If you're having trouble against the archers you might need a better balance of magic vs. physical damage. As a warrior there I'm pretty much useless against the archers except as an extra damage sink. Mostly during that wave I stay back in the group and intercept the incoming dervishes.

I have completed it several times with human groups. You want to split into two groups, one consists of1 Tank, 1 MM, 1 Healer, 1 Air Ele. The Other group consisted of 1 MM, 1 SS, 1 Air Ele and a healing rit(me). Finish it several times, believe we even got top 16 of that day. Try it out.

Well I usually go with mages personally. the rangers just don't seem to die fast enough, though the other ones are easier.

An easy-out on the rangers is to remove their effectiveness with terrian. Just like farming Charr in pre-searing, position your team in the center between the two large visblocks. This AI of the rangers is not smart enough to walk around to where they can shoot at you, and you'll be able to finish off the Warriors and Dervishes that rush in without any interference.

This may help; I did it solo using:
Me (Ele with Unsteady ground and wards)
Master of Whispers (Set up as SS)
Olias (Jagged Bones MM with Death Nova)
Razah (Weapon of Remedy Rit with Mend body/Spirit Light and Bloodsong/Ancestors to round it up)
Prot and Heal Hench
Earth Hench
Warrior Hench
With me and Earth hench spamming wards, the rangers did not get to do any real damage.
It goes pretty smooth. The only hairy parts are Wave 2 with those annoying destroyers of compassion coupled with the rangers and Wave 5 where those destroyer of lives pop up. But wards makes this a lot easier.
I only fight the first wave near the gates. From Wave 2 onwards, I camp near the baby dragon.
The destroyers of compassion do make short work of the minions but thats the beauty of it; all of those minions have death nova on them courtesy Olias. And when they die, due to JB, you get more minions. Poison and bleeding r*pes the destroyers.

What two visblocks do you mean in the center? Near the dragon or elsewhere?

He means to stand between 2 'crystal gates' and aggro rangers so they shoot at you through the walls, thus you should be safe from them and have time to deal with dervishes.
I'm doing it with henchies and heroes atm - takes a bit longer and you might have problems at the end of the 5th wave (lot of Hopes and Thoughts).
My setup is:
Me as Dwayna no-enchantment dervish with Wild Blow for Deeds.
Zhed as warder with Unsteady Grounds.
Hayda as "The Powers is Yours!" + HP ballads.
Livia as Golem-MM + Well of Ruin for heavy armored dudes.
Cynn
Mhenlo
Prot hench (Alesia was it?)
Devona
The only problem is at the end of the 5th wave, where you need to take care of Lives quickly and thus you have lot of Hopes and Thoughts to fight with. But I usually make it with no more than death of 1/2 henchies at that moment.
Good luck

I've tried standing there in the middle, the problem is, the mobs will just walk on by like no ones buisness without even going after me and just heading on to the baby dragon, or the rangers will get into range where they CAN hit me and then attack.

Yeah, i'm pretty sure Cynn = 1 of the worst henchies for glints, fire=not good vs destroyers, mebbe take earth henchie or sumthin instead, anythin but cynn basically
