Pure healers/surviving pvp as main target
Hello everyone,
I recently started playing with the random group pvp and one thing i have noted, which makes sense is that I am one heck of a target. Now, I have actually done well with the groups I have had since I use all heals but the problem is that nobody protects the monk, or very rarely. In these cases how do I stay alive when I have one or more warriors bashing on me. So far I have figured out how to slip my spells with timing through a mesmers hex's and a rangers interrupts but the warrior thing has me befuddled. I am MO/ELE and here is the line I have been using.
Symbol of Wrath (an attempt at making the warrior back up, hoping teamates will come to my aid.
Vigorous Spirit
Dwayna's Kiss
Orisons Healing
Breeze
Rebirth
Divine Boon
Reversal of Fortune
Right now if I come under attack I cast wrath, divine boon and then start self healing. Either one of two things seems to happen. Party memebrs eventually come to my aid, non-persistant warriors give up trying to kill me..I like this, or I die because the persistant warriors are smart enough to know I'll run out of energy at some point and he can use healing signet or some healing spell to offset wrath, which has a long reuse timer.
The worst so far has been two warrior teams....go down really fast then. Would like to make them reconsider or at least give me some more time.
Any suggestions/ideas would be great.
I am close to ascension but have yet to go out and seek out the Elite skills and others that I haven't found through quests. Even so, post whatever comes to mind. I prefer to keep the healing abilities of this character but if you have a setup that would be more efficient and able to keep me alive longer so that I can heal longer, that would be great.
I have thought of going with Earth and plopping a ward against melee in there.
P>S> I haven't listed cast cost and re-use timer since I am assuming you will know what your talking about.

I would go with ice skills for slowing. What you really need is a team that can focus on one target but take the time to slow, weaken and whatever the warriors going after you. And at the level of arena I don't think you'll find a team like that. I'm Mo/Me and I used Imagined burden and just kept running.

Just throw on your buffs and spam reversal of fortune. Aside from backfire, there's no skill in the game that can counter it, and with a high divine favor and your normal buffs on (breeze, vigorous), you can tank 3 charging rhinos at once. While they're trying to kill you, hopefully your team will be able to beat us before you run out of energy. Also, to be on the safe side you may want to grab a nice elite skill from the pregenerated builds. Shield of Regen or Healing hands are both nice and further enforce the overall invulnerability of reversal of fortune.

Unfortunately, playing a monk in the arena is all about surviving. The strategies used are very trivial; everyone goes for the monk. The warrior is no longer the tank, you are. To a certain degree, this is also the case in HoH. If there are 2 or 3 monks still alive, noone's gonna die, so most of the enemy team will go after you. So what it comes down to is, the longer you stay alive, and you will be taking a lot of heat, the more time your team has to kill the opposing team and the more successful you are. Your biggest problems will be mesmers and warriors.
Having played both a mesmer and monk, I know how effective and annoying mesmers can be, so they are probably your greatest threat. Obviously, a good warrior is much more common than a good mesmer, but you always have to prepare yourself. Stuff like spell breaker and obsidian flesh (ele) will completely protect you from mesmers and any other spells, while hex removal spells are key to surviving the rest of the time. As for warriors, blindness completely takes them out of the game, so bring something that blinds them, or wards/stances that let you dodge damage. Damage prevention is a far better than healing. Also, take into account that you will always be low on energy any /Me build will be sucking you dry of your energy, and adjust accordingly.

I went into PvP knowing I was gonna be target numero uno when I started just from all my pve experiences of mobs beating me down first. Anyways, I tried taking my mission build for when mobs always just jumped straight on me. This is what I took
1.) Word of Healing {Elite} (target other) 5 energy
2.) Orison of Healing (target self or other) 5 energy
3.) Signet of Devotion (target self or other) 0 energy
4.) Healing Breeze (HoT can target self or other) 10 energy
5.) Blessed Signet (for every enchantment, you gain 3 energy) gain 9-12 energy
6.) Live vicariously (Enchantment, while maintained, you gain 12 life when target hits)
7.) Vital Blessing (target gains 60 of total life while enchantment is maintained)
8.) Vengeance (target is ressurected for 30 seconds with full life and energy) 10 energy
I start off the battles with 3 live vicariouslys on my tanks/rangers then on my elementalists. I am thinking about switching out Vital Blessing with some energy gaining enchantments, but I usually cast that on myself if I am the only monk, and on the other monk if there is one. When the enemy finally targets me, I just spam orison and signet of devotion along with healing breeze. With another monk, it's pretty hard to kill me with 3 sets of 13 healing coming in every swing and a breeze on me. It can happen, though. Hardest thing is to keep remembering to hit blessed signet cause you will run out of energy.
