How and/or where do you get a scythe with Ebon mod? I've played this game for a loooong time, and I have NEVER come across a scythe that had anything other than slash damage. X_x (I tried using this method, but with other earth skills that changes my damage type to earth, but I still die.)

Find someplace that has a lot of dervish mobs and ID every scythe that drops. I don't think any of the damage type mods are rare, so you could probably get it on even a blue scythe. Or just go around towns with 'WTB Ebon Scythe Snathe' - no idea on the cost, though.

This build Worked Very well for a Ranger.
Quote:
All-ranger build.
16 marks, 5 or 6 wilderness, rest in expertise.
[skill]Burning Arrow[/skill][skill]Distracting Shot[/skill][skill]Concussion shot[/skill][skill]Pin down[/skill][skill]Needling shot[/skill]
[Unknown skill: sloth hunter's shot][skill]Apply poison[/skill][skill]Favorable Winds[/skill]
Usage:
Start by precasting favorable winds and apply poison before the gate goes down.
For most melee characters: Open with pin down. Then pound them with burning arrow and slothhunter shot while they slowly limp towards you. d-shot or c-shot their self-heal (according to whether it is a spell or not). Under 50% health, start pounding with needling shot. In the unlikely event they outlive the pin down or actually reach you, just pin down again, run away a bit, and repeat.
For casters: Using a longbow or flatbow, open with burning arrow, and queue c-shot while it's activating. Done properly at longbow/flatbow range, this should make sure that c-shot hits their first spell and dazes them. Fire regular arrows for a few shots to interrupt everything they've got as they cycle through their whole skillbar. Then switch to burning arrow and slothhunter, then needling to finish them off. (Start with regular arrows because, if you try to use burning/slothhunter before they've tried all their skills, they might slip a spell through during your long activation time - which can screw you if it's Kasai or Eve.)
For Tydus/Morgahn: You have superior damage, so just make sure to interrupt their heals to win. You might d-shot apply poison if they give you an easy opportunity.
For Bison: Once you're done precasting, move up to the door and run at Bison as soon as it drops. If you're quick you can get into longbow/flatbow range and hit bear form with d-shot. Regardless of whether or not you stopped bear form, you've just poisoned him so he will use purge sig. Once he uses it, hit him with pin down. Pepper him with burning arrow and slothhunter until he gets close to you, then run away and repeat. Reapply pin down when it wears off or after you fail to interrupt a purge. If he manages to purge while pin down is recharging, just run until it recharges - at most he will get in 1 hit while you're firing. Reapply apply poison only immediately after a pin down (you don't want to get caught applying poison when his crippled wears off). Don't bother recasting favorable winds. Needle under 50%.
Sometimes he will focus on favorable winds (which is behind a wall) or just lose aggro for awhile for no apparent reason. Take the opportunity to renew apply poison and pound him with damage. Wait until he starts coming towards you again to use pin down.
For Melonni/Kahmu: If you come running out of the gate, as you would for Bison, you can d-shot their forms. Don't pre-queue d-shot though, because they don't always use their forms immediately.

Edit: Ty dies like fish. It works now
Well, here it goes: always keep up the attunements for energy.
Kinetic armor and mystic regen give you excellent defence.
Keep casting to keep Kinetic armor up.
Attack:
1.) Ebon hawk: Eat rock
2.) Stoning: Eat rock and kiss dirt
3.) Obsidian flame: Eat rock.
Repeat until target is dead.
Somewhat difficult: Mhenlo needs to be stripped from his enchants, make sure you don't remove your attunements in the process.
Gwen can be hard because she interrupts everything. Try to finish her off quickly.
It's quite fun to play because most enemies do no real damage to you.

Try swapping out [skill]Rending Touch[/skill] for [skill]Stone Striker[/skill], and wear full geomancers armour.
Template code: OgpjkwM6KOkiUhpwruK2Gs3tKA
Attributes:
16 earth magic (12+3+1)
10 energy storage
8 earth prayers
as far as weapon i use an adept earth staff of enchanting
Energy +10
11-22 earth dmg
HCT earth 20%
HCT earth 20%
HSR 20%
Enchantments last 20% longer.
I have been able to beat the whole thing 10 times in a row. Danika and her two cronies were the hardest to beat.

[skill]Empathy[/skill][skill]Backfire[/skill][skill]Power Spike[/skill][skill]Ignorance[/skill][skill]Cry of Pain[/skill][skill]Signet of Midnight[/skill][skill]Shatter Enchantment[/skill][skill]Ether Feast[/skill]
Domination: 12 + 1 + 3
Inspiration: 8 + 1
Fast Casting: 10 + 1
Empathy and Sig of Midnight for physical attackers, Backfire for mages. Shatter Enchant to get rid of annoying stuff, Power Spike and Cry of Pain for interrupting nasty stuff. (And CoP for damage) Ignorance is mostly for Magni himself. I just beat the tournament twice with this build (the first time with an inferior testing version, in fact)

I just completed the Norn Tournament in a cakewalk as a Warrior with a variant of Dralspire's build -
Profession: any/Rt
Attributes: 12 Communing, 12 Channeling
[skill]Painful Bond[/skill][skill]Bloodsong[/skill][skill]Pain[/skill][skill]Anguish[/skill]
Template: OQgjAyhjITGlVT+glTfTdiRb0gA
Anguish may be swapped out for [skill=text]Dissonance[/skill] for interrupts. I went for straight damage and had no problems.
Equipment: Given i did it with a Warrior and you need a bucketload of energy, Radiant Insignia on Armor, +20 energy staff (Alem's Remedy) and +15/-1 Ritualist Cane & + 27/-1 Communing Focus. Equip the Heart of the Norn title for a small health boost.
Usage: Using the +20 staff drop all spirits in order between the doors of the arena. On a W/Rt i had 50 energy and can just manage the full spirit drop. Swap to the +42/-2 set and run to the centre of the arena. Use Summon Spirits, cast Painful Bond, cast Ursan's Blessing and attack. The battle should be over within 5 seconds, maybe 10 secs against Magni.
The reason i use Summon Spirits is in case you come up against another Ritualist. If you drop your spirits in the doorway, and they do the same on the other side of the arena, you've lost the advantage and the fight is as good as done because your spirits are out of range.
Ursan's is on the bar in case your spirits get taken out in an AoE attack and you need to do the work yourself. This happened on a few occasions on the way to beating the tourney 5 times to get the crown. While it doesn't happen often, Ursan is still on my bar permanently for the tournament.

My build is basically the same as the other mesmer builds. It works very well against everyone except Razah, who will destroy you (I haven't tested it against Joko or Danika, but it should work).
[skill]signet of midnight[/skill][skill]empathy[/skill][skill]backfire[/skill][skill]ignorance[/skill][skill]ether feast[/skill][skill]spirit of failure[/skill][skill]diversion[/skill][skill]shatter enchantment[/skill]
It is pretty easy to execute. Just empathy attackers and backfire casters (and some dervishes). Most will be dead before you know it (literally less than 15 seconds - 5 for casters).
When you get to Bison, use Ignorance first to take care of Purge Sig, then Spirit of Failure (may work without it), Sig of Midnight, Empathy, and Ether Feast when needed (if he hits you). You can divert if you want, but it isn't really needed. If you accidentally drop Ignorance OR Sig of Midnight, you will die quickly, so keep them up. Bison should be dead in 30 seconds or so.
The only other issues are pretty minor, but here you go:
1. When you fight anyone with P Drain, use SoF first to catch it and then backfire to kill them.
2. When you fight Warmaster Tydus, make sure to Sig of Midnight first and then cast empathy. When he starts to cast Troll, use Diversion. He'll be dead as soon as it wears off.
3. Shatter Enchant is only needed against Mhenlo. Mhenlo's skills are not correct on wiki.guildwars.com. He uses Mending also and I have never seen him use breeze.
4. When fighting Melonni, you can blind her and then wait for her form to wear off. Then, empathy and backfire and she is gone.
5. When fighting Zho/Onyx and Old Mac/Joe, use empathy on the person and Sig of midnight on the pet. The pets both carry interrupts.
6. Cynn will kill you if you just stand there. Put Backfire and empathy on her and then move right when she starts casting (so you are hopefully out of hte PBAoE when it hits).
7. Devona goes down faster if you divert Shadow Refuge.
8. Backfire Kahmu before anything else. He'll die before he gets to you.
9. Backfire Little Thom first, then Empathy since he casts first. You can do ~300 dmg right off.
10. Danika should be pretty easy, but I can't say for sure because I have never fought her with this build. It should be a matter of empathy her (or her minions) until she starts casting, and then backfire her into oblivion. Putting Sig of Midnight on one of the minions is probably best (hopefully it will keep them out of her heal area.
11. Joko also shouldn't be too hard, but I can't say for sure as I have never fought him with any build. My thought is that Sig of midnight on one minion to get rid of the dmg and health steal and then empathy them. If it really ends when you kill a minion (unless they fixed this) you should be done in no time. If not, kill the minions, then work on him.
Razah will absolutely rip you to shreds. I am not sure what to do about it. It may be possible to switch out Spirit of Failure and Diversion with something that could make it possible and still allow you to kill Tydus (Tydus is the only fight where diversion is needed). Maybe Shatter Enchant could be substituted as well, but the replacements would need to take out Mhenlo because the rest of the build cannot without it.
(btw, this is my second post after a loooong hiatus from the game and an even longer one from Guru...feels good to be back)

[pain][vampirism][wanderlust][shadowsong][disenchantment][boon of creation][reversal of fortune][protective spirit]
Max communing
around 8 in protection prayers
the rest in spawning
Even when Magni is not blinded, prot spirit + RoF > him
Not one foe represents a challenge. If your opponent has AOE spells, such as Argo, then make sure to draw his attention away from the spirits. Hopefully he will be interrupted anyway.
For Razah, who is a spirit spammer himself, use a longbow to pull him within your spirit range, whilst you stay safely without his.
I have tried this tens of time with 0 failure.

I just tweaked my previous build a little (still only mesmer skills)
If you trade diversion and shatter enchant for spirit shackles and spiritual pain, you can dominate Razah and you are still able to beat Warmaster tydus. However, I am not sure about Mhenlo...

works great, only razah wiped me, they mainly kill themself with backfire or empathy,CoP for intterupting self heals: Melloni - keep her blind till Avater wears off, Gwen - can be killed with backfire, but try to cast other skills first as she's great interuptor, Magni - keep him blind, bakcfire, ignorance.

Cast Union and Displacement in the waiting area, step up to the line but don't cross it or your enemy comes running. Cast Pain, Wanderlust, Bloodsong, Anguish, Shadowsong (notice those that live longer get cast first), then cross the line, have your enemy come running, cast Painful Bond ... and on to the next level.
I usually placed my entire bunch in the right corner of the doorway, basically right on the front line of the entrance door, it seems to avoid a blind spot. One exception is Razah, if you get him, sprint out, cast Anguish within his range, hex him with Painful Bond and move out of his range.
If you get the heavy ele hitters, step away from your spirits or they get AoEed. I just hexed and kept moving from the left to the right wall and back.
Shadowsong is reasonably important for Bison Man, and in his case, I kept recasting spirits, just in case, plus obviously rehexing.
Last but not least, it's 12/12 Channeling/Communing, so any /Ri will do. Weapon sets are your friend, being able to switch to +15/-1 and back helps.
|
This just saved me from pulling my hair out... I tried so many ele builds. Tried nuke, air spike with blind, water hex and kiting, earth tank, threw in some mesmer interupts and hexes... nothing worked! Any of the stronger defensive builds couldnt get past the earlier rounds (like Menlho). Or the high damage stuff would get owned by norgu or anyone with a pet... On the times that I did make it to the Bison guy, he would own me way too easy, I never really got him below 75% health.
This Rt build owns...flat out. BOOM everyon dies so fast. With Bison you just lure him to the spirits then you kite out of the way and he attacks the spirits. BOOM hes dead and you never even got hit once.
I didnt have the elite so I subbed in the sunspear title track Rt skill. Worked fine.

I find Ebon Vanguard Assassin Support, You move like a Dwarf amd Summon Ruby Djinn my best skills to use here. Then I take 3 attack skills Signet of Rage, Spear of Light, and Bane Signet. and Orison of Healing and Healing Breeze. These will take care of most all of the firsrt 5 even Alesia and Menlo. But you must remember you cannot stand still and try and kill him you must run around some and stay away from him. The assassin and djinn will help keep him away from you then if need healing breeze will help if he hits you once run. It is most important to hit You move like a Dwarf as soon as it regens also the assassin by the second assassin you should have won.
I think these 3 Gwen skills are easily modified to other professions and would work even though I ran a Monk with no special runes Just one Sup Smiting and Vigor. This works with out all that 55 crap.

Small variation.
Actually you dont need any defence there
If you carefully move out of the gate and gate not yet closed ( stay 1 pixel from the line =)) if you put spirits on the gate - they will be squished when gate closed) you can easily summon all spirits and your opponent wont attack you. Urn is for energy.
Winning tactics - put all spirits and hex with Painfull bond.
if your enemy cast something heavy - KD with Move like a Dwarf.
But usually I do initial KD while all spirits in range and starts to hit, Wanderlast KD enemy second time because while he recovering from my KD - he isnt moving so its affected with Wanderlust. Usually enemy dies where i KDed him first time .
As for Razah - just interrupt his first spirit with KD and put Wanderlust, then hex him and put spirits in usual order, and KD him as often as possible. You can survive (just take damage ) his 1-2 spirits if he get a chance to put them. Your spirits kills him faster
OAhiAyiLVN9NVOdOFtd2YTWwAA (template have less stats that 12\12 - didnt get 2nd 15stat quest yet =) )
12\12 communing\channelling
cast order: 1-8
