I've had most success (wiping twice at the second last group, the one with Perfect Aegis) running A/D scythe build for myself, 3 healers (2 monks, 1 rit) and 2 aoe elementalists

Hate to be cliche, but spirit spammers and minion masters work really well for the quest.
Plop to spirits on the hill near the stairs where the barricades are and have the minions help with the front line.
Also be sure to pull back when you're being overwhelmed and let some of the NPCs around help out.

Done this a few times with another human player, this was before 7 heroes.
I usually take a summoning stone because I like a little backup if things start going bad.
I take at least one MM necro a couple of eles ditto Monks one heal one prot
The other guy was a ranger and he took one monk with him and I think a panic mesmer was the last hero.
Party forms up near the gate but behind the first friendly forces, Once the mm has a few animations going I summon spirits and open the gate.
Usually we can defeat the first 2 waves from here if not we back up a little, when we need to we pull back to the first steps.
This is usually our final position fighting from the top of the steps occasionally charging down to finish off a wave.
The human ranger was on high ground using muddy terrain and generally crippling and spreading conditions from relative safety.
Usually there will be enough animations and Spirits to hold the enemy but if needed pull back to protect your squishy spellcasters.
Let the Ai friendly forces do their bit.if it gets really hairy use the summoning stone that can win the fight for you.
I once got a Juggernaught that survived from wave 3 right to the end of the battle is was incredible.
Anyway that for what its worth has worked for me half a dozen times.
Just realised my stupidity we only have a party size of six there lol
Party was spiritspam rit - MM necro - Earth Ele - Healing Monk - Ranger - ROJ Monk

BFLA used to be intense, till they nerfed it because crappy players could not get it done.
Not it is piss easy, I mean I managed to solo 90% at the front gate with my Rt (heroes flagged back at middle doing nothing).
If you cannot do this stupidly simple mission, you are doing something wrong, as the others guy suggest take a Rt and an MM helps a lot.
Remember that the NPC groups assist a lot, fallback as needed and do not let anyone die where they cannot be reached.

You need more offence. 3 healers is way too much. Look into getting a Soul Twist Ritualist for party-wide defence. Get a minion master, there's tons of corpses so he'll build up an army fast. Splinter weapon on a melee with AoE skills is a real killer if you manage aggro well (works easy at the stairs).

Did it quite a while back first try before 7 heroes. Took along warrior and ele hench for yuks. Can do better than that these days. No consumables except one rez scroll.
Used my ranger SoS to spam spirits including Disenchantment. Olias was MM running Flesh Golem Elite for a disposable explosive warrior! Also Olias cast wells that really work nicely on the stairs. Softens stuff up. Gwen with Panic, interrupts, energy management. Livia as N/Rit like Sabway. Plenty of spirits around to keep her running!
Mostly it was just boring tending my spirit garden and watching stuff die. Except for one boss that nearly took down the party. Put flag up hill by NPCs, fired off rez scroll. Finished off boss myself. Retook stairs as party recharged.
Set up a Ranger or Rit spirit spamming hero. See builds on pvx. You should not have much trouble. An MM is very helpful, lots of corpses.
As an assassin, either stay at top of stairs and pick off what makes it through, or go AssaCaster. Avoid being a drain on the healers that way.

The tips above on builds are very good, so im not repeating them.
Some general tips:
1: don't fight them at the gate, but sacrifice the first few npc's behind the gate first to get the enemy's in a bit firther. I prefer to fight at the first set of stairs. You will always be dragged a little bit inwards, but between fights there is always time to go back to the stairs. Reason is that, when your fighting to close to the gate, the foes are healed by all the enemy healers that still have to come.
2: Are you infused? http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Infusion.
3: one or two wipes aren't uncommon, so bring dp-removal.
