Need some Cyndr advice...
So this is the first time I've met, Cyndr the Mountain Heart... and suffice it to say, I'm getting my butt kicked by him! Usually, the very moment I step out from the corridor and into his room, bam, and I'm down... and half my Hero's and Henchies are wiped out right there! lol
I am a Nec/En with a focus on Blood and Fire; and I only have access to GW:EN, Factions, and of course Prophecies.
I've been trying to read as much as I can about him, but a lot of strategies I have read involve having skills and heros, available in Nightfall.
One particular strategy I have read through is that he can be lured to a wall, where all your hero's and henchies can be flagged behind the wall, safe from his attacks, and you can skill him to death with certain Nec Blood Magic skills that penetrate his carapace shell, while keeping him diseased or poisoned to prevent him from regenerating....
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Heart...ks_%28quest%29
I have the skills to accomplish this, but, how do you lure a stationary target?
Do I have to keep running out to him with explosive barrels, and force him to move to a new spot? Is that how you 'lure' him?

Set a hero to carry the Shelter binding ritual. His one attack deals massive party damage, but a shelter will cap the damage of everyone to 10% while running to him.
Lay spirit, run to the worm, flag heroes/henchies as far appart as is feasible so the next few attacks only hit 2/3 characters, and then start running powder kegs to him.
If the healers are worth a damn, and if the party does anything near worthwhile damage you'll be able to kill him the first time his defenses are breached.
You can't really lure cyndir into the spot where you can safely degen him while covered behind the pillars. You either have to get lucky and have him appear in that spot when he spawns, or keep blasting him, since whenever he recovers from the 3 powder kegs he moves, until he gets to that spot. Setting up for that tactic is more trouble than it's worth.

I probably should have added that, the only Hero's that I have, are;
Jora
Ogden
Vekk
Gwen
Pyre
Hayda
Livia
I don't have any Ritualist heros, and don't have any Ritualist skills... I just have the majority of my Blood Magic Skills, most of my Fire Magic Skills, and a handful of skills for all my other Nec/Enc attributes; but I've never needed to use them... just been playing the whole time using Blood and Fire magic skills. I also, do not have any Elite's except for only a few so far.
My Hero's are just as they were when I acquired them, as I've never seen any need to change them..
I do not have any Hero's available from the Norn Fighting Tournament, though I've tried to acquire them, and it seemed to be a waste of funds to keep trying, when there's no guarantee that they would be randomly selected as one of your opponents...
Do I have any hope of defeating Cyndr with any of my current Hero's and a few Henchies, or do I need to try to get a friend to help me?

The best thing to do would be to attempt this in a party with at least 3 humans. Running Kegs to him solo is a tough way to go, especially since his shell goes back up eventually (and it takes like 3-4 kegs to take it down anyway). Other options include killing him without damage... which means with degen or life-stealing (or both), but I honestly don't remember if that works against him or not. I'm sure the official wiki would have that info, so you might wanna check there.

Life stealing works i had a team of about 8 spirits plus a random assortment of h/h and i didn't die once throughout the whole thing, your best bet would be to turn one hero into a tank and hex him to deal the best you can

You don't need a Rit hero to run Rit skills, they work just as well on a Mesmer or Necro hero. Since you said you never updated their skillbars I'm sure there will be an empty slot on your Gwen or Livia, set their secondary to rit, plop a few points into Communing, and buy the skill.
If you hope to get very far in GW, you should start seeing the need to change your heroes relatively soon, in fact, you're seeing it now. Taking the effort to get them runes, decent equipment, and buying skills that your may never need to just equip them on heroes is part of the game.

First of all update your hero skill bars. Secondly, go to Gunnars Hold, do the Norn Fighting Tourney till you get Xandra.
Dunno what elites you have got unlocked, but I would be going in with a Minion Master Bomber with Prot Spells, an interupt mesmer (I like psychic instability, but you may not have access to it yet), and a ritualist with Signet of Spirits. Again, you may not have signet of spirits, but spirits are still a very strong build option on a hero.
In Normal Mode I usually kill Cyndr with my heroes and Hench after destroying his Carapace once. He is dead before it recharges.

What I do is never bother running the keg. Life steal skills work through his carapace, so you can bring along touch rangers, a Spiritleech ritualist, or just a bunch of blood necro skills.

Use the separate flags to disperse the party, bring Protective Spirit and/or Shelter, and life steal skills somewhere in the team. Also, try doing a search in this forum for Cyndr; there are a number of threads discussing strategies to defeat Cyndr.
You should definitely try to unlock more skills, especially if you bring heroes. You might as well take henchmen if you only use heroes' default skill bars.

eh- i use regular ol' discord on my sin with all three necros. If i remember right i used cynn, herta, and the prot and a heal monk. Just make sure your necros are /rit or /monk with lots of regular discord heals and it's no problem at all. I jsut flagged my party near him and ran back and forth to budger-once his thing was down it took one round of spiking to kill him.
i do remember when eotn came out he was a pain in the ass (pre-discord), but now super easy.

Minion masters/bombers are useless in the Cyndr quest -- there are no exploitable corpses on the third level.
Your first problem is using your heroes the way they came. Heroes with the default (or just random skills thrown together) are much much worse than the henchmen. In any other place I'd recommend ditching your heroes and using just the henchmen unless you can outfit them properly.
However, the key to beating Cyndr is flagging your heroes and henchmen apart so they don't all get blasted at once. So, you need to fix your heroes to be competitive.
Like the others have said, you should go to Gunnar's hold and do the fighting tournament until you get Xandra. Then make a project of unlocking all the skills you need to outfit your heroes, or just buy the skill unlock packs and save yourself a lot of trouble.
I did it yesterday on my mesmer with Vekk as an E/Mo prot infuse, Xandra as SoS with resto heals, Ogden as RoJ smite with divine favor party heals (for the undead on the way down), then Lo Sha, Herta, Zho and Mhenlo. No melee henchmen to get blown up by Cyndr's flame burst. Remember to micro protective spirit on yourself when you run the kegs.

I had a problem with Cindr too, until, as a last resort, I went as a touch ranger and I brought Pyre Fierceshot as a toucher too. Cindr went down in seconds - I could hardly believe it.

So I've been trying the Touch Ranger strategy...
I set up Pyre and Livia as Touch Rangers, and then put Ogden as Necro for his second also with the same necro touch skills, and gave myself the same touch skills... then I took Mhenlo and Lina for more healing back up, and took Devona and Zho just for a little extra damage and interrupting while on the way down to Cyndr...
I can manage to flag my heros around the chamber, but he still drops them all with a single shot almost as soon as they enter his chamber; and they together can't damage more then 1/4 of his health even with Touch Ranger Skills...
I got Liva and Pyre set up with Vampiric Gaze, Vampiric Touch, and Vampiric Bite, along with Apply Poison and Hunter's shot.. as those are the only Ranger Skills that the Hero Skill Trainers offered that would effect Cyndr. I added Barbed Signet to Livia as well as Unholy Feast, and gave her a Purple 15-28dmg Bow that I looted so she and Pyra could both be shooting poisoned Arrows at Cyndr.
I tried going with Ogden set to Ritualist for his second, hoping to run him down to Cyndr with Protective Spirit and Shelter, but... he doesn't have access to those...
Protective Spirit is exclusive to Nightfall, I thought? How do I get that one for him to use? As for Shelter, I can't find any Hero Skill Trainers that offer that one to train him with it.
I have a single Elite for Blood Magic.. Order of the Vampire, which allows Physical Attacks to steal life, but... its not much use, when Cyndr drops my group so quickly...
I've been at it for two hours now, running in and trying different strategies, managed to get him to change his spots about a dozen times I found that he never pops up close enough to use any skills from behind any walls, he only pops up in the same 4 spots and the only way to use any skills on him, is to run into his chamber and get closer to him... but, as soon as you stop and start casting your skill, he fires his attack and drops you in a single shot...
...he's very frustrating...

FINALLY!!
He popped up in a spot right in front of the Power Keg Dwarf...
I flagged all my heros and henchies right inside the tunnel, out of his attack reach.
Then I just stood behind the right hand torch just before entering his chamber. He kept trying to attack me but his attacks hit the torch instead.
I used:
Rotting Flesh - Kept him diseased so his health could not regenerate
Vampiric Gaze - Sucked his life away with each case
Barbed Signet - Threw this in just for the hell of it, kept him bleeding
With the Disease and Bleeding constantly on him, he never regenerated...
I had to cast each one, about a dozen times, and finally... he's dead!
I now have the Hammer of the Great Dwarf and loot from the Mountain Heart Chest!
As frustrating as he was, I do appreciate all of the advice everyone gave, as I did constantly put much of it to use!
