I've done this mission 4 times now (once for myself, and 3 times taking guildies through it because they couldn't :P ).
My character is a D/Mo with fairly generic skills (Avatar of balthazar, chilling victory, heart of fury, mystic vigor etc).
When I did it myself I took henchmen and heros only, next two times were with dervishes and the last time was with a warrior.
1. Me
2. Koss with watch yourself, wild blow and you're all alone. (warrior replaced him on 4th time)
3. Master of whispers on an SS build.
4. Dunkoro on a light of deliverance build.
5. Kihm
6. Sogolon
7. Eve
8. Devona (replaced with dervished 2nd and 3rd times)
The guild wiki guide is pretty good to follow, although I'd recommend going right instead of straight on after the first two titan abominations.

55 tanking Shiro, capping shrines with flagged henchman (careful of the +50 health from Melandru). Then finishing him off once you've go the bonus. Works like a charm. N/Mo//Mo/N can solo him. Anyone else can just tank him then bring an Spoil Victor hero (set to passive when you want to kill him) and just let Shiro waste himself.
The easy road to Masters GoM.

How I did the mission, masters on first try. :. Lyssa seems to kill the lich easily, but the only problem was shiro. Who we ignored for the most part<Norgu seemed intent on trying to wand him...> until the master's bonus was done.. >>; Then we killed him... Not sure how it will work for you, but it worked out great for me... We had no tank though.. >>; Not that anyone really died other then gehraz, who kind of...ran into the fray.. >>;

I had no problems doing this on my necro. The problem is people, as always. It is better to do this with heros and henchmen, by yourself. People have their own way of doing things, which is generally wrong. It may be blunt, but it's true.
I ran [Spiteful Spirit], and [Arcane Echo], with [Insidious Parasite], [Mark of Pain], [Weaken Armor], and some interrupts, such as [Power Drain] and [Leech Signet]
Koss took [Wary Stance], [Watch Yourself], [For Great Justice], [Lions Comfort], [Quivering Blade], [Barbarous Slice], [Rebirth], and [Wild Blow].
My other tank was a Derv with [Victorious Sweep], [Twin Moon Sweep], and [Reapers Sweep], 4 enchantments, 1 of them being [Mystic Regeneration], and [Resurrection Chant].
I took a healing monk and used [Glimmer] as my elite.
I then took the henches recommended earlier, Kihm, Sologon, Devona, and Eve.
1 by 1 on the portals, should be easy without anyone messing it up. Once that is down, lure out shiro first. You just run towards him, agro both, and run back, the lich should turn around and go back. Thats why you save him for later.
So, unload your junk at him. Insidious Parasite, SS, and Weaken Armor will remain on him. Once he starts using that skill that you guys fear so much, IP and SS will zomgpwnt him to death really really quickly because he starts attacking faster. He drops like a slab of lead, hard. No problems.
Run in, go for the shrines. Run to the back of the shrine and it should be far enough to take off agro from the lich. When you finish one shrine, go for something directly across from it, and avoid going to something directly next to the shrine you capped previous. This will help keep agro off lich. Once you got all 5 shrines, beat the snot out of the lich, and pat yourself on the back for doing something so many others whine about.
When the lich starts to cast life vortex, interrupt it, though by the time he starts casting it, he should be pretty much dead, even if he manages to pull it off.
Edit: By the way, You do not have to kill Shiro last to get the Masters. I heard one or two people saying this, and they are flat out wrong. All you have to do is kill 1, then cap shrines, then kill the other.

you don't even need to kill even one to cap the shrines. just flag your heroes/henchmen where the shrines are. first of all, shiro and the lich aren't enemies until you the player get too close to them. so instead of marching in there, just flag your heroes behind the shrines. if there are any margonites at the shrines, your h/h will kill them.

The important things to do for doing this mission:
- Patience. Watch the movement of the patrols, and try to slip past as many as you can, only take out those you have to.
- Enter the portal area through the top gate (where Shiro talks) and flag your group. Then inch your way down until you trigger the spawns. Then go back to you flag and wait for the patrols to settle.
- Take out the portals in a zigzag starting left top (closest to you) then right top, making sure to lure the patrols and kill them. If you try to skip them they will swarm you.
- Do net enter temple until the whole area is clear and all team members has completed regen. Flag your team against the right wall 1/2 aggro range from the end of the temple door shade.
- Lure Shiro out of the temple into the doorway and kill him. Use many of: [Pain Inverter] / [Spoil Victor] / [Spiteful Spirit] / [Disrupting Chop] / [Savage Slash] / [Distracting Blow] / >> [Wild Blow] << You have to end [Battle Scars] very quickly, by using [Wild Blow].
- Cap the shrines by luring and kiting the Lich, and flagging your team to do the capping.
- Just swarm the Lich and kill him. He dies quickly.
- If you are an Ele consider using [Blinding Flash] and/or [Blinding Surge].
- Monks can use [Shield of Judgment].

My plan went pretty much as I expected.
H/H (Sab's Necro Triad - with a couple of very small changes) and my Derv.
Flagged everyone on the far side as near the wall as possible and followed them. Beat the lich into dust. From there it was ignore Shiro and go around in order capturing the shrines - using flags to make sure my H/H's stayed put. The minions generally kept him busy so we could just ignore him some more.
After I had all the shrines we stopped running from Shiro and laid some smack down on him. He fired off his 'super power' and I countered with Pain Inverter. Then I had a cinematic
H/H were - Sab's triad:
Master of Whispers (Curse necro mostly)
Olias - MM
Livia - Mostly Ritualist
Healer - always pays to have more
Warrior
Paragon
Dervish

I've beaten this mission multiple times, and of course the most difficult part by far was capturing the shrines and defeating Shiro at the end.
So now I am attempting to get Guardian of Elona, and this is the last mission I have left on Hard Mode. I knew it was going to be more difficult than Normal Mode but....
I don't know if I'm just retarded or having incredibly bad luck, but I can't even get to the portals in Hard Mode. The Titan Abominations/Pain Titans/Madness Titans and the Arms of Insanity in particular just rip my party to shreds. Is there any way to do this with heroes/henches? Does anyone have party build suggestions? I am a Ranger, if that helps or hinders any particular builds. Alternately, is anyone else interested in beating this mission on HM and willing to help a poor soul out?

Just did this last night - easy
I tried this twice with full PUG teams - never got past the Portal Wraiths or whatever. Pugs run around and generate way too much aggro.
Went back in with Me, my three heros, a Human ellie that brought two heros, and another Human ellie.
I was Dslash Warrior / Paragon with Wild Blow (FGJ, Dslash, Flail, SY, Enduring Harmony, LightBringers Gaze, Wild Blow, Brawling Headbutt).
My three heros were all Necros
MoW - N/Me with SS, insidious, Empathy, Enfeebling, etc
Olias - N - Jagged Bones MM
Livia - N/Rt - WoR, bunch of Resto heals, insidious, and one other curse
Two Ellies were fire - not sure of builds
Monk Hero - straight healing
Jora the Warrior - don't know build.
The beauty was that when I flagged my heros someplace, the ellies went there too - Longbow pulls and controlled aggro and we got to Lich and Shiro all with +10% DP.
We planned to kill lich first and then get the shrines - but we killed lich on the stairs and shiro was there so we just beat on him. One death (me ), but we beat him down pretty quick - make sure he is cursed with empathy, insidious parasite and SS when he gets to about 30 % health and down he went.
Anyways - mish is easy with good healing and remember to have a number of hexes that damage Shiro when he attacks and it should be no problem.
BTW -Replaced Wild blow with the sword strike that interrupts and did Abbadon immediately after with MoW and Livia as above, and Gwen as a Domination mesmer with Healer Hench, Mesmer Hench, Fire hench and Ranger hench - just over 15 minutes for masters - almost dissapointing.

Shiro is obviously much easier to aggro at the entrance than the Lich so you may just go a head and kill him first then aggro the Lich and get one of your group to keep him engaged wanding through the wall while you and the rest go capping. Then come back and finish him off.
[EDIT] it helps to have only one tank Shiro, preferably a stances tank with wild [something] When I did it recently on my 2nd warrior I went W/P and used spear with wild throw [to maintain adrenaline] and bonnetti's defense. So I was just basically alternating between those 2 skills while under flail and for great justice

This mission is dead easy if you know what you're doing and don't aggro 16521434 foes at once near the portals.
Did this earlier this week with my assassin. breezed through the whole part with Heroes/Henchies. At the temple i simply engaged both shiro and the lich (yeah both at once), killed the lich (as shiro doesn't realy do much damage when left alone) then went on to cap shrines. At all times shiro was attacking one of my heroes/henchies but never realy posed a threath. When all shrines were capped i simply got critical defenses up (paired with critical agility) and started tanking shiro. Brought wild blow aswell to keep up both enchantments guaranteed (and end battle scars). Shiro died easely, no deaths at all, flawlessed mission.

I too found this quest difficult. I finally did it using Henchmen and Heroes. Time after time the Lich was killed and the Altars Captured... Yet Shiro always knocked us down. My build and team is a combination of inspiration (not the in game type) and ideas from the web. To make sure we got through the first part, destroying the portals and such I got Dunkoro, Tahlkora and myself Smiting Prayers along with a few heals and prots. I also added the two monk henches available: Mhenlo and Kihm as well as the Dervish Gehraz and the Elementalist Cynn. The idea was to deal Holy Damage to destroy the Demons and a bit of Fire AOE too. I used a glitch (without activating Shiro or the Lich I flagged my team to the closest two Altars to take over, while I stood outside of the gate at all times) to capture the closest 2 Altars. After activating Shiro and the Lich, I led the Lich near the gate where my party was flagged. Easy part done we ignored Shiro (he doesn't do much damage while running around or without Impossible Odds) as we took over the last 3 Shrines. At the last Shrine Tahlkora spams Empathy while MoW casts Shadowsong and Displacement, then spams Spoil Victor as Shiro uses IO. Within 10 or so seconds he dies. It was a huge surprise compared to my earlier attempts without the four spells listed here.
Anyways here are my builds.
Me - E/Mo
12 Energy Storage
03 Healing Prayers
12 Smiting Prayers
Spirit Bond* Signet of Judgment Lightbringers Gaze Bane Signet
Spear of Light Healing Breeze Purge Conditions Sunspear Res Signet
*= Even with no points in Protection Prayers it still removes 40 damage for each attack. No matter what profession Lightbringers Gaze is a must-have to kill demons.
Master of Whispers - N/Rt
10 Blood Magic (1 from Minor Rune)
10 Death Magic
10 Soul Reaping (1 from headpiece and 2 from Major Rune)
10 Communing
Spoil Victor* Animate Bone Minions Animate Vampiric Horror Death Nova
Animate Shambling Horror Blood of the Master Displacement* Shadowsong*
*= Disabled until after destroying the portals. Minion skills are disabled when these are enabled. Displacement and Shadowsong are anti-IO skills. Displacement gives party 75% chance to block while Shadowsong Spirit's attacks cause Blindness. This means that when Shiro uses IO he can't hurt you. In case he does make an attack he gets punishment damage by SV.
Dunkoro - Mo
03 Healing Prayers (1 from headpiece and 2 from Major Rune)
12 Protection Prayers
12 Smiting Prayers
03 Divine Favor
Protective Spirit Signet of Judgment Spear of Light Banish
Bane Signet Healing Breeze Purge Conditions Resurrect
Dunkoro doesn't help much against Shiro except for doing damage SoL does extra punishment damage.
Tahlkora - Mo/Me
08 Domination Magic
12 Smiting Prayers (1 from Minor Rune)
14 Protection (1 from headpiece and 2 from Major Rune)
03 Divine Favor
Protective Spirit Signet of Judgment Bane Signet Spear of Light
Purge Conditions Spirit Bond Empathy* Resurrect
*= Empathy is for punishment damage. It is disabled until after the portals are destroyed.
Mhenlo - Mo [Healer Hench]
Kihm - Mo [Monk Hench]
Gehraz - D [Holy Hench]
Cynn - E [Fire Hench]
I spent 4 days, most of the last 3 trying to complete this mission. After looking up both here, on youtube and on GWWiki I put the above together. I also used a Maxed Smiting Staff on myself, my Heroes had the relevant Maxed Staves too.
For those who say to use things like Spiteful Spirit, Soul Leech and other skills not available to the Nightfall Campaign, not everyone has Prophecies/Factions/EotN. I don't have Prophecies so i can't use some of those skills. For those that don't have Factions try to get blinding skills and a tank with a similar blocking skill like Protectors Defense to replace the Ritualist skills I have.
I'll soon arrive at this mission with my W/Mo and it could be difficult to complete. People who say they use tanks can you give me an idea of what sort of tank. I'm not really fond of the Low Hp via 5 Superior Runes tanks since I need to use a spare suit of Armour (I can't go tanking all the time). If you could give me other ideas that would be awesome.

Got a question on this one... Is this one of the missions where if you do the bonus, but fail the mission, the next time you do it you dont need to do the bonus? Im doubting it, but i figured i'd ask.
Got the lame Lich-Ally bug.

Only Prophecies missions allow you to complete the bonus seperately. You'll need to redo the mission (including the bonus objectives) if you want Master's Completion. The bonus isn't the hard part though, so it doesn't matter too much.

How I always did it was on my char go x/Rt and do a dwg build to explode stuff by yourself. Then bring 5 support chars and another of choice. My 5 are dual mesmers (panic and shared burden), ss n/rt, sos n/rt, and mm rt/n. Shared burden rly puts the metal on shiro as everything is now slowed to half. Also if u can afford EBSoW or trytophant signet it helps greatly for obvious reasons. The optional char should be something that does a good bit of both solo and aoe damage. Invoke ele with gale and bflash is cool, but I personaly like icy viens necro with some punishing hexes. With only 2 doing damage it does take a bit of time to kil shiro, but he dies! Don't take my advice as a guide, haven't run it in a while. If u still need help on the weekend, pm me. Ign Our Virus. Will be glad to kill shiro again
