Battle for LA..
Going to attempt it again, this will be my fourth time doing.
Team:
SoS Channeling Rit (me)
Aura of the Lich MM w/ prots
N/Rt Xinraes Weap. healer
Panic Dom. Mesmer w/ some support (Shatter Hex and Hex Eater)
Ineptitude Illusion mesmer
Invoke Lightning Ele - pure air magic
I get owned right after Confessor Isaiah or whatever his name is. Wiki says to bring lots of AoE, but I can't really find anywhere to fit aoe into my build, as it already only has 1 healer and 1 source of prots.
I usually flag my heroes on the stairs and set my spirits upfront so they have to go through the lvl 20 Minions, and my spirit wall, but everythings dies too fast and I get tired of dying and eventually leave.
Any tips appreciated

my advice: use a conset. it'll cost u money, but it'll only take u one attempt and save u alot of time.
consets > perfectly optimized heroes will full rune sets, perfect weapons, and the best skills.
pop a conset and you can cruisecontrol your way thru it.

How many discord heroes? And what role did you play? Since there's a 6 player size limit, and discord usually refers to a 3-necro team.

Do it in NM. I did it with me as a Save Yourselves Barrager, another player as an earthshaker warrior (he was afk half the time), an Unyielding Aura Monk, a panic mes, an SoS/resto spirit spammer, and a jagged bones MM. Easy peasy. Never wiped once. Be sure to stay on the front lines, so to speak, for as long as possible, only retreating to the first set of stairs when necessary. Doing this, I was never even forced to retreat to the second stairs area near the keep.

I did it with a trapper, an SoS, an MM, a prot monk, invoke spike ele, and a fire AoE ele. Except all were real players, so their may be some difference there if you're using heros.

Your team build isn't really weak. Invoke ele is the only one that isn't that great here (especially against jade armors with 160 AL), but it should be more than strong enough for NM. Are you making sure to pull back as more enemies come? Trying to hold the front is significantly harder than pulling back to the stairways. Double mobs will come in, then one waits at the bottom of the stairs while the 2nd runs up. Standing too far ahead means you have to fight both at the same time instead. Also, backing up gets you more NPC support, enemies get funneled better, you don't get ganked by teleporting enemies, etc.

Do you have your armor infused?
Took me a few tries with my Paragon before I realized that the new armor wasn't infused.

If you're doing it in NM with infused armour, you shouldn't have too many issues. My boyfriend and I did it the other day with the following:
Him: Prot monk with BHA and a a pet
Me: SS Necro
BiP Paragon
Flesh Golem MM
Panic Mesmer
UA heal monk
We wiped once in the entire mission. Strategy was to stand on the stairs and let them come to us. The NPCs rez after a while so don't feel like you have to stand by the gate where they come in.
First time I did it I had to use henchies. Took me a couple of attempts but still got there. By the sounds of your team setup, you should be fine (heroes are auto-infused). Make sure they have runes/insignias and even with their default weapons you should be ok.

i'm not understanding the whole bb the stairs strategy. personally i bb the main gate. i've done this several times. first it helps keep the npc's alive a bit longer. and secondly it gives you a couple seconds to regroup in the event of a wipe.

Very recognizable alltogether. tried to do this with heroes a few times. Stayed as long as possible near the main gate but at a certain point you have to retreat to the stairs. after a few tries I did it with a team which is easyly formed at LA. Myself being a ranger using incendiary arrows and another ranger barrager on the hill next to the steps. Spirits (SoS) and minions down the stairs and in between the waves I put a crippling trap there as well to slow the enemy down. Other guys don't remember but we could control the enemy reasonably well. They never passed the stairs.

Bring a ST Shelter rit and stand behind the wooden barricade between the 2 towers near the entrance with the ST rit flagged out of harms way.
SoS rit should be included but the rest doesn't really matter. Just kill anything before it gets up the stairs to your left and make sure you flag heroes out of aoe.
I think I used 3 discord necros with the rits, can't quite remember though. I was Mo/A discocaller. EVAS is awesome here.
It's all about that wooden barricade though. None of the melee can get to you and you can flag out of caster aoe.
Simples!
