instead of frenzy, this way i can take off my enchantments and leroy dryders to death, then put healing hands up quick to kill the cave spiders, it goes really quick for me.

Nope m8 its not just you, just after Ractho released the wamo build I could run there get rid of the dryders get the first spiders out attack them and then just stand and deliver. Then about the time of the armor nerf I started experiencing the problem. I am using flury instead of frenzy, I have Legionnares Chest piece with the sup exorption on it and still if have to take them all on like I did in the beginning I just can get the HH activated fast enough.

If I do it like this its not a problem, but my argument is that something did change must be the armor or something lol but what I was able to to before I cant do anymore. Yes I addapted and started using a different strategy and can still clear the cave. Also I did notice that lately the scale are more and more being spawned in round about the safe spots lol, so the run to the cave is a bit harder, for me at least lately
Anywho still doable but the last couple of time almost got no drops, but if according to you guys drops are up again I'll have to jump in there again when we have favour

First run in a while was 6 shards as well, and a rare shadow blade. Decided Healing Signet was a much better choice to Balthazar's Spirit.

You guys play on the american servers, on the Europe servers the drops (at least mine) suck bigtime. Yesterday 3 runs, only 1 shard total... And this is what I get since 3-4 weeks or something. (Or has continent nothing to do with it?)
But I went yesterday with a group to get armor, and suddenly 12 or more shards dropped....

i agree Koning ive completed 5runs and only had 4 shards from it all two of them i got no shards, its a bit like ectos they rarley seem to drop too, i found a easy way to take out the armoured spiders though! i use W/Me with axe skills but when you aggro them you run stop every now and then and attack one with your bow then run again, keep running untill they are all bunched up that way the wont try use healing spring as ure too close for them to dare use it, it takes time but it works very well ive found it a lot easier using this tactics to take on the spiders

i'm interested in trying this, but all i've read was the first few posts and then this last page of posts - i don't really want to read through 82 pages, especially now since gwguru has been a bit slow for me.
it looks to me that the W/Me build that was posted somewhere is the best build to get started; could someone help me out on what that w/me build was?
