Default Is there something in PvP I'm not getting?

I normally like PvP... but I don't like GW's PvP.

I have not had a single win with my PvP characters. I don't get it, is there something I'm doing wrong? With my Mesmer/Elementalist, I can hex the healers, but then the healers cure themselves and everyone kills me in 5 seconds. I can also attack the healers or mages, but then everyone kills me in 5 seconds. With my Monk, I can usually keep myself and the team healed for about 5 minutes, but then I am killed and we all die.

I don't understand, am I doing something wrong?

Most likely, yes, you are.

What would let people help you more is if you posted your build and your goals and perhaps fine tuning skill and attribute distribution would help you. Because otherwise you aren't very specific about your problems.

If you are basing it off the random arenas (i,e fort koga), don't be worried. Mes/monk are both very heavy support classes and you can't expect to win with a team full of idiots that are often in that arena.

Yeah, I'm doing random arenas. Should I try to get a group in one of the arranged arenas?

Always remember that what you are doing as an individual is only one-eighth (or one-fourth, as the case may be) of the reason your team will win or lose. The strongest and savviest healing monk couldn't keep alive a bunch of pug w/mo's running around attacking different targets against even a modestly organized team.

If you lose, don't take the whole responsibility of it onto yourself. It's hard to keep track of everything in the heat of battle but talk to your teammates and try to identify what went wrong, whether it was you or them, and try to plan for it in the future.

And from one monk to another, keep in mind while playing this class that to the other team you are public enemy #1. Bring something, anything to compensate for this, because you're the group's lifeline. I'm healing with a little bit of prot, and when the warriors all jump on me in the beginning I like to drop shielding hands + guardian on myself (and get the backup monk to healing seed me, if we have one). Once they realize they're not doing jack they usually switch to an easier target, trying to feel out the weak link. Get past that initial heat and you're usually okay to operate unhindered.

My first and currently highest level character is a Monk/Warrior (went backwards , but I don't really use the warrior aspect). if you are a support/caster type role, and your team doesn't help defend you (especially the ever-hated monk), then you will be slaughtered. I know every team I am on, the primary objective is usually kill monk first...

If you are at least a decent player (you probably are, seeing as you are not completely blaming others), then probably your whole team is a bunch of airheads. If you want to start winning, go to an arena with Arranged Teams

Arenas for arranged teams? Where? I've always thought that there was only the one arena in Ascalon.

Support classes, especially the mesmer, are very difficult to play, since they need to be protected at all times. They also need to be fine-tuned to your particular play style, otherwise they end up doing nothing but frustrating you. I struggled a lot to find the ideal build for my mesmer, and it was frustrating, but now that I nailed it down, I see how a caster is literally helpless when I focus on him, and that's the ultimate reward.

There is one in Droknar's Forge (Deldrimor Arena). Up until then all the arenas are random. I am going to play it once i get all my armor infused.

Does anyone know if the Arena in The Ring of Fire is also pre-arranged? or did they take that one out in the last update?

ON-TOPIC: I agree what has been said. Just keep playing the PvP and you will either learn how to compensate for other people or hopefully get a better team. There is a good chance you did nothing wrong.

The ring of fire arena no longer exists and has been folded into the random arenas.

Why is infusing armour relevant for PvP? Last I checked, players can't exactly cast spectral agony or be in general cool like the Mursaat.

Thanks for the info. I guess the Droknar's Arena is the last.

Infusing armor isn't relevent to PvP, as far as i know. I am just concentrating on unlocking runes, capturing elites, completing quests/missions, and getting enough gold together to get upgraded armor. Most of the people i play with are doing the same or haven't gotten as far as Droknar's.

Thing to remember is its not you against anyone else - its team v team. I play a mes-nec myself an it would be useless in 1v1 PvP (unless I drew a caster then it would be soo easy it would be boring).

The scenerio you describe your job is to "stifle" (not damage) the healer. That is make it so he cant heal, then your teamates have a easier time taking out whatever they are attacking.

This "team" oriented PvP design is truly unique to GW and is very rock-paper-sicors oriented. You really just need to figure out whether your the rock, paper, or sicors and then you can better understand why things went wrong. (ie IF your a monk (primary) and you die, it was someone elses fault most likely not something you did wrong (as they are supposed to protect you), etc, etc).
