Domination, Illusion, Inspiration
After long thinking, and reading some posts on the forums, I decided to be a Ranger/Mesmer character in Guild Wars. I also decided to put my points only in 3 attributes. 2 of these are already decided (Expertise and Markmanship). The only question that I now have is what to choose for Mesmer attribute (according to Expertise and Markmanship, what should be the most complemenary attribute?)
Anyone has a good suggestion for me?
-Domination?
-Illusion?
-Inspiration?
Thx in advance, guys

Maybe someone can give me some important characteristics of the 3 different Mesmer attributes? What should be best for PVP, what for PVE? What deals more damage? What should be best for a Ranger primary?
These are all questions that should make my choice more easy. Please help me on this one guys

My suggestion is to look at the skills for each of these attributes and figure out which skills fit best with your ranger skills. Bump up the attribute for these skills. Domination is never a bad choice either!

alright i am a lvl 11 Me/E and here are what the 3 schools do pretty much.
- DOmination= get spells like empathy (dmg when they hit) and backfire (dmg when they cast). domination is just damage output
-illusion= the most famous illusion skill is conjure phantasm(-5 health regen) for X seconds. i dont really use illusion much so i dont know much more
-inspiration= is mana draining stuff like eather feast (drains 5 mana and heals X health for each mana drained
for a ranger i would choose domination. simply because you will have empathy. this will give you a little advantage over warriors and backfire to the mages. i dont think inspiration would be as good besause you will are not as relied on mana since you have some higher physical damage. illusion would be alright but like i said earlier i dont know much of it bevause i like domination ALOT

Inspiration may be good too for you, it's a pretty defensive-oriented tree. Domination is great, but I think your ranger skills are a pretty good substitute for it. As someone else mentioned, illusion would really help you against meleers though.

Thx for your reply's guys. Think I'm gonna go for Domination after all. My only problem will be dealing with those Warrior tanks I think . Anyone has tips on that issue? (knowing that I use Expertise-Markmanship-Domination attribute combo)

well, do some reading, but I'd look especially at empathy, diversion, cry of frustration, as far as domination skills are concerned.

empathy will be your main spell vs melee but you need to make sure you can last vs a warrior with you hitting him, him taking damage from your empathy (with 10 points into empathy it will do 22dmg for 14 seconds), and with him having better armour.
i have my lvl 1 mesmer and i also have a Ranger/Necro so i am hoping to go some into anti melee with the necro though i am kinda wishing i would have gone R/Me

i like to use "blind" against warriors, why dont you try "throw Dirt" [Expertise]
(5,1,45) Skill: Target touched foe and foes adjacent to your target become blinded for 3-13 seconds. the only problem is de high recharge time...

Right, throw dirt is a good one vs melee. Also consider packing Sympathetic Visage, Spirit of Failure, or Soothing Images. Physical Resistance is also a great one to pack, 30 seconds of +40AC @ 0 attribute points in Inspiration.
