Default Stopping Spam Healing

Im reposting this here, I think I posted it in the wrong forum.

Quote:
am a primary ranger. And I am telling you, directly from experience, that using concussive shot to interrupt near instacast spells so they are not near instacast, is a waste of 25 mana and spell slot compared to something MUCH more reliable, like mesmer skills. If someone is exclusively spamming Orison of healing and other fast cast spells, how are you going to proc concussive shot in the first place? You might as well use distracting shot, at least you don't blow 25 mana when you miss.

I dragged this from some post on the forum. There seems to be a lot of complaining lately about spam healing/ and or warrior monks uber killing/healing skills. From rangers I hear distracting shot isnt enough to catch the spam in its act. To be honest the best solution Ive come with in player vs player is to simply include Choking Gas on the skill bar. I find it gives you the nessecary seconds to set up for the almighty distracting shot. If your lucky you'll catch more then one target with choking gas but after its effects you should still be focusing on that ONE target. What usually happens is the target, if aware he's been gassed, will try to flee the scene. Once free of the gas he'll immediatly cast his most useful spell. A good ranger will then slam down Distracting shot at this point and paralyze that useful skill. You can then unleash with Tiger's Fury, rinse and do it all again. Anyhow thats just my two cents. Choking Gas is under-utilized for some reason. Maybe its because alot of players dont have Poisen Arrow yet and are hanging on to the-be-all-end-all "Apply Poisen." Break free young rangers! Interrupt them young harrasers!

The original poster is right. I play a Monk and IMHO the Mesmer is the most powerful enemy anyone can face in GW. My least favorite has to be the Me/N combo.

Once people learn how to use a Mesmer to stop spam spell casting, I think we will see much more balanced teams in PvP and PvE.

I've tried choking gas before, and I'm not sure how it works. I apply the preparation, fire arrows at someone, and I see no visual or interruption in casting time that shows it working. I don't know if it's suppoesed to give a daze effect, or proc an interruption every second or per arrow, the description is vague.

Also, the problem I have with choking gas is that being a preparation, you have to prepare it before the monk starts spam healing, or maintain focus and preparation on the monk the entire fight to guard against any life-saving heals. I'd rather not divert too much of my attention towards the monk, because that kind of a distraction is what commonly makes people lose in PvP. I like to put pressure on the entire team as a whole, and a ranger looking to follow that strategy while still having on-demand tools for healing interrupt will grab arcane conundrum over everything else.

I agree with Lazarus, Mesmers have great skill disabling abilities, and even though Mesmers might die quite fast lets see how your healer will react if he has his best healing skills capped.

Im going to make an Me/R next, just gotte figure out what would be the best 2 skill trees to boost for the best combo in those two classes.

Edit :

Though to keep it on topic, I dont think its possible to disable skills if they are instant cast by interupting them, the only way I see it would be that Mesmer hex that disables the first skill you use for a long time.

Mirail I'd go Ranger/Mesmer not the other way around. The Mesmer special will do you no good, but the much better Ranger armor and Expertise will.

Choking Gas sends casters into a daze for 1-10 seconds. This triples casting times on impact. This gives you the time to shoot distracting shot on those fast casting heals, thus disabling them for 20 seconds. Also if the caster is being beat on in melee (EVERY hit) will interrupt whatever spell he is casting. You can even shoot this at warrior/monks who are tanking your warrior. Follow it up with distracting shot and disable his Healing Breeze for 20 seconds. If it hasnt been interrupted already by your tank. (EVERY hit remember). Bye Bye enemy warrior/monk You were uber for about a week.

Actually My reason to go with mesmer build was going to be because of the fact that (as far as I know) the Mesmer has more energy on its armour, I´ll just wait and see how it works out, at least I get to have the fun of lvling that char

There was a thread about bow speeds that you might find interesting (http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...t=arrow+flight).

Basically if you want to disrupt casting you have to use a shorter range bow with faster arrows. (http://www.guildwarsguru.com/content...ies-id1092.php)

Orison of healing has a 1 second cast time so with zero lag and average human reaction time (1/4 of a second) any interupt is only going to land if it has a cast time under 3/4 of a second. Concussion Shot is 3/4 cast time + arrow flight speed (1/2 second for the fastest) so your only going to be able to interupt spells with a casting time over 1 1/2 of a second.

Take with a grain of salt...I don't play a ranger and all this is conjecture.

I’m loving my Me/N. Only level 15 at the moment but it’s only going to get better, I don’t get several skills I plan to use consistently until later in the game. But even so I do farley well at the moment. I always go after the monk in the other group and tell every one else do just leave him to me.

But I don't think the mesmer is the most powerful enemy anyone can face in GW. I do think it is the most powerful enemy any monk can face. And I don't even use spell interrupts at the moment, I drain energy and then I drain health. A monk with no energy isn't going to do much healing.

A smiter can definitely help with the spam healing problem, if that healer is spam healing a specific target. They could toss scourge healing on the target and each of those orisons will cost the healer up to 67 hp of damage. It's a very efficient debuff as well since it only costs 10 energy and lasts 30 seconds. A lot of times, before the healer knows what hit them, they'd be dead, provided you followed up with some offense on the healer. If it's self healing, well, that's even better. Don't even need to switch targets.

I was doing some PvP with a pure Ranger last night and Distracting Shot was pretty tricky to land to stop Orison Of Healing, but I think I hit it more times than I missed it.

It's easier to hit when they're spamming it, you can sort of tell when it's coming.
